The Wright brothers and sister were geniuses who not only invented the first airplane, but also the world's first piloted glider, largest glider, wind tunnel, first successful, powered and piloted flight, first fatal air crash, first airplane sold to the government, first airplane to cross the US, first airplane with a machine gun, aviation, aeronautics.
They were Wilbur, Orville, and Katharine Wright.
They were Dayton Ohio bicycle mechanics, who decided to invent flight. They began from almost nothing and invented aviation. They show the spectacular ability of the human intellect and should be considered among the world's greatest geniuses among Newton and Einstein.
Their invention evolved into aviation, aeronautics, rockets, submarines, and spaceflight. The aerospace business is the world's largest industry. They changed the way people think - now in 3 dimensions, rather than 2.
Video shows the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base museum, the Air and Space Center, on the site where the Wrights developed flight. |

Well, this is an exact replica of 14 bis. The First airplane constructed, by Santos Dumont, an Brazilian inventor. The North American´s usually try to say about the creation of airplane of this is an creation of Brother Wright. It´s a lie! These video can prove this. The replica really fly! Santos Dumont flyes in front of many people. The Wright Brothers no. Also, the Wright´s brothers plane are launched by an catapult. The 14 Bis of Santos Dumont flyes without any other method than motor. The plane is exactly like the planes are today. |

This video is from about ten years ago. They told me this airplane you see is kit-built or homemade. It was very neat-o in my humble opinion. I don't know the pilot or builder's names. It was a one-seat airplane but I have edited in some footage of passenger flying. This was at a very small grass airfield in Podunkburg, Pennsyltuckee. Very nice folks there, I must say. |

This video is similar to SERPENT MOUND WORLD'S LARGEST MYSTERY EFFIGY CRATER at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZZqVt5ffuE
Serpent Mound, the world's largest effigy, is one of the world's greatest mysteries. It is a quarter-mile long serpent carved into the earth, and the world's largest prehistoric animal effigy (image). It is located on the bank of a monster meteorite crater. It is also the site of the nations first national park.
It might be called America's Stonehenge or great pyramid. It is a world's first for many reasons:
1. It is the largest animal image or effigy earthwork in the world (1,330 ft.).
2. It is one of world's greatest mysteries, its makers and purpose are unknown; it does not contain burials.
3. It was made to be seen from above, rather than ground level. It is more awesome that the Nazca lines of Peru, because the land had to be cleared before it was made.
4. It is astronomically aligned. Its head is aligned with the summer solstice, its coils with the winter solstice and the autumnal and spring equinox sunrises, and with the summer solstice sunrise.
5. It is carved into the side of one of world's largest meteorite craters (~ 5 mi. diameter), which is one of only a few such places in the US. The meteoric impact occurred in the Permian Period about 248 to 286 million years ago.
6. It is possible that the object that slamed into the earth to make the crater was an asteroid.
7. It was the first State Park in the US.
8. It is mysterious, because no meteorite was ever found in the area.
9. It is one of the most famous of all historic sites, one of the strangest, and listed by many sources as one of the wonders of the ancient world. It is a candidate for the United Nation's World Heritage list.
10. It is at the convergence of three distinct soil types.
11. It is near the area where flight was first developed (the Wright brothers in Dayton) and the birth place of Neil Armstrong (first person on another world) and John Glenn. It is
12. Underground caves exist in the area.
13. Many mysterious anomalies exist in the region, e.g., it lies at the center of three major physiographic regions. It lies between the unglaciated Appalachian plateau and glaciated Till Plain areas. It commands a view of the Appalachian Mountain foothills to the east and the plains to the west.
14. It is located in a region of three soil types.
15. It is near the intersection of three geological fault lines.
16. It is in the area of unusual magnetic activity.
17. The area is one of gravity anomalies and high concentrations of uranium near the surface. It contains iridium at levels up to 10 times the that typical of the Earth's crust.
18. It also contains soot that may come from scorched limestone, deormed sand grains, and fractured quatz.
19. Shatter cones like those found in Nevada at nuclear weapon test sites exist throughout the structure.
Its head overlooks a the brim of a gigantic meteorite crater, it has a body composed of 7 coils, and a triple coiled tail. Its head contains a giant oval, variously thought to be an egg or the sun. It is unknown when it was built, or by who, but thought to be at least a thousand years old or maybe much older.
It is one of four places in and around Dayton associated with the Wright Brothers, who built the world's first airplane and pioneered human flight. The Serpent Mound is also on the Interior Department's list of more than 40 additional earthworks left by Native American cultures, who made gigantic structures in precise geometric shapes more than 1,000 years ago.
About the ancient structures in Ohio, the Interior Department noted: "These are among the largest earthworks in the world that are not fortifications or defensive structures, and they contain extensive deposits of finely crafted artifacts. Their scale is imposing by any standard: the Great Pyramid of Cheops would have fit inside the Wright Earthworks; four structures the size of the Colosseum of Rome would fit in the Octagon; and the circle of monoliths at Stonehenge would fit into one of the small auxiliary earthwork circles adjacent to the Octagon."
Although places such as the Nazca lines of Peru are better known, the earthworks in the Eastern United states were much more difficult to build because the tress and vegetation had to be removed and the earth flattened.
The geological structure of the crater has been described as a central hub surrounded by two concentric rings. The outer ring is displaced downwards. A variety of outcroppings are found in the crater. The outer ring, the highest part of the structure risees to an elevation of 1120 feet. It has been described as a large upturned and broken mass. And a huge region that had sunk down several hundred feet, producing dislocations, faults, and upturning layers of rocks. However it is so deeply eroded and buried that little evidence exists on the surface. |

