Our cartoon specimen is none other than Bugs Bunny. (You might've heard of him.)
This cartoon was directed by the great Chuck Jones in 1943. (You might've heard of him too.)

Falling Hare is a 1943 Merrie Melodies cartoon directed by Robert Clampett, starring Bugs Bunny. The title is another play on "hair", as "falling hair" refers to impending baldness, while in this cartoon's climax, the title turns out to be descriptive of Bugs' situation.
Within the cartoon are several contemporary pop culture references, including to Wendell Willkie, John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men and the folk songs "Yankee Doodle," "I've Been Working on the Railroad," and the Russian folk song "Dark Eyes." Bugs' Gremlin nemesis also makes a reappearance in the 1990 cartoon Tiny Toons episode Journey to the Center of Acme Acres with two look alikes as the secondary antagonists of the episode. The Gremlin holds the distinction, along with Cecil Turtle, of being one of the very few antagonists to actually and completely outsmart and rattle Bugs. |

Censorship:
On Cartoon Network and the old WB channel showings, the entire part of Bugs as a slave in an attempt to get past Sam is cut.
On the FOX airing of The Merrie Melodies Show, the Bugs as a slave part was cut and the part where Sam gets blasted by a cannon is replaced with a frozen shot of Bugs in drag as a Southern belle leaning against a door. |

Working at a U.S. Army Airfield under the banner "Victory Through Hare Power," the Master Heckler finally meets his match. While reading a book about gremlins- tiny creatures who sabotage ("saba-togee," says Bugs) military aircraft- Bugs Bunny happens upon one such creature, calmly attempting to detonate a blockbuster bomb with a mallet. An unusually gullible Bugs chases the gremlin into a bomber, which, of course, winds up airborne and out of control. The plane finally plummets earthward, giving Bugs the chance to express his mortal fear in a dozen different amusing ways. Fortunately, the plane runs out of gas just inches away from impact.
