Selma es una emigrante checa que vive con su hijo Gene en los Estados Unidos. Allí trabaja en una fábrica y en sus ratos libres colabora en el musical Sonrisas y Lágrimas. Selma sabe que se está quedando ciega y que seguramente no podrá hacer más musicales, sin embargo lo que más le preocupa es el hecho de que su hijo padece la misma enfermedad y que también se quedará ciego. Selma quiere pagar la operación que salvará a su hijo de la ceguera, para ello trabaja duro y ahorra todo lo que puede. Como no dispone de mucho dinero vive en una roulotte en el jardín de Bill y Linda Houston un matrimonio al que idealiza.
Para librarse de ese mundo miserable, Selma vive en un mundo de musicales, eso junto a su amistad con Kathy y el amor de su hijo Gene, son los que le protegen de la dura vida que lleva y la ayudan a ser feliz, sobre todo porque como ella misma dice: "en los musicales nunca pasa nada malo".
En España esta película se estrenó con el título: "Bailar en la oscuridad". En Argentina el título de estreno fue "Bailarina en la oscuridad", mucho más fiel al original.
Las canciones de este musical han sido compuestas por Björk, la cantautora islandesa que además hace el papel principal y que después de su actuación en esta película dijo que no volvería a actuar, a pesar de haber ganado la palma de oro en Cannes y de haber sido nominada a los Oscars.
El papel de Kathy lo representa Catherine Deneuve una de las más grandes actrices francesas de todos los tiempos.
Lars von Trier es el director más emblemático, polémico y ambicioso de Dinamarca y uno de los más importantes del mundo, ya era un director consolidado antes de ser uno de los cofundadores del movimiento Dogma. Desgraciadamente en la actualidad está atravesando una crisis artística y personal. |

Coming Soon is a film about that one, often unnoticed moment that can change everything.
At a NYC bar over the course of one night, we follow a theatre company and their director, whose play closed tonight, and the ex-employees of a failed small business, as they all deal with what's coming soon in their lives -- imminent changes, crucial or trivial decisions, hopes and disappointments, crushing struggles and quiet triumphs of everyday existence. Utilizing a rapid pace, the film cuts back and forth from minor to major dramas, hurtling towards that one, unnoticed moment. A jukebox in the middle of the bar sets the tempo of the movie. as does the occasional appearance of digital chronometers displaying the exact amount of time left in each characters life. As the night winds down and the director and bartender are the only two left at the bar, one seemingly random action stands a chance of changing everything. |

Last Call is a snapshot of a night out in the big city. The eye of the camera moves through a collection of humorous and horrible moments between friends, lovers, relatives, colleagues, and total strangers, and then slows down to capture a moment that could alter the life of one of the characters forever.
In a divey NYC bar over the course of one night, Last Call follows two different groups of people: A theatre director and his ensemble of young "nobody" actors, regulars at this bar, whose off-off-off-Broadway play closed tonight; and the owner of a small business, her brother, and her two employees, whose bankrupt business also closed tonight. All of them are at the bar to get drunk.
Last Call opens at the end of what has clearly been an inebriated night. As Steven, the wheelchair-bound theatre director, rolls himself toward the door, his Life Chronometer, a "device" that indicates how much time he has left to live down to the second, comes out of his chest flashing. Time is running out for Steven. But just before his Chronometer hits zero, the scene fades, and we travel back to the beginning of the night.
As the film pushes forward, its tempo set by a jukebox in the middle of the bar, we encounter relationships damaged beyond repair, people struggling to face their issues, and individuals trying to establish a connection. Mitch and Lali will stumble to come to terms with the end of their romance. Pete and Carrie will finally address the one issue that is driving them apart. Jay will work up the courage to talk to Lucy. And Holly will decide whether or not to give her ex-husband one more chance.
Throughout the night, the Bartender—a single mom and former musician who was always one gig away from a record deal—treats the cast to double shots of Old Grand Dad and dispenses advice. As the place clears out, she volunteers to make sure the drunken director makes it home in one piece, bringing us back to where we began. To that moment when her seemingly random action may save his life...
Last Call is about that sense of loneliness and vulnerability that one can feel even in a crowded bar in the most crowded city in the world. It is about people getting drunk and trying to escape issues in their lives. But reality chases them down, and inebriation only magnifies their struggle to connect. |

De hecho, yo veo las películas en versión original, que creo que es la única manera correcta de apreciar la interpretación de un actor. |
