Footage of our great american treasure, the bald eagle. Thanks to the Endangered Species Act, bald eagle populations have grown from less than 500 breeding pairs to almost 8,000.
We owe it to our children and grandchildren to be good stewards of the environment and leave behind a legacy of protecting endangered species and the special places they call home.

A bald eagle showed up at the pond across the street one day for some lunch. He would hover over the water until he spotted some fish then he'd dive in. Its pretty darn rare to see bald eagles in this part of Maryland.
I thought about bugging him with one of my remote control airplanes, but he took off before I had a chance. |

It's fledging time! On July 12 I spent the day in the Victoria, BC, Canada area touring around several wild bald eagles nest. It's time for the eagle babies to make their first flights. On two of the nests (ie: Sidney) we know for a fact that it was the baby's first ever flight because there is a 24 hour live web cam set up filming.

I approached the sandbar, as always stopping at intervals to film in case they fly away. Eventually I get quite close, when suddenly one of them drifts a short distance to start eating a live crab that they must have captured earlier! After a bit they move on down the beach and keep eating. |

I finally got some video of one of the bald eagles nesting on the mountain I live on. With bright sun at my back, I had trouble getting the bald eagle into the view finder, but at about a minute in, I get some good footage. It was awesome!
I was hoping he'd dive into the pond for a fish, but no luck today. Maybe next time.
This was shot from my patio overlooking Vlai Pond in Franklinton, NY. |

A-63, aka Limuw, was found dead on August 15th in the middle of the road in northern Nevada. My memorial to this eagle is an imaginary conversation. Maybe he wasn't recongized as a bald eagle; the juvenile feathers are dark, with no white head or tail feathers. This still does not justify running over a bird that stands nearly 3 feet tall. The cause of death will never be known as his carcass was left where he was killed. Maybe it is better this way. From ashes to ashes and dust to dust. He will never be forgotten by those of us who fell in love with him and all the other Channel Islands eagles.

"The Rising" An American Bald Eagle carved from a single 3,000 pound log of red oak. Jason carved the Figure on site, in Ernest Park, located in Kensington Maryland.
This beautiful Eagle was created by Jason as a loving memorial to his niece Katie.
Katie's spirit soars
In the small American town of Kensington, Maryland, the proud figure of a bald eagle gazes down on the residents from its perch on one of the town's main streets.
The 2.4m-tall carved sculpture would be enough to inspire the locals as an enduring symbol of American freedom, but this sculpture holds an even more special meaning.

K26 hovered over the egg all day yesterday through gale-force winds. Even when K10 brought her a fish to eat, she wouldn't leave the egg for more than a few seconds. She actually pushed him off the egg. She knew her chick was breaking through and that it was her duty to stay with it. This morning we get our first looks at this tiny miracle on Santa Cruz island.
You can read about the struggle to reintroduce America's symbol, the Bald Eagle, to the Channel Islands as well as watch this miracle of nature via live eagle-cam by going to http://www.iws.org and clicking first on 'interactive' and then choosing one of the 3 nests to view.... 2 are on Catalina Island and 1 on Santa Cruz Island or go to: http://z7.invisionfree.com/CHIL_EagleCAM/index.php?act=idx |
