Un lujoso manuscrito medieval, llamado "Libro de la caza", que data del siglo XIV, está escrito en francés y que perteneció a los Reyes Católicos, es exhibido por el Museo y Biblioteca Morgan de la Gran Manzana desde hoy hasta el 10 de agosto próximo.
La muestra, que se ha titulado "Iluminando la caza medieval", expone al público una de las joyas medievales más apreciadas, un manuscrito de Gaston Phoebus, conde de Foix, escrito entre 1387 y 1389, y del que han sobrevivido otros 46 ejemplares.
El Museo y Biblioteca Morgan se siente "afortunado por poseer uno de los dos manuscritos más lujosamente ilustrados (de todos ellos). El otro lo tiene la Biblioteca Nacional de Francia, y ambos tienen 87 miniaturas", dijeron los organizadores sobre un texto considerado el tratado de caza más importante de la Edad Media, y punto de referencia para los europeos de la época.
"Este libro perteneció a Isabel y Fernando de España, quienes, como estaban muy orgullosos de su posesión, encargaron que se incluyera su escudo de armas al inicio del libro", dijo hoy a EFE el comisario de la exhibición, William Voelkle.
Este ejemplar, al igual que el que se conserva en París, fueron realizados en esa capital hacia 1407, probablemente por encargo del duque de Borgoña, Juan Sin Miedo, al conde Gaston de Bearn.

The Montgomery City-County Main Public Library now has free wireless Internet access and "NO AIR" at the main library Juliette Hampton Morgan Memorial Library, 245 High Street... "BUT NO AIR" you say right; so if you are thinking about visiting GO ELSE WHERE; such as: Rufus A. Lewis Regional Library, 3095 Mobile Highway which offers great help, E L Lowder Regional Library 2590 Bell Road need to learn customer service QUICK "THE SERVICE HERE IS THE WORST IN THE CITY"; Coliseum Blvd Branch Library 840 Coliseum Blvd is another branch I have come to love too visit, Rosa L. Parks Avenue Branch Library 1276 Rosa L. Parks Avenue may be a small branch but operates and welcomes everyone better than the alot of the larger branches, and Pintlala Branch Library, 255 Federal Road. True enough patrons with wireless-enabled laptop computers can access the Internet from anywhere in the building please don't attemptt to for it may be against some branches man made that were made for a certain group of people. Beware of the rules do not ask to visit common sites such as YOUTUBE, MYSPACE,FACEBOOK, or any other popular sites that you may frequent at other major libraries because you will not be allowed to. I personally have been trying to get them to allow a ARTSnCRAFT website on the level of 'cat in the hat' for more than a year now with NO success but yet if you put in the word SEX you can pull up any and everything you don't want to see which sounds kind of backwards doesn't it. For the city to consider itself to be on the move it must mean people moving because of the HEAT inside the old building and trying to get close to one of those big fans blowing out hot air. Not being able to visit common sites I say this sure doesn't help any kids or person that may want to network or even conduct business using these types of sites.

I came across this: "This is a huge step forward for the library," said Library Director Jaunita Owes. "More people will be able to access the library's databases and the Internet than ever before.".... Ok now be truthful about it and tell the public it is only called a public library but that doesn't mean the public will be able to visit common sites or even network in comfort because it is HOT AZZ, HELL in the downtown library , and that it is so FIREHOUSE hot that the city fire department left their fans to cool the place off to blow out hot air since it was so blazing hot. The Morgan Library already has a computer lab with eighteen public access computers that are very limited and is the NEW HOT BOX in town, and nine additional workstations in the Reference Department with another BIG firehouse fan blowing out hot air. Their six pc's and no fan in the Children's Department. All ten of Montgomery's public library facilities will soon offer wireless access, but don't ask to plug your system up in the sockets that you as a tax payer is paying for because it is not allowed, but it is a public library RIGHT!! LORD KNOWS I CAN GO ON AND ON ABOUT THE GOOD THINGS WITH THE SYSTEM, SUCH AS THAT FOOL YOU GOT OUT AT BELL ROAD "FROGGIE MAE"....

This is the rare song that plays during the Captain Morgan Spiced Rum commercials back in 2005. It sounds classical, like it's for a movie or something. People make the captain morgan pose while doing cool things, I guess. Anyway, it was written by Larry Hochman and just written as a generic music library piece. It has been used in Captain Morgan commercials, Hummer commercials, an FSN piece about the Yankees, and I saw it the other day on The Colbert Report for about 30 seconds.

Edward Sheriff Curtis (February 16, 1868 -- October 19, 1952) was a photographer of the American West and of Native American peoples.
Edward Curtis was born near Whitewater, Wisconsin. Around 1874 the family moved from Wisconsin to Minnesota, and Curtis built his own camera. In 1892 Edward married Clara J. Phillips. Together they had four children. In 1896 the entire family moved to a new house in Seattle
In 1895 Curtis met and photographed Princess Angeline, the daughter of Chief Sealth of Seattle. This was to be his first portrait of a Native American. In 1898 while photographing Mt. Rainier, Curtis came upon a small group of scientists. One of them was George Bird Grinnell, an expert on Native Americans. Grinnell became interested in Curtis' photography and invited him to join an expedition to photograph the Blackfeet Indians in Montana in the year 1900.
In 1906 J.P. Morgan offered Curtis $75,000 to produce a series on the North American Indian. It was to be in 20 volumes with 1,500 photographs. Curtis' goal was not just to photograph, but to document, as much American Indian (Native American) traditional life as possible before that way of life disappeared. He wrote in the introduction to his first volume in 1907: "The information that is to be gathered ... respecting the mode of life of one of the great races of mankind, must be collected at once or the opportunity will be lost." Curtis made over 10,000 wax cylinder recordings of Indian language and music. He took over 40,000 photographic images from over 80 tribes. He recorded tribal lore and history, and he described traditional foods, housing, garments, recreation, ceremonies, and funeral customs. He wrote biographical sketches of tribal leaders, and his material, in most cases, is the only recorded history.
In 1930 he published the concluding volume of The North American Indian. In total about 280 sets were sold of his now completed opus magnum
In 1935 the rights and remaining unpublished material were sold by the Morgan estate to the Charles E. Lauriat Company in Boston. This included 19 complete bound sets of The North American Indian, thousands of individual paper prints, the copper printing plates, the unbound printed pages, and the original glass-plate negatives.
The Prints and Photographs Division Curtis collection consists of more than 2,400 silver-gelatin, first generation photographic prints made from Curtis's original glass negatives. Acquired by the Library of Congress through copyright deposit from about 1900 through 1930.
Around 1970, Karl Kernberger went to Boston to search for Curtis' original copper plates and photogravures at the Charles E. Lauriat rare bookstore. The Zaplin Group owned the plates until 1982, when they sold them to a California group led by Kenneth Zerbe, the current owner of the plates.
Dr. Charles Goddard Weld purchased 110 prints that Curtis had made for his 1905-1906 exhibit and donated them to the Peabody Essex Museum, where they remain.
