young lion cub, Simba, struggles to find his place in nature's "circle of life" and follow in the regal paw prints of his father, the great King Mufasa, after his father is killed by his treacherous uncle, Scar. Scar convinces Simba that he is responsible for his father's death and urges him to run far away from the Pride Lands and never return. A frightened and guilt-stricken Simba flees into exile, where he is befriended by a wacky but warm-hearted warthog, Pumbaa, and his freewheeling meerkat companion, Timon. Simba adopts their "hakuna matata" (no worries) attitude toward life, living on a diet of bugs and taking things one day at a time as Simba matures into a young adult. When his childhood friend, Nala, arrives on the scene, he is persuaded to return to the Pride Lands, which have fallen into hard times under Scar's reign, and take his rightful place as king. The wise shaman baboon, Rafiki, convinces Simba that his father's spirit lives on in him and that he must accept his responsibility, and when he returns, he manages to defeat Scar and an army of hyenas to become the Lion King.
The project originally began a number of years earlier under the title "King of the Jungle." When production began, an artistic team traveled to Africa to search for ways to best present the African settings in the film, and the animators studied actual live lions and other animals that were brought to the Studio.
Computer-generated imagery was used to create the dramatic wildebeest stampede, a visual highlight in the film and a new level of sophistication for the art form.
"The Lion King" became one of the highest-grossing films of all time and is the highest-grossing film in Disney history. The original release was interrupted when kids went back to school in September, to return on November 18, 1994, this time paired with a three-minute preview of "Pocahontas." Released on video in 1995.

Also, we tell you which five applications you must install first before your new system touches the Internet, Yoshi reveals his trick Xbox/Playstation 2 combo console, and the animators behind NBC's "Father of the Pride" show us how they churn our their weekly CG television series.

Delayed by an important business meeting, Kevin and Alex raced onto the set a tad late -- Kevin's arrival apparently delayed even further by the air drag caused by a strip of TP adhering to his heel. Chagrined, the guys made up for their dereliction of duty by giving every member of the audience a copy of True Crime: Streets of L.A. (Which reminds us -- wouldn't you like to get free things just for joining our studio audience? Click here to find out more.)

Who among us doesn't own two or three different gaming consoles? (Well, okay -- at least among us geeky gamer types, let's say.) Have you ever had to experience the horror of stacking your consoles? Yoshi could not abide by this esthetic disaster, so he decided to combine a couple of console units -- the Xbox and the PS2.
"They're not modded, just repurposed," noted Yoshi. He simply rid himself of the old cases, squeezed the two systems' motherboards into a new red Lucite case, and voila! (Warning: Those directions take about 80 hours of work time.)
Altogether, the cost of the systems, the custom plastic case, and the laser cutting required to make the case cost about $700. But it certainly looks cool! (Especially Yoshi's new slogan inscribed on the side: "Friends Don't Let Friends Use Stock."
Unfortunately, Yoshi was so slammed with trying to construct this beast by showtime, that he didn't actually get around to writing a how-to article. We'll harass him about it next week. In the meantime, you can browse the threads on his forum for clues here: http://yoshi.us/forums/

Apparently under the mistaken impression that our guest, Father of the Pride director Mark Risley, would be attired in a silly animal suit, Alex showed up for the interview in his personal bunny costume. (Or could it be that Alex will make any excuse just to embrace his plush fetish?)
The Great MP3 Player Showdown
Equipped with a ring announcer, a ring girl, and (by gum) a ring, The Screen Savers put the current crop of 20GB MP3 players into a head-to-head slugfest. Will one of the new contenders knock out the world-champion Apple iPod?
A brief summary of their findings:
* Dell DJ20: Too big, poor interface.
* Creative Zen Touch: Nearly the same as the Dell in form but with an overly sensitive Touch Pad. Best sounding, though.
* Archos Gmini 220: Short battery life, small buttons, but it does have a CF card reader and voice recorder.
* Sony Network Walkman: Incredibly small size, excellent battery life, but will only play Sony's ATRAC3 codec -- and it's the most expensive. "Sony, what are you doing?" begged Alex. "Call me. I'll help you out."

Call #1: Matt from Newport, Oregon thinks he's got a goldmine in his back pocket -- he's registered the domain name of "gmaildata.com." How can he go about making his fortune by selling it?

Yoshi's Mod: The X-Station
Who among us doesn't own two or three different gaming consoles? (Well, okay -- at least among us geeky gamer types, let's say.) Have you ever had to experience the horror of stacking your consoles? Yoshi could not abide by this esthetic disaster, so he decided to combine a couple of console units -- the Xbox and the PS2.
"They're not modded, just repurposed," noted Yoshi. He simply rid himself of the old cases, squeezed the two systems' motherboards into a new red Lucite case, and voila! (Warning: Those directions take about 80 hours of work time.)
Altogether, the cost of the systems, the custom plastic case, and the laser cutting required to make the case cost about $700. But it certainly looks cool! (Especially Yoshi's new slogan inscribed on the side: "Friends Don't Let Friends Use Stock."
Unfortunately, Yoshi was so slammed with trying to construct this beast by showtime, that he didn't actually get around to writing a how-to article. We'll harass him about it next week. In the meantime, you can browse the threads on his forum for clues here: http://yoshi.us/forums/
Alex Shows His Pride
Apparently under the mistaken impression that our guest, Father of the Pride director Mark Risley, would be attired in a silly animal suit, Alex showed up for the interview in his personal bunny costume. (Or could it be that Alex will make any excuse just to embrace his plush fetish?)
The Great MP3 Player Showdown
Equipped with a ring announcer, a ring girl, and (by gum) a ring, The Screen Savers put the current crop of 20GB MP3 players into a head-to-head slugfest. Will one of the new contenders knock out the world-champion Apple iPod?
A brief summary of their findings:
* Dell DJ20: Too big, poor interface.
* Creative Zen Touch: Nearly the same as the Dell in form but with an overly sensitive Touch Pad. Best sounding, though.
* Archos Gmini 220: Short battery life, small buttons, but it does have a CF card reader and voice recorder.
* Sony Network Walkman: Incredibly small size, excellent battery life, but will only play Sony's ATRAC3 codec -- and it's the most expensive. "Sony, what are you doing?" begged Alex. "Call me. I'll help you out."
