We converted an ordinary projector screen into an low cost interactive screen using a webcam.
This is one of the several applications from our "Interactive Computer Interface using Webcam" proejct. Here's some of the demos used during our project presentation to illustrate our prototype.
The projector and screen are ordinary ones like any others in our labs. A webcam is used to detect the presence of any lightspot on the projector screen. A program running on the computer then finds out the position of the lightspot on the screen and uses this info to control the computer's mouse cursor.
As shown in the video, our prototype is able to work with the following light pointers:
1. any ordinary laser pointer (i.e. red light spot)
2. an ordinary pocket torchlight (penlight)
3. specially built infrared lightpen
4. infrared presentation pointer/stick.
Our prototype is able to operate most (not all!) standard WinXP applications and several video games (more info on other videos).

High Quality viewing with a 70 inch horizontal screen Screen in video is 4 feet X 5 Feet(capable of 100 inch +, decent quality with dark room) DVDs/Video played from my laptop using kmplayer (video is rotated and shrunk using kmplayer settings. This is because the 17 " screen is bigger than the overhead display area and is also rotated 90 degrees to lie/fit properly on the overhead. The overhead is connected via my laptops VGA and is displayed as my second monitor with XP extended onto it. I then used a black background wallpaper so the video blends nicely onto the screen. The clear box you see next to the overhead is the LCD power supply and video connections. I mounted it vertically (in the box) so the cable fits right next to the LCD. Check out the links for a more detailed how to.
Total Price:$120....hours spent ~ 24 hours construction time, and a somewhat adept computer skill level.

Texas Instruments announced production availability of a DLP Pico chipset, which includes an imaging chip and a processor to enable a new class of handheld and mobile projection products at MWC 2008.
These chips which will be available in the second half of 2008, deliver functionality that will improve the visual display experience from handheld devices and transform their use from tiny screen viewing to big picture viewing allowing others to share in the video and graphics experience.
The DLP Pico chipset will consist of the DLP Pico chip and the DLP Pico processor (DDP1500 and DDP1505). The DPP1500 is targeted at embedded applications for handheld devices, while the DDP1505 will serve the standalone handheld companion market. The DLP Pico solution delivers an aperture ratio of more than 92 percent, tens of thousands of pixel elements, switching speeds of less than 20 microseconds and DarkChip native contrast ratio process technology.

Conventional laser projectors are limited. At most, they can scan around 60 degrees at any one time. And while some projectors are on a swivel "yoke" base so they can aim anywhere in a room, they are still limited to projecting in a single direction at a time.

This is a homemade video that demonstrates one of my videogaming setups.
I have an XBOX 360 hooked up to an LCD WideScreen Video Projector and displayed onto a 12' Foot movie screen out in my garage!
MODEL: EPSON POWERLITE HOME 10+
It accepts up to 1080i input and displays at 480p WideScreen from any video source even a PC.
I got the projector brand new on eBAY for only $599, and the movie screen brand new for only $99 bucks.
Do a web search and you'll find them even cheaper than that.
It demonstrates very impressive HD graphics and sounds for a cheap price!
Just thought I would share my setup and answer any questions if people wanted to do the same.
Please, serious questions only!
Keep in mind that I filmed this myself while playing, so it's not the best demonstration, but you will get the idea.

Hitachi will release the world's first front projector CP-A100 which utilizes the free-from surface lens mirror to project the shortest distance from the wall.
The 80" inch projector display is set up at only 63cm (including the projector) away from the wall. The distance between the projector and the wall was reduced to about a quarter compared to previous models. The shortened distance enables the display to extend the freedom of set up especially because of its light weight (5.8kg) and compact design.
The projector can display wide screen even in a small confined space. It will be used in a wide variety of areas for education, conference, amusement, billboards and digital signs.
The CP-A100J is equipped with the wired LAN network and users can monitor or control the projector via the network.
