American Taliban? Student's art censored by US Newspaper
Neocons claim that we have a war between US and Muslims fundamentalists, but it's really a war between Enlightenment and ALL fundamentalists-- Evangelical Christians, Jews, or Muslims.
The Hampton Roads, VA, Virginian-Pilot newspaper held its 36th annual "Student Gallery", an art contest for area students. The judges included the director of the Muscarelle Museum of Art at the College of William and Mary, and a director from the Chrysler Museum of Art. But their winning choice was rejected by the newspaper as "inappropriate" -- the 17-year-old girl who painted the portrait posed for it herself -- without clothing. "But there's nothing showing!" complained a Chrysler Museum official, but the newspaper liaison claimed the paper is "thinking about the audience, and all the kids who will see these pieces." The painting did not violate the rules of the contest. The second choice, a sculpture, was rejected by the newspaper for the same reason. Two "judges" from the newspaper awarded the $1,000 first prize to a third student. Chrysler Museum officials were so bothered by the rejection that they raised $1,000 to give to the judges' first choice, Nancy "Beth" Reid, a senior at Churchland High School in Portsmouth. Her painting is still hanging at the Chrysler. |

Introducing the AAMC '06/'68 Super Stock Hemi Barracuda "Rogue Elephant" which has separated itself from all others and stands out from the crowd with its fierce power and looks. Its aggressive stance dares to challenge anyone who stands in its way with its 510 horsepower and 525 lbs./ft. torque built for the street.
Certified All American Muscle Cars one-of-one never to be built again is a true collector's piece for any enthusiast. This vehicle, built to be driven on the street, is for anyone who wants to stand out and be noticed. A real crowd pleaser and attention getter. The "Rogue Elephant" proved its capability at its debut at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in front of a crowd of 300+ Mopar enthusiasts and DaimlerChrysler engineers. As quoted by Don Goodwin, Senior Executive V.P. "this vehicle is impeccable and a true tribute to a history making icon king of the strip."
The "Rogue Elephant" began with a solid and straight donor vehicle, an original Barracuda Formula S vehicle that was procured from Southern Motors Company in September of 2005.

Boulevard & Brezsnyev is pleased to announce Debut / Rescue, new works by American artist Joshua Birch and Daniel Turner. For the upcoming transformation of the 46 Király utca gallery space, the artist's have developed a series of work that doubles as an installation for the entire space. The five pieces on deck to be installed range from a series of monochromatic paintings, a steel barrier, life jackets, large flags, lights channeled with mirrors, and a photograph of the recent performance piece, Trans-improvisation. Birch and Turner have been collaborating on and off outside their own studio practice for the past five years. Brought together by their passion for experimenting with the energy of aesthetics, the artists have taken up residency in Budapest where the palette of found materials is a new chapter in their cross cultural experiment.
Birch and Turner have enjoyed the likes of working with a very broad range of spaces and environments; the beaches, mountains and farms of California, to the swamps of Virginia. The artists have participated in several shows at major American institutions, such as the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk Virginia, and the Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco California. Their latest work Debut / Rescue will be on display from March 19 through March 28 at Boulevard & Brezsnyev at 46 Király utca Monday through Friday 12-7.

September 2007.
Take a tour of the world's finest automobile museum -- the Mercedes-Benz Museum in the Untertürkheim district, Stuttgart, Germany!
The slick, beautiful and comprehensive museum detailing the history of the motorcar first opened in 2006, in celebration of the centenary of the company's inventions.
View over 70 historic vehicles, all restored to pristine condition. Included are Gottlieb Daimler's horseless carriage and Carl Benz's 1886 three-wheeled automobile -- two of the oldest automobiles in the world. See if you can spot the 'Popemobile' made for Pope Paul VI as well.
Learn about the history of Daimler-Benz AG, born 1926 from the merger of Daimler-Motoren-Gessellschaft and Benz & Cie., Rhein.
(Although we visited shortly after the split from Chrysler, signs with 'DaimlerChrysler' were still visible on the premises.)

Part two of our fantastic trip to New York. We bought a New York Pass for one day to visit some tourist attractions that charge entrance fees. With the pass we you sometimes can cut the line, like when we went to the Empire State Building. We bought the ticket at the news agents inside instead of queueing up outside. To bypass the long security check line, we went to see the New York Skyride, which is narrated by Kevin Bacon. Though it was cheesy sometimes, it was a more pleasurable wait than standing around the corner of the ESB, but never would have spent 23 dollars for if it weren't for the pass. The view from the ESB observation deck was stunning.
Via Grand Central station and a view of the Chrysler Building we took the subway to the Guggenheim Museum. Unfortunately they were just changing expositions and the famous building was being renovated on the outside, so kind of a waste of time. The bus took us further down to Central Park Zoo. Seeing skyscrapers in the background while you are watching the sea lions being fed was quite unusual. The penguins were adorable, so were the puffins.
A walk along the southside of Central Park, to Columbus Circle and Trump Tower brought us to the American Museum of Natural History AMNH. We specifically had interest in the dinosaur skeletons, as one knows them from movies and television.
Rockefeller Center with the statue of Prometheus was high on my to see list, as it reminds of the opening of Conan O'Brien.
The New York Pass gave us the opportunity to go to Madame Tussauds in the evening after all the museums had closed. Of course we took pictures of our favoourites, like Jennifer Aniston, Bette Midler and Andy Warhol.
After dinner, we took the Staten Island Ferry, for photo opportunities and to watch the Statue of Liberty from a nice distance (it was close enough in our busy schedule).
Last day. My feet were killing me from the previous days. I still wanted to buy some books, so we went to a couple of second hand stores near 14th Street/ Union Square and a Barnes & Noble. Stefan finally tried some hotdogs.
We ended our trip with a stroll through Central Park: Sheep Meadow, Literary Walk and Bethesda Terrace. The sun was shining. We were sorry to leave.
The pink circles show our route through New York and it's many attractions. |

