During a press conference on 24 February 2001 during Powell's visit to Cairo, Egypt, answering a question about the US-led sanctions against Iraq, the Secretary of State said: "He has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbors."

I was this morning at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View to see Condie Rice taking a fast and furious ride (up to 130 MPH on the tarmac) on board of the all-electric Tesla Roadster. There will be more than 400 of these cars shipping in the US this Fall, at about $90K a pop for the Rich and Famous like Governor Schwarzenegger, actor George Clooney and Google founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page. The Secretary of State is in Silicon Valley with Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer to discuss about innovation, green technologies, etc.
"The Foreign Minister and I just gone in a little rocket ship as we went down the runaway there... We've been looking at some of the ways that energy efficiency can improve our ability to get off of hydro-carbons but also to improve the environment and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions which is an issue of great concern to me and to Foreign Minister Downer as well. An anti-war demonstrator accosted Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as she arrived to testify at a hearing on Capitol Hill, shouting "war criminal" before being dragged away by security.
Members of the Capitol Police department also removed several members of the anti-war group "Code Pink" from the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing room, who struggled as they left.
The hearing began on schedule and Rice's testimony did not appear to be affected by the incident. |

Condoleezza Rice compares the problems that the African-American people had in overcoming their history of slavery in the U.S., with those problems of the Latin-American people in overcoming the U.S supported dictatorships of their respective countries.
I think it's great that Condoleezza would recognize the recent history of the U.S relations with Central and South America countries for what they are, and then proclaim that the U.S. supports any democratically elected government regardless of its economic policy. She also spoke of her approval of CAFTA in implementing a mixed economic system which would show respect for social justice and cultural traditions. I would hope that would mean that a subsistence farmer, who is living in environmental harmony with the land, would still have the option of being a subsistence farmer without interference from a "vertically integrated" corporation...
...but if she really wanted to help the Latin-Americans "overcome their history with the U.S.", why would she keep as Deputy Secretary Of State, John Negroponte...the very man who, just a little more that 20 years ago, was responsible for propagating those crimes of which Rice spoke.
Others in the administration are guilty of these criminal policies as well. Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, was the CIA Deputy Director when the CIA was training and supporting those death squads which terrorized the local populace. Through torture and assassinations in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala, these misguided policies supported by the Reagan administration, continued under the protection of Ambassador John Negroponte.
Today Negroponte continues to implement counterproductive policies to peace... including the march to war with Iran.
If Condoleezza is to abide by her new-found integrity, and be a true diplomat to the Latin-American world, she must advise John Negroponte to resign his position as Deputy Secretary of State. |

Concentración y manifestación contra la visita de Condoleezza Rice a Madrid el 31 de Mayo y 1 de junio de 2007.
RICE NO TIENE NADA QUE DECIR SOBRE CUBA, EN TODO CASO PEDIR PERDÓN Y ARREPENTIRSE
Las declaraciones de Condoleezza Rice, antes de iniciar su viaje de reconciliación a España, son una provocación al pueblo cubano, una nueva violación del derecho internacional y una agresión a la soberanía del estado español.
Estas declaraciones no tienen otra finalidad que la de dictar al gobierno español cual debe ser su papel en la escena internacional, subordinada a los intereses geopolíticos del imperialismo yanki, y violando una vez más el derecho de Cuba y su revolución a desarrollar su propio proceso político soberano.
Las modificaciones de la posición del gobierno de Zapatero con respecto a Cuba responden fundamentalmente a los intereses del capitalismo español en la disputa por las zonas de influencia en América Latina con otros centros capitalistas. Pero ello se traduce, en este caso, en una posición de mayor respeto por la soberanía de Cuba y en la voluntad de concretar determinados acuerdos con la isla. Pero, precisamente por eso, no hay que engañarse; al mismo tiempo este gobierno coloca trabas de todo tipo al normal intercambio entre dos países soberanos, como ha sido la reciente prohibición de viajar a España a dos expertas cubanas en prevención del Sida para participar en actividades promovidas por organizaciones de solidaridad.
Condoleezza Rice, en vez de realizar estas declaraciones ingerencistas, debería responder de las políticas americanas con relación a España, de su responsabilidad en el asesinato del periodista español José Couso en Irak por tropas americanas. También debería responder sobre como entiende su gobierno la llamada política antiterrorista, pues la reciente puesta en libertad del terrorista confeso Posada Carriles viene a demostrar que la asignación del término terrorista es una cuestión ligada a los intereses del capitalismo. Posada Carriles es "su terrorista" y por ello recibe todo el apoyo de su gobierno para que pueda caminar libremente por EE. UU. y que no responda ante los tribunales que lo tienen que juzgar, incumpliendo -entre otros-, el tratado de extradición con Venezuela, donde Posada debería comparecer ante los tribunales en un proceso interrumpido por su evasión de la prisión con ayuda de la CIA.
Condoleezza Rice debería también de responder por la prisión de cinco revolucionarios cubanos, luchadores consecuentes contra el terrorismo, que se encuentran en injusta e ilegal prisión en EE. UU. Debería explicar también la violación de derechos de las compañeras de dos de ellos, a las cuales su gobierno deniega una y otra vez el visado necesario para visitarlos en las prisiones donde los tienen encerrados. Si de derechos humanos quiere hablar Condoleezza que empiece por su propio gobierno, por el terrorismo de la CIA y por los crímenes de sus tropas extendidas por todo el planeta.
Por ello desde el PCPE rechazamos las declaraciones de Condoleezza Rice y en su visita a nuestro país participaremos en todas las manifestaciones de rechazo que un amplio movimiento popular y democrático está organizando.
Como decía Galeano en una ocasión "los maestros de todas las dictaduras quieren dar a Cuba lecciones de democracia".
