Malaysian Shahimi Abdul Hamid planted 51 kisses in 3 minutes and one second on the face of a reluctant 15-foot long venomous king cobra to claim a new world cobra kissing record. The 33-year-old reptile expert thrilled hundreds of holiday makers who had waited patiently for more than 2 hours for the short but life threatening performance.
It was an over-achievement of sort for Shahimi whose original plan was to kiss the newly caught wild cobra 15 times in 10 minutes without any protective gear to overtake the record of 11 kisses by American snake handler Gordon Cates in September 1999. "With 51 times (kisses) in 3 minutes, I feel it's enough, not necessary for me to continue on for 10 minutes".

I did this in south Thailand , at the snake farm of my friends .You can see me playing with snakes, good training for reflex . the bigger is a king cobra (about 5 meters).
One of my friends who did the shows, lost his life on this ring . He was bitten by a big king cobra during the show. A tourist came too close to take a photo, then the snake jumped on him . My friend was faster, he saved the tourist but was bitten. He died in a few minutes, his wedding was planned 10 days later . the hospital is about 20 mn away by car, when you're bitten by a king cobra you have only 2 to 15 minutes to say goodbye. This episode tells of the King Cobra, which Stevens goes to India to look for. On his way he finds a Indian Python, which he calls an "Indian Tiger Python", a Russell's Viper, an Indian Cobra, and many others. Just when he was about to give up he sees a large cobra in the distance and then gets closer to find it to be 14 feet long [1]. He then says that he wants to touch the back of the snake's head, which he does often with cobras. He says he can often let the cobra concentrate on one hand while touching the back of the snake's head. He does touch the snake's head, but he hadn't fooled the snake, because it knew exactly what he was going to do. It actually saw his hand coming down and lowered its head. But fortunately, Stevens manages to touch its head. He repeated this several times with the same snake as shown in a picture from his book The Last Snakeman. There is some questioning which event came first because in Most Striking Moments he seems to show the head-touching after taking pictures.
Although the photographs used during the episodes were actually video footage stills, Steven's actual photo of the snake has been used in the Guinness World Records of 2008.
Austin Stevens is a South-African wildlife photographer who is on assignement to find and photograph snakes. During each episode, he searches extensively for a certain snake, and also encounters other snakes along the way. Each episode ends with him finding his snake and photographing. |

Thailand is home to many friendly snakes. At the Red Cross Research Institute in Bangkok, there is a snake farm where venomous snakes are kept for the purpose of producing anti-venom. For a couple buck, you can get up close and personal with a variety of poisonous snakes, including the Common Cobra, King Cobra, and an assortment of Kraits and Pit Vipers. You'll watch the handlers "play" with the snakes, and then feed them and milk them for venom. A couple of the handlers have wicked-looking scars, thanks to the snakes, as well as some witty anecdotes that accompany the scars. It is interesting, and somewhat educational. If you go, I recommend that you sit in the front row. |

A child is set to play with a real King Cobra. High birthrate...high death toll...wonder why...but for all you out there...dont worry. Obviously the Cobra has its mouth tied and had its fangs pulled out. Cannot use venom or teeth..duh. But this just means the snake dies of starvation. Then the families do it all over again.