aviation escapism from ww1 & before
Aviation refers to all activities involving the operation of heavier-than-air aircraft, machines designed for atmospheric flight. The term also describes the organizations and regulatory bodies as well as the personnel related with the operation of aircraft and the industries involved in airplane manufacture, development, and design.
On December 17, 1903, the Wright brothers flew the first fully-documented, successful powered, heavier-than-air flight, though their aircraft was impractical to fly for more than a short distance because of control problems. The widespread adoption of ailerons made aircraft much easier to manage, and only a decade later, at the start of World War I, heavier-than-air powered aircraft had become practical for reconnaissance, artillery spotting, and even attacks against ground positions. |

American test pilot Chuck Yeager flew a plane through the sound barrier on October 14th, 1947. Some say only the Wright brothers -- Orville and Wilbur -- can claim a more significant achievement in the history of flight. At the time, Britain and Germany also were trying to develop a plane that could break the sound barrier, but the United States soon won out with its X-1.
It was more rocket than plane, developed specifically to fly through the shock waves of the sound barrier, with Yeager as pilot. "About half of the engineers gave us no chance at all of ever successfully flying beyond the speed of sound. They said it's a so-called barrier and the airplane would go out of control or disintegrate, but I didn't look at it that way."
Yeager said he had confidence in the craft. He named it "Glamorous Glennis" for his wife, and described its bullet-shaped body as cozy. "Your knees were just about equal with your shoulders so you could pull a lot of Gs [extreme pull of gravity] without blacking out. It didn't have a prop on it. It didn't have a jet engine. It was just strictly a rocket and it was real slick to fly.".
To save fuel the X-1 was lifted by a modified B-29 bomber, then dropped and powered by four liquid oxygen rockets.
As Yeager's X-1 approached aviation history and Mach 1 [the speed of sound], the plane began buffeting violently. Continuing to accelerate it smoothed out, and for the first time a sonic boom filled the atmosphere.
The success was quickly followed by an entire series of aircraft flying faster and higher than ever before. There were disasters and near disasters.
The X-15 eventually flew to the edge of space at four, five and six times the speed of sound. Yeager went on to direct the Space School at Edward's Air Force Base. And ten years ago, the man who first broke the sound barrier did it once again for his last time. Yeager made one last flight faster than the speed of sound in 1997 on the 50th anniversary of his historic flight |

