"Let us have the confidence once again that we can debate new ideas, new thinking, without forever fearing the taunt of betrayal. Let us say what we mean and mean what we say. Not just what we are against. But what we are for. No more ditching. No more dumping. Stop saying what we don't mean. And start saying what we do mean, what we stand by, what we stand for. Caution will not win . . . Courage will." Tony Blair 1994 |

Tony Blair, the former British Prime Minister, is famous for his ease with language. His communication skills are second to none. Here I have uploaded some recent examples, some with particular relevance to today's political issues and his recent party experience, and some just to show how Blair can handle ANY opponent, no matter how linguistically dexterous.

Tony Blair, former British Prime Minister, and now Middle East peace envoy, is the consummate political communicator.
This video is a compilation of some of his words throughout his ten years as British Prime Minister (1997 - 2007).
Some background is included for those who do not know how great an impact he and his party made on their first election victory in 1997.
Also, a few snippets of policy. And, just to make a point, Blair did NOT decide to throw in the towel in June 2007. He could have been in place for another two or three years. The Labour party, in its wisdom, NOT the people, decided he had to go.
Is it "back to the future" for the Labour Party? Only time will tell.
Personally, I think they've made a HUGE mistake.
This is in two parts due to the length of some of the video clips. Both parts are of around 3-4 minutes.

Tony Blair, former British Prime Minister, embarks upon his "impossible" task of helping to bring peace to the Middle East. The nature of the widespread conflicts in the region is long-lasting and historically rooted.
It's a truly daunting task which Mr Blair has set out for himself. The history of the search for peace in this part of the world is littered with failed attempts.
Will Tony Blair be any more successful?
With his success at guiding the parties to peace in Northern Ireland, he has highly regarded skills.
I sincerely hope he can use them to best effect in this great quest.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair praises New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg's sustainability plan in a taped message that played at the Mayor's speech at the American Museum of Natural History on Earth Day 2007. It's been 10 years since Tony Blair broke all records and brought his New Labour party into power, after 18 years in the political wilderness. He made them electable.
Then he won another two election victories for his party in 2001 and 2005. Now, in their wisdom, that party wants him to leave office before his time is up. As an ordinary British voter no-one asked ME! I'd have wanted him to stay if they had. And I'm not even a Labour voter.
An interesting kind of democracy.
Some of us ARE going to miss Tony Blair; perhaps more of us than we realise right now. And I, for one, DO appreciate what he's done for our country. This short video is just to say - Thank You, Mr Blair.
My blog "Keep Tony Blair For PM" -

Yes, I know he's going - I had noticed. But the vitriolic British press had to be countered somehow ... somewhere. And once I had started ... well, I just couldn't really stop!
It and this video, (the singer is someone I know well) is my small contribution to arguably the best prime minister Britain has had for decades. |
