Once hunted to the brink of extinction, the gray whale has made an amazing comeback in the last 80 years. But in 1999 and 2000, these unique creatures, which live along the West Coast of North America, began to mysteriously disappear by the thousands. Their population dropped by one-third.
In The Gray Whale Obstacle Course, Jean-Michel Cousteau and the Ocean Adventures team search for clues about this resilient, yet threatened species to gain a better understanding of the increasing challenges, both natural and man-made, that gray whales face along the way.

Aloha...I'm Donnie MacGowan...I live on the island of Hawaii, in the County of Hawaii in the state of Hawaii...I love living in Hawaii, full of wonderful, amazing and fabulous things. For instance today, I saw a Humpback whale being born.
Winter and early spring in Hawaii are especially magical times—well, more magical even than usual in Hawaii. Starting about mid-November and lasting through April, Humpback whales visit our islands. From as far as way as Alaska and as near as California, the Humpies, as we call them, arrive to breed and, cows that bred last year, give birth this year.
An adult humpback weighs approximately one ton per foot, up to 90,000 pounds and can grow over 50 feet in length. Females are slightly larger than the males. Calves range from 10-16 feet in length at birth and weigh an average of 3000 pounds. Marine biologists believe that humpbacks live between 40-60 years.
And every year they come to visit me in my home.
On the West Hawaii coastline there is a place, and no, I'm not going to tell you where, where humpies are known to go to give birth—it's a deep, protected cove quite near the highway. My hiking buddy and I were returning from a trip into the Kohala Mountains when we noticed several cars pulled off the road at a spot overlooking this cove. And there they were...mother and baby, still attached by umbilical cord. The video, shot hastily and without a tripod is not great, but you can see the baby playing on it's back, nuzzling it's mothers teats and just generally reveling at being free and in the marvelous ocean.
I love being in the ocean...it is my place of peace, calm and meditation. But just try to imagine the joy that this baby whale felt, being born into that vast, magical and beautiful realm. Aloha baby humpy...travel safely and come back to us next year.

In addition to our rescue expertise the Whale Rescue Team is a advocate for marine wildlife networking with organizations throughout the world. The beluga whale is a small, toothed whale that is white as an adult.
Beluga means "white one" in Russian.
It is estimated that there are about 40,000 to 80,000 beluga whales world wide. St. Lawrence, Cook Inlet, and Alaskan belugas are classified as endangered. Belugas are threatened by pollution (DDT, PCB's, etc.) in estuary waters that they frequent and breed in.
They have the most sophisticated bio sonar of all.

Allya the Beluga whale at an aquarium in western Japan has learned to blow bubble rings. In the wild, some dolphins and whales blow bubble rings by inhaling air through their blowholes and releasing it through their mouths underwater. But thanks to scuba diving equipment, Allya can do it anytime.
Allya clearly loves interacting with her audience. She aims the bubbles at spectators as they peer in through the glass.

The nation of Japan once again is the target of self-appointed elitist protestors who are nothing but round eye racist. There was a 1986 treaty signed by many nations limiting or placing a moratorium on whale hunting. Japan is accused of breaking that useless treaty to feed their people. Food for humans is paramount to any treaty aimed to limit the food of any nation. A ship (Arctic Sunrise) belonging to the radical conservationist group, Greenpeace rams into the Japanese whaling vessel (Nisshin Maru) and then blames the Japanese ship. Also the international insurance company located in London, the United Kingdom, Lloyds of London, accused the Japanese of ramming the Greenpeace ship. Seeing the photographs and video, clearly demonstrate that the Greenpeace ship here was the aggressor in purposely ramming the Japanese ship. However world opinion sided with Greenpeace. Proving once again the round eyes are the racist selecting an Asian nation to harass. Many nations have broken the treaty banning whale hunts, yet the leftist and socialist of the world select to condemn Japan. Is it because the Japanese are Asian? Is it because the Japanese have a strong democracy? It is because the Japanese are dedicated capitalist? Yep to all three, because the protesters are round eye racist socialist. |
