Ultima Underworld - Gameplay

This is me (guess what) playing Ultima Underworld with Dosbox 0.70. This game (1992) came out before Wolfenstein 3D, it has physics, you can jump, fall down (im not sure about looking up and down, i didnt find the buttons, lol), swim (i wanted to show that, but it would have been a waste of time), a eat/sleep system and everything else im trying to show here. I had to present the game in under 10 minutes so its a little "run through". I myself played this game to the 6th or 7th dungeon, but some bug appeared and i lost all my inventory, which really pissed me off. If you want to see the Intro, just search for it on Youtube. Im going to upload more old dos game videos.

This is me playing Ultima Underworld 2 (1993) from Origin. This game has a changed interface, the screen is bigger, the graphics are more detailed. It now uses some digitized sound effects and so on. I didn´t expect that two of those Zombie-things attack me.

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoGXfGfXkuo - The Game - Ultma Underworld: The Stygian Abyss is a first-person 3D RPG game set in the Ultima universe. UW is the first of only two first-person style games in the "Underworld" series (Arx Fatalis was slated to be Underworld III, but Arkane was unable to get a license for the name). UW was created by Blue Sky Productions and published by Origin Systems for DOS, PlayStation and Windows CE, among others in 1992. - The Story - The storyline takes place right after Ultima VI where the Avatar (you) in Britannia, witnesses the kidnapping of a baron's daughter by a wizard. He escapes, but you are caught by the guards and found guilty of the crime. Later you are thrown into the "Stygian Abyss" a failed elaborate colony built inside a volcano. You are told you must rescue the baron's daughter if you ever hope to escape. - The Video - This is speedrun completes my "Underworld" speedruns, and is considerably faster than my run for UW2 (by about 25 minutes). Again, I use some cool glitches and my route is extremely optimized. To my knowledge, this is the first and only existing recorded speedrun of this game.

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYdnVmL4q3Q - The Game - Ultima Underworld II: Labyrinth of worlds is a first-person 3D RPG game set in the Ultima universe. UW2 is the sequel to Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss and was created by Looking Glass Technologies and published by Electronic Arts in 1993 - The Story - The storyline takes place between parts one and two of Ultima VII and as usual has you playing that part of the Avatar. One year after the Black Gate incident of Ultima VII, you are invited to a feast by Lord British to celebrate the year of rebuilding in Britannia. In the early morning afterwards, a great dome of blackrock crystal forms over the castle trapping everyone, including you, inside. The blackrock was created by Mayor Patterson for the Guardian who intends to invade Britannia, which has now been cut off from its greatest defender (you). Searching down through the sewers under the castle you find a smaller crystal, a 'reverberation' created by the sheer power of the Guardian's spell. The crystal allows you to travel to other worlds under the Guardian's control in order to free the castle from the spell. - The video - This is a very special run for me, why? Because this is my all-time favorite game! I basically wanted to make a "tribute" to it, and I think this is very appropriate. It may be old but that doesn't mean it isn't fun! I optimized my strategy so that I only visit every world the absolute minimum number of times possible. Final time is 52 minutes 41.2 seconds. This is about my eighteenth recorded attempt and is probably about as 'perfect' as I can get in a single-segment run. I'd guess if I got it absolutely perfect it'd probably save about 2-4 minutes total, getting it under 50 minutes. While I never 'cheat', in order to pull off this fast time I did take advantage of several very interesting glitches and shortcuts which I'm sure will amuse those who are familiar with this game. I did originally consider doing this run without using them, but the problem with not using them is that it would have easily taken two or three times longer to complete (a lot of boring time spent building up the character, etc), basically it would have made it pretty boring to watch. So since I just wanted to go for the fastest achievable in-game time (1 minute real-world equals 1 minute game time, meaning no dying or sleeping as it uses game time) using only methods inside the game world, I think this does the job perfectly! And I hope you enjoy it!!

