Merlin Madness - Just Jane - Engine Music - Avro Lancaster
Description :
For all those nuts who think the only music is Merlin music. I hope it placates your insatiable appetite and stops you pestering me for more. The engines on this Lancaster were often fitted to Spitfires, Hurricanes and numerous other aircraft during WWII.

I think that starboard inner carried the generator, so gets started first.
Once started, the magneto ignition systems were self-contained, and I think there were two magneto systems to each motor.
They must use a frightening amount of gasoline.
Good roar at 7.33.
Wow i am a petrol head. That is the most awesome sound in the world thanks
I imagine it takes a fair bit of juice to crank one of those, holding down all the starters would probably just sap the batteries...these didn't have generators did they?
12 ibs of boost
Ive Been There, Went For My Grandads Memorial Day, Very Very Entertaining, Great Plane, And Its So Loud.
Ive been to East Kirkby many times to see "Just Jane" taxing around the airfield, it just makes you think what amazing constructions Britain can make!
I don't know- systems-wise the only limitation on multiple-engine starting that I could think of would be sapping all the juice out of the starting batteries, either from the usually-used external ground supply or the aircraft's own batteries; apart from that, I see no reason at all why multiple engines couldn't be started up together. But, that's just not how it's done, anyway!
To follow on from some comments here- Lancasters were certainly never scrambled!!!
Also, the mags are already on when the engines are turned- it's fuel on, ignition on, press the starter, and wait for the engine to catch.
Is it/was it possible to start 2 or more engines simultaneously. Could that have been done?
MAGNIFICENT! I was a little disappointed, as I was waiting for her to take off. Thank you for the music! Rolls-Royce Merlin reigns supreme!
