This is a short documentary of our trek for ten days into the Thar Desert from Jaisalmer, an ancient city in Rajasthan, India. With just three camels; Papu, Lalu, and Babaloo and our trusted guide Rhman, we set out with all the food and water necessary for the foray. We trekked about 20 km per day going 7 to 8 hours on camel back. We slept on top of the dunes at night and battled dung beetles and the occasional snake. The people of the desert are incredibly hospitable and friendly and we had some amazing interactions. We got to know our camels intimately as well as our guide a hard working man who is passionate about life. |

I went with some of my Family to have fun in the desert. I was climbing a sandy hill, and then I saw these camels going toward "our camping site". It's a beautiful site from up the hill. I'll upload some pictures here may be in a week or so...

Here it is! This is part two of our series about our trip to Morocco. In this video we spend time in the home of a Berber rug weaver getting an education about the materials and story patterns of Berber rugs. These rugs took months to make and were absolutely gorgeous! Then we had lunch and watched the rock climbers in the beautiful city of Tinerhir (the food in Morocco was very tasty!). After that we headed straight for the Sahara desert. Our small group rode camels into the desert and we camped with our guides amongst the sand dunes. Unfortunately it was too dark to capture that night on video... We sat on Berber rugs, drinking mint tea, telling stories & jokes, singing songs and listening to our guides play drums.
Part three will be coming in the form of an article in a couple days from now. It was originally a video but was quite lengthy... The video was really just us talking about our experience; so, we decided to transcribe the conversation instead. In part three we'll talk about things we learned while traveling in Morocco, and discuss experiences that helped us in our travels. Remember, we are not giving advice; we're only recounting our experience, which was very positive. We loved the culture, the people, and especially the food! So much so that Steph asked her Moroccan friend from Rabat on the trip to write down a bunch of authentic Moroccan recipes for her! If you'd like them, just send an email...

Turkmenistan's massive oil and gas reserves are as yet untapped.
Credited with the potential to become another Kuwait there is one main stumbling block on Turkmenistan's road to instant wealth; it can't sell its oil to the rest of the world. International sanctions prevent the building of a pipeline through Iran and into Turkey. The USA Ambassador backs up claims that the country has a huge unrealised oil potential. Otherwise Turkmenistan's main exports are camels and pedigree race horses - often given as gifts to visiting dignitaries. One man already exploiting Turkmenistan's oil potential is former communist leader and self-styled President Saparmurat Niyazov Turkmenbashi. His personality cult and photograph appear everywhere; even at a folk music competition. He rejects a multi-party democracy as too unstable. We interview Turkmenistan's Vice Premier and look inside a country shaking off its communist isolation. |