A song by Luis Barros, from his 2002 album""Canciones para levantar el ánimo".
Accordeon and flute: Elja Steinert
Cruzando el Canal de la Mancha, en su monoplano volaba Blériot;
aurrevoir en Calais le gritaban y welcome in Dover los de la rubia Albión;
pajarito y sí que volaba el alado pierrot de París,
el francés que vivía en las nubes con sus plumas de vaudeville;
salud, che Blériot, je vous aîme y beba ese aire que es todo de usted,
salud por los aventureros que se fueron al cielo y volvieron después.
En su autogiro montado, don Juan de la Cierva enciende el motor;
y se eleva el coloso murciano como un héroe pagano en el cielo español;
pajarito y sí que volaba el señor de polaina y bombín,
con sus hélices de enamorado a la busca de un nuevo confín;
al abismo de los imposibles, Santa Rita perdónanos;
aleluya, los sueños se cumplen, quién es el imbécil que dijo que no,
atención que los sueños despegan y se van al espacio en un cuatrimotor;
pajarito y volaba,
pajarito y voló.
Letra y música: Luis Barros
And indeed they flew
Over the English Channel flew Blériot;
in Calais they saw him off with an "aurrevoir"
and those in Albion greeted him with a "welcome in Dover";
and indeed he flew, the winged Pierrot from Paris,
the Frenchman who dwelled in the clouds with his vaudeville feathers;
go, go, Blériot, "je vous aime", and breathe all that air 'cause it belongs to you,
long live the adventurers who went up to the skies and then managed to return.
Juan de la Cierva gets on his autogiro and turns on the engine;
and up in the air he goes like a pagan hero in the Spanish skies;
and indeed he flew, the gentleman with his buttoned shoes and bowler hat,
a man with propellers in search of a new horizon;
go, go, Juan de la Cierva, up there is the sky that God took away from us,
bring it back to mankind, Juan, and we'll stay right here waiting for you.
Leonardo in the Renaissance,
the Wright brothers in Kitty Hawk
and little Johnny with his kite,
just like Icharus, they all want to conquer the sun.
And indeed we fly, with all those crazy men behind us,
pushing us on into the abyss of the impossible,
Saint Rita, please forgive us;
hallelujah, dreams do come true, who said they didn't?,
your attention please, dreams are about to take off
and will be flying into the skies on a four-engine airplane;
and indeed they fly,
and indeed they flew.

Qantas Airways Limited is the national airline of Australia. The name was originally "QANTAS", an acronym for "Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services". The airline is based in Sydney, with its main hub at Kingsford Smith International Airport, and is Australia's largest airline. It is the world's third oldest continuously running airline, after Dutch-based KLM , which was founded in October 1919, and Colombian-based Avianca which was founded in December 1919. In 2007, Qantas was voted the fifth best airline in the world by research consultancy Skytrax, a drop from the second position it held in 2005 and 2006.[2] Qantas has the 17th largest fleet in the world with 228 aircraft.
The Boeing 747, sometimes nicknamed the "Jumbo Jet",[4][5] is among the world's most recognizable aircraft,[6] and was the first wide-body commercial airliner ever produced. Manufactured by Boeing's Commercial Airplane unit in the United States, the original version of the 747 was two and a half times the size of the Boeing 707,[7] one of the common large commercial aircraft of the 1960s. The aircraft is so large that its wingspan is longer than the length of the Wright Brothers' first flight. First flown commercially in 1970, it held the passenger capacity record for 37 years, until it was surpassed by the Airbus A380.
The four-engine 747 uses a double deck configuration for part of its length. It is available in passenger, freighter and other versions. The 747's hump created by the upper deck allows for a front cargo door on freighter versions, and serves as additional seating in most versions. The 747-400, the latest version in service, is among the fastest airliners in service with a high-subsonic cruise speed of Mach 0.85 (567 mph or 913 km/h). It has an intercontinental range of 7,260 nautical miles (8,350 mi or 13,450 km).[8] The 747-400 passenger version can accommodate 416 passengers in a typical three-class layout or 524 passengers in a typical two-class layout.
The 747 was expected to become obsolete after 400 were sold because of the development of supersonic airliners,[9] but it has outlived many of its critics' expectations, and production passed the 1,000 mark in 1993. As of December 2007, 1,396 aircraft had been built, with 125 more in various configurations on order.[10] The latest version of the aircraft, the 747-8, is scheduled to enter service in 2009 |

