Such interesting buildings. Such a diversity of styles. The graffiti is most unfortunate, and the "from the bus" footage is not quite National Geographic style, but you get the flavor of this classic Italian town. Perillo's 48 passenger bus did negotiate these little streets with the deftness of a Smart Car, thanks to our driver Lorenzo.

From the Perillo website: "The Milan Duomo is the third largest church in the world and can seat 40,000 worshippers. First, a statue dedicated to Leonardo and four of his students on the backside of Milan's Galleria. Crossing the street in Italy was part of the fun of our Perillo Familia adventure. All of the best opera singers for generations have played the famous La Scala Opera House in Milan, Italy. The history of La Scala, also know as the behind-the-scenes stories, was material for many a hi-class soap opera. The main seating are of La Scala was not lit well enough to properly show the two story high Royal Box Seating. |

Smurfs around the world: Italy.
This time is the tourist smurf who decides to travel around Europe. He goes first to Milan. There he visits the Duomo, the Castello Sforzesco, Santa Maria delle Grazie, where he can see da Vinci's Last Supper, and plenty of other places. He finally goes to the Opera La Scala to see Jenufa by Leos Janacek. Then he goes to Venice, there he visits Piazza San Marco, il Palazzo Ducale, il Ponte di Rialto and many other places. He finally takes a plane back to his Mushroom Village.

Italy travel: Florence. Church of Florence named Santa Maria del Fiore. Wish we would have had time to climb to the top. Florence is such an action packed and walkable city. We did get a spectacular overview from Perillo Tours, but Florence would be worth a week's trip all by itself. Race for third place in the 'world's largest cathedrals' competition? That competition kept the construction of this cathedral going for decades. "Prosperous Florence wanted to surpass in grandeur its Tuscan rivals, Pisa and Siena, with a yet more magnificent church, grander in size and more richly adorned. This cathedral was, as a result, the largest in Europe when completed, with room for 30,000 people. It is now only exceeded in size by Saint Paul's Cathedral in London, the Seville Cathedral , and the Milan Cathedral." - Wikipedia.

According to the Perillo website, this is Day 1, when we depart the USA. "Boarding our overnight flight, we're off on the adventure of a lifetime." This is one of those rare times when the reality lives up to the hype! In this video, we see two starkly contrasting but equally sublime sights: the New York City skyline of Manhattan, with great footage of the Empire State Building all lit up; and the magnificent snow capped peaks of the French Alps, all on our way to arrival in Milan, Italy.

Como is situated at the southwest tip of the deepest lake in Europe, and those charming Italian villas were best seen from an optional boat trip. Our family opted to walk around this extremely very old world town for the two hours we had in Como. For that reason, there's not too much footage of our entire group, the Perillo "Familia" that we became. Odd trees, beautiful villas, Palace Hotel, trolley terminal stop.