Ultima Underworld was one of the first true 3D games, and was cited by ID (Particularly John Carmack) as the game that inspired them to make DOOM. Ultima Underworld was also responsible for inspiring Arkane Studios to create Arx Fatalis, which was more or less a modernized version of this game. Considered one of the greatest action RPGs ever created, Ultima Underworld's designers would later become responsible for other genre-bending games in the coming years. Such as Warren Spector's hit Deus Ex. The sequel to Deus Ex is something we'd like to forget, however. Blame Harvey "Witchboy" Smith for that.

Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss (1992 - DOS) A little video to show UW's gameplay in relation to level exploration and puzzles. For UW-veterans: the video also shows two hidden areas, one being Sir Cabirus' Tomb. I used a 'just before the end' save game, so the charcter is very advanced and already equipped with all the runes. Puzzle: the two levers set the x,y coordinates, while the buttons raise and lower the plattforms. PS: DosBox 0.70 rulez!

The ending to the brilliant MS-DOS game Ultima Underworld The Stygian Abyss. You throw the 8 talismans of sir cabirus into the lava by the guardian and you both get sucked into a moongate into a different world. You must then follow the green path to get back to Brittania. I added some Zelda music because there was no music installed. The music for the game is horrible.

SFC - Dungeon Master
Time :

Dungeon Master - Victor Interactive Software - 12/20/91 JP Dungeon Master - JVC Digital Studios - 1992 EU Dungeon Master - JVC Digital Studios - 1993 US "While previous games such as Alternate Reality: The Dungeon, The Bard's Tale, Ultima and Wizardry offered Dungeons & Dragons-style role playing, Dungeon Master established several new standards for role playing and computer games in general. Dungeon Master was a realtime game instead of the traditional turn-based approach that was prevalent until then. Instead of using text-based commands to interact with the environment, players directly manipulated objects and the environment by clicking the mouse in the enlarged first-person view. Abstract Dungeons and Dragons style experience points and levels were eschewed in favor of a system where the characters' skills were improved directly via using them. It also introduced some novel control methods including the spell casting system, which involved learning sequences of runes which represented the form and function of a spell's effect. For example, a fireball spell was created by mixing the fire symbol with the wing symbol. This kind of attention to detail and focus on the user interface was typical of the game and helped create an often captivating sense of craft and ingenuity. Another factor in immersiveness was the then-revolutionary use of sound effects to indicate when a creature was nearby. An in-game screenshot An in-game screenshot Another factor in its popularity may have been the imaginative mythology, with players often reporting a nurturing identity with their chosen characters. Nancy Holder, wife of producer Wayne Holder, wrote the storyline in the manual (from a base scenario suggested by Michael Newton and the FTL team). She is a successful novelist, having written for series including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch and Smallville. Many reviewers considered Dungeon Master as the best exemplar of its genre, despite the many clones that arrived to challenge it. First of these was Bloodwych (1989), featuring similar game play but adding a mode allowing two simultaneous players on one machine. Other notable clones included Captive and Eye of the Beholder. While Dungeon Master itself was inspired by early Ultima games, it was also itself the source of inspiration for the later Ultima Underworld game. Game journalist Niko Nirvi wrote that no 3D role playing title before Ultima Underworld (1992) could challenge Dungeon Master as a game. To date Dungeon Master retains a small but faithful following online, with several fan ports and remakes available or in development." -Wikipedia

This is a short video showing the beggining and end of the last boss battle in Arx Fatalis. Before continuing, let me just say that Arx is one of my all-time favorite games, and I defended this game, and its honor, on several very negative message boards when it came out. For a game made with nothing more then the MS-supplied Direct X7 toolset and programmed by a half-dozen fanatical (and extremely gifted) frenchmen, Arx did what *no other* RPG had done since Ultima Underworld 2. It made dungeon romps fun again. Ok, my character here is a min/max'ed character that is pretty cheesy, I'll admit. I only increased two skills the entire game: Object Knowledge and Casting. I increased both to 60 and divided the rest inbetween defense and offense. His core stats are 14/11/11/13 (Though his equipment increases his 14 strength to 19) Notice how many heal potions I have!

