Chia is a 1-2 year old, spayed female, German Shepherd/Rottweiler mix. Chia came into the shelter this past fall; she was underweight, apparently a recent mom, and also had porcupine quills, ouch! Since coming into the shelter Chia has filled out nicely and has shown to be a very friendly dog. She absolutely LOVES everyone she meets. Chia is also very playful and is good with older kids. Chia may be ok with another less dominant dog; however, she is not good with cats. Chia even likes to play in the water and swim in the kiddie pools which are out in the play yards for the summer. Oh yeah, Chia is housebroken too! |

Red Wolves (in video): Visit our two young wolves as they enjoy their new habitat. As part of the Species Survival Plan for Red Wolves in North America, these two brothers will stay at the Mill Mountain zoo until they mature and are paired with a mate for breeding.
Black Hornbills: Perhaps the only breeding pair of this species in North American Zoos, we are very excited to be able to include them in our bird collection.
Baby Porcupines: The stork made an early visit to us with the birth of two Indian Crested porcupines. The babies, born March 5, will make their public debut on Saturday, April 12 (weather permitting). Baby porcupines called porcupets are born with soft quills that harden upon exposure to the air.
