The train ride from Oslo to Bergen takes a full day. It passes through mountains that have snow, even in the summer.

ABOUT THE POLAR SHIP "F R A M"
Fram ("Forward") is a ship that was used in expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctic regions by the Norwegian explorers Fridtjof Nansen, Otto Sverdrup, Oscar Wisting, and Roald Amundsen between 1893 and 1912. Fram was probably the strongest wooden ship ever built. It was designed by the Norwegian shipwright Colin Archer for Fridtjof Nansen's 1893 Arctic expedition in which Fram was supposed to freeze into the Arctic ice sheet and float with it over the North Pole.
Fram is said to be the wooden ship to have sailed farthest north and farthest south. Fram is currently preserved in whole at the Fram Museum in Oslo, Norway.

Vigeland Sculpture Park is located west of the city centre of Oslo. Probably the most famous park in Norway, it was created by sculptor Gustav Vigeland between the years 1907 and 1942.
The park has as its theme what could be called the "Human Condition." Most of the statues depict people engaging in various typically human pursuits, such as running, wrestling, dancing, hugging, holding hands and so on.
One of the main attractions to the park is The Monolith, (Monolitten). At over 14 meters tall, the column is covered with entwined human bodies and is carved out of a single block of stone.

OTT-DVD-140 - The fascinating journey on the famous Bergensbanen begins in Norway's capital city of Oslo which contains a large variety of interesting historic buildings that are well worth a visit. Indeed, the city originated in the middle of the eleventh century during the reign of King Harald Hårdråde.
For almost a century Norway was part of Sweden and in 1905 a referendum put an end to its unpopular union and Norway achieved its Independence.
The construction of the railroad posed a major challenge for the engineers of that time and its construction took many years. The first section of today's Bergensbanen was completed in 1883 and extended from Bergen to Voss.
On its journey to Bergen the Bergensbanen travels across the highest plateau in Europe, the eight thousand square kilometre, Hardangervidda.
At one thousand two hundred and twenty two metres above sea level Finse is the Bergensbanen's highest station and was opened in 1909 when Norway's King Hakon was one of the first passengers to travel on the new railroad.
The journey on the Bergensbanen not only travels through one of the most charming and natural landscapes in Europe it also features the history of Norway: a unique adventure indeed! |

This starts with a scene from the Lufthansa flight from Singapore to Frankfurt, then a norwegian funeral song is sung from a friends friends service, there are also flash-backs to scenes of the downtown skyscrapers of Auckland NZ from a Ferry going to Devonport, and a small scene of rain in Ivalo, Northern Finland, in between I must thank Jamil (bearded man) for his hospitality, here pictured with his son and german exchange student on a boat in a boat on a lake near Nottoden, Norway, and also Sindre (man playing music) for the great memories of playing original music one night every week in "One from the Heart" at Hemingway Cafe central Oslo. There are some rather sacriligious young norwegian band members (it's always the drummers fault) and ending with my dear Icelandic friend Baldur Braggison in funny hat.