What do you get when you take Eye of the Beholder (Or any step movement, real time first person RPG) and juice it up with state of the art graphics and sound? You get Anvil of Dawn. Developed by Dreamforge, the Dungeon Hack/Ravenloft designers, this game is probably the most advanced of any of the old step movement RPGs...if not also one of the best. What you don't see in this video is the exterior of the first castle, which looks amazingly good for a game of that era. Though you don't get a party (You must adventure by yourself, like Ultima Underworld) you do get to choose from 5 starting characters who each have their own skills and statistical differences.

My Clip of Me Defeating Sephiroth in Kindgom Hearts 2, the Fight Between he and Cloud that follows. Yes, I made this, I did not just find this on the internet and uploaded it myself. Also notice, when I show my Ability List, you'll notice that i have 104 of 106 AP used. You'll also notice that item boost is a 2 AP ability. Why didnt I equip it? Cause I forgot. When I 1st beat him it was equipped, but when I reloaded my file a few days later to fight him again and record the video, I forgot to re-equip it. ------------------ 3rd EDIT!!!!! ------------------ Yay for 150,000+ views and 1000+ Comments! Thanks for Liking my video enough to keep getting hits and comments a full year (and about 14 months at the moment) after I uploaded it:) ------------------ 2nd EDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! ------------------ Stop with the "YOu suck, I beat him on level X" Comments. I uploaded this video 2 weeks after the game came out. Ive beaten it 3 times, and i really dont care what level you beat him have. This particular video is on Normal mode, but I have beaten him on Hard Mode at level 62. I uploaded this video because at the time of it's release there were no english videos of the fight and the cutscenes in decent quality. Im glad that 9 months later im still getting multiple comments a week on the video, but at the time, as well as not looking online for any hints or tips, I did not know i could use reflect on the orbs, or that I could hit him to block Sin harvest angel, or any of that. Also, Its been since July or so sicne ive beaten the game last, and I dont plan on starting another game of it anytime soon. I dont need tips on beating sephiroth or the game, as personally, its easy enough. I didnt make this video to show off any uber KH skills, i made it so that there was a decent quality version of the fight and cutscenes in english, as there were none when i uploaded this. Personally, if all your going to comment on is that your better than me that you beat him at a lower level or with less equipment, good for you, but I REALLY dont care, so stop trying to compare your 1337 skillz to my n00bish video of suckage. If you care that much about someone else's skill at a single player RPG on the internet, then you have many different things to worry about. ------------- !!!!!!!!!!!EDIT: A few notes. 1st of all, yes I know Sephirtoh got stuck in the wall at one point in the movie allowing to get a single free hit. I dont really care. Ive beaten him without the little glitch, but I REALLY didnt feel like reloading the game, start recording again, watch the cutscence again, and start another fight when he was already at half his life. I just want to let some people know that THIS WASNT THE 1ST TIME I fought him and just got lucky. Ive beaten him before its just an ironic that it happend at the time of the recording 2ndly, Stat wise, it is listed but it is a bit hard to see, but I fought him at level 86, with Oblivion Keyblade equiped. i got the Dash Move my Mastering the Wisdom Form (The Blue/Donald one). I dont remember exactly where you get trinity, but It was pretty early in the game when I 1st got control of Sora. You get oblivion after you Fight against the Orginization XIII member when you reach the world that never was. People Also were asking me where I trained. I trained mostly in the 1st 3 floors of the castle in the world that never was, while in a critical state with the gullwing Keyblade Equiped, as it gives you triple AP with it when your in critical state. You get 1000exp from EVERY enemy on those 1st 3 floors (from when you first enter the castle to the room where you Fought Xigbar) So 3000exp per enemy levels me up really quickly, by just going up and down the 1st few floors. As for the forms, best place to level them up (aside from Final Form as you need to kill nobodies to lvl it up) is the Hercules underworld, as by simply entering and exiting the tournaments immedietly refills your Drive Guadge which saves ALOT of time instead of refilling the drive guage manually by fighting. Also, I dont have Ultima Weapon, because of the reason is that I did not know where it was when I played the game. I beat the game without reading any help, guides or hits, Thats why I dont have it. So I used Oblivion. I now know that you synthisize it. And finally. Stop Emailing me for help. I uploaded a freakin video, complete with all my items, stats, and abilites listed. I dont know what more help I can give. Look what i have Equiped, and try to do as I do.