So far, nearly every modern military idea has a German WW2 antecedant.
http://www.combatreform.com/fries.htm
Meaning usually the Germans--not Americans--thought of it first. The M113 Gavin fully enclosed, air-transportable, amphibious, tracked APC was truly an American first. The fixed-wing airplane by the Wright Brothers was an USA first. "First" is certainly not the province of the moronic USMC who brag that they don't think and whine that they don't have money when Congress pours billions into their Oprah Winfrey-style victim racket. They copied shallow-draft landing craft from the Japanese. Civilian Donald Roebeling came up with the open-top, amphibious tractor (AMTRACK). So much for gyrene innovation. A Polish Lieutenant created the first military VTOL helicopter for static observation in WW1. The Germans were the first to field moving combat VTOL helicopters, followed by the U.S. Army in WW2. The USMC didn't even get involved until their packing gyrenes-in-vulnerable-surface-ships racket got threatened after folks began putting 2+2 after pondering the nuclear bombs dropped on Japan in WW2 and later nuclear bomb tests against clusterfucks of surface ships. And even then it was the U.S. Army to develop a coherent air mobility force structure using helicopter troop ships, gunships and scout aircraft with the 11th Air Assault Testbed Division in the 1960s. The U.S. Army had to create the helicopter gunship and escort marine "slick" troop transports in Vietnam so they wouldn't get shot up in flames.

Helicopters do NOT make surface ships packed with men less vulnerable and during the 1962 Cuban missile crisis Soviet submarines were one push-button away from incinerating thousands of marines and Sailors with nuclear torpedoes.
LTG Gavin in 1958 warned that in the guided missile age American amphibious forces had better go underwater with submarines

or else they will be incinerated:

The only surface ships that can survive in the guided missile age we live in are ones over 10, 000 tons--30, 000 tons+ heavy cruisers and 40, 000+ battleships that can actually absorb some missile strikes. If the USMC wanted to put their money where their baraggadocio mouths are, they'd cough up 4, 000 man slots from their bureaucratic foot-slogger victim empire to man two Iowa class battleships to deliver an armored amphibious landing force that could actually not get sunk so it can deliver men alive across-the-beach:

The V-22 is the latest manifestation of the prop-up-the-surface-ship-sardines-Iwo Jima-with-VTOL-helicopters-lie and even looks like a German FA-223 when in hover mode except the latter has real large rotors so vortex ringstate doesn't cause a lift imbalance; a fatal V-22 flaw of its too small rotors that cannot be solved.

"I found some more awesome German chopper footage here:

Have a look at the Fa 223 airlifting a full Fieseler Storch [STOL fixed-wing observation aircraft] off the ground. Must be 1944. They are also recovering a downed Fw190 and airlifting a Kübelwagon! [unarmored scout car] Amazing stuff.
There's some footage of a captured Fl 282 in U.S. markings flying backwards and even hands off at low altitude."
Thanks to Grommo, we can see the Germans who were the first to air-mech tracked assault guns into North Africa in 1942 by their Me-323 Gigants were already thinking about using helicopters to air-mech ground vehicles!
