The current format of Top Gear is a BAFTA and Emmy Award winning BBC television series about motor vehicles, mainly cars. The programme is estimated to have over 350 million viewers worldwide, up to 8 million of whom watch the programme each week in the UK on BBC Two.
Top Gear is presented by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig, an anonymous test driver.
The ninth series of Top Gear premiered on 28 January 2007, having been delayed since October 2006 because of Hammond's car accident in September 2006.[3] The last episode of series nine was broadcast on 4 March 2007. According to the BBC, Top Gear will return in autumn 2007.[4]
The original Top Gear was a half-hour show produced by BBC Birmingham that ran from 1977 to 2001. Top Gear magazine is a separate publication produced by BBC Magazines which shares some contributors, editors and features with the TV show including contributions by the presenters themselves.

According to VW, the new 2008 Volkswagen Scirocco has been designed as a pure sports car. So forget for a moment that it's essentially a rebodied GTI. And disregard the fact that instead of a sloping hatchback like its predecessor, this Scirocco has a more traditional square back like, uh, the GTI. |

Volkswagen unveiled its new minivan, the Routan, at the Chicago Auto Show, running Feb. 6-17, just weeks after the premiere of the new Passat CC at the NAIAS 2008. The Routan is a seven-seater that is more than five meters in length. The vehicle comes standard with a 3.8L V6, offering 197 hp and 230 lb. ft. of torque, when combined with the standard six-speed automatic transmission. A 4.0L V6 will be available, rated at 253 hp and 263 lb. ft. of torque. The minivan will be produced in the Volkswagen facility in Windsor, Ontario. The automaker is hoping to increase its volume in North America with models like the Passat CC and the new Routan, both of which are tailored to the U.S. market's requirements. |

How long can a Volkswagen engine run at top RPM with no oil? This is annual event at the Maritime Volkswagen Owners Club (MVOC) show. This video is from the 1998 show. UPDATE: From comments., I see that some folks don't understand the reason we did this. This is a common event at many Volkswagen shows. The purpose is to show how duriable an air-cooled VW engine is. Try doing the same with another type of engine!? Plus, the VW engine can be repaired quickly and cheaply with hours. |

2001 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: MICROBUS CONCEPT
A design study for the world of tomorrow as a homage to a great tradition
Wolfsburg / Geneva, 27 February 2001. Volkswagen is showing the concept car "Microbus" as a European premiere at the 71st International Geneva Motor Show. The bus of the future was designed in the Volkswagen design studio in California especially for the US market. With its original design and numerous innovative ideas, the Microbus harks back to a great tradition, starting in 1950 with the first VW bus. This Volkswagen was successful worldwide and reached cult status, especially in the USA, with the name Microbus. The design study is a new definition of this cult status:A contemporary expression of personality and freedom.
Against the backdrop of both the legendary first VW Bus generation - whose design is still, especially in the USA, known and loved today - and the form of the Beetle and the New Beetle, the design study is not a simple copy of the original bus. Our aim was to create another Volkswagen original, which was to pay homage to a great history in its own independent visionary way. The innovative Californian design team has succeeded in doing just this. This independence is demonstrated on the Microbus by the striking front end with particularly thin-line Xenon headlights, the design of the side windows and the large sliding doors. They open and close electronically at the push of a button. A dynamic appearance is guaranteed by the wide wheel arches and the specially developed 20" alloy wheels.
High-tech interior for communicative travelling
The Microbus offers 3 rows of seats. The middle centre seats can be turned through 180 degrees and the third row has been designed as a seat bench. All passengers have the protection of an integral seat belt. Intelligent features such as these are characteristic of many features in the interior. The Microbus can be transformed into a veritable car cinema: The appropriate visual images are provided by a 7" screen in the centre console, four monitors in the backrests of the first and second rows as well as two extendable displays between the second and third rows.
A second 7 inch screen, located towards the front of the roof area, provides a view of what is behind the Microbus. The picture is provided by a so-called backeye camera. Along with both the exterior mirrors, this provides a comprehensive view of what is behind the vehicle. |