1952/56 CHRYSLER "Imperial Parade Phaeton"
Used by President Dwight D. Eisenhower
In 1952 Chrysler supplied custom-built Parade Phaetons to New York, Los Angeles, and Detroit for transporting dignitaries in parades and other special events. Built on extended Crown Imperial chassis, all three returned to Chrysler in 1955 to be updated with new 1956 "Forward Look" styling.
Their striking appearance and frequent use by high-profile celebrities gained important exposure that enhanced the prestige of their production cars. Although the White House used this car, the Federal government was prevented from taking title because of its policy not to accept gifts. As a result, Chrysler retained the phaeton and it became known as "The Detroit Car" because of where it was housed when not in service.
Frequently used by President Eisenhower, it was sold out of the Chrysler motor pool in approximately 1970 and today is the only one of the original three that is privately owned. The other two are still owned and used by the Cities of New York and Los Angeles.
The car is currently (03/15/08) on display at the Peterson Automotive Museum in LA.

New York, New York, Las Vegas
New York-New York Hotel & Casino is a hotel and casino located on the famed Las Vegas Strip at 3790 Las Vegas Boulevard South, in Paradise, Nevada. It is one of the largest casinos owned by MGM Mirage
Description
New York-New York uses the New York City theme of its name in many ways. Its architecture creates an impression of the New York City skyline; the hotel includes several towers configured to resemble New York City skyscrapers, such as the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. In front of the property is a pool representing New York Harbor, with a 150 ft (46 m) tall (half-scale) replica of the Statue of Liberty, a roller coaster, and replicas of the Brooklyn Bridge, Soldiers and Sailors Monument, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Ellis Island, and Grand Central Terminal, among other well-known structures.
New York-New York at Las Vegas StripWithin the resort, particular gambling areas, bars, eating areas and meeting rooms are named after New York City neighborhoods or landmarks. The main casino area, for example, is named after Central Park, while the "Village Eateries" food court is modeled after New York City's Greenwich Village, even including real menus from New York Chinese takeout restaurants taped to the doors of the mock apartment buildings. New York-New York uses the trademarked slogan "The Greatest City in Las Vegas".
The resort is located on the northwest corner of the Tropicana - Las Vegas Boulevard intersection. At street level, pedestrians are blocked from crossing by concrete barriers. Instead, New York-New York is linked by overhead pedestrian bridges to its neighboring casinos to the south (the Excalibur, across Tropicana Avenue) and to the east (the MGM Grand, across the Strip).
[edit] History
The property opened on January 3, 1997. The project, which was first announced in 1994, was a joint venture of MGM Grand Inc. and Primadonna Resorts.
After the September 11, 2001 attacks, people spontaneously sent various tributes to New York-New York, especially T-shirts from police, fire and rescue departments around the country. These are displayed along the fence in front of the "Lady Liberty" replica. Eventually, they added a permanent memorial. The twin towers of the World Trade Center are not included in the skyscrapers depicted in its facade.
[edit] Attractions
The Roller Coaster at New York-New York, formerly known as 'Manhattan Express', travels through the property's interior and exterior, and has cars painted to resemble a traditional Checker Cab; the coaster is 203 ft (62 m) tall, has a maximum drop of 144 ft (44 m), and reaches speeds up to 67 mph (108 km/h). The ride has recently undergone a variety of enhancements including the introduction of a magnetic braking system and new trains from Premier Rides.
New York-New York is also home to Zumanity, the third show from Cirque du Soleil to take up permanent residence in the Las Vegas area and the first to be directed primarily toward adult audiences. It is the only permanent Cirque show to allow admission only to those over 18 years of age. The theatre is arranged as a cabaret, with sofas and bar stools complementing the standard theatre seats. The Master of Ceremonies for the show is Joey Arias, a drag queen hailing from New York City.
An ESPN Zone is located in the casino, accessible from street level.
For the partying crowd the New York New York offers the Coyote Ugly Saloon.
[edit] Shooting
On July 6, 2007 at approximately 12:45 AM Pacific Time, a Las Vegas resident opened fire on gambling patrons from a walkway over the casino. Five people were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Security personnel and guests tackled and subdued the man who was believed to be in his fifties. The casino remained open.

On the weekend of Feb 23 & 24th I had the chance to go to Reno NV. to do a show as part of the theater company that I am with EDDY MAY MURDER Mystery Dinner Theater company which I do acting for. We arrived in Reno and were staying at the Silver Legacy Hotel and Casino. Good grief is that one large building. Anyway we didn't know where we were going to be that evening doing the show (ie venue, room, restaurant.) It snowed about a good 4 inches by the time evening was coming upon us. We were finally told that it was going to be at the Harrah's Automotive Museum http://www.automuseum.org/ As we were walking in immediately saw all these classic cars dating back to beginning of time. They were antique, shiny, and worth lots of money. It wasn't until we go back to what was know as Galley 4, when I saw the original Bat Mobile used in the 1960's TV series.
My jaw hit the ground. I suddenly had 4 hours of all access to hang out with the icon know as the Bat Mobile. I could believe it, I was able to get up close photos in the cab like no one else could. I also had full run of the museum looking at the other 100+ classic cars. A 1938 Phantom Corsair. This car is a one of kind, it is so black and sleek, and shiny. You have to see it in real 3-d just to get a belief of how incredible it is. A 1948 Tucker which they only made 51 of. This car was unique due to it 3 head lights in front, and the head lights would turn as the car would make corners. A 1961 Roth's Beatnick Bandit, this car was kind of futuristic bubble dome on it. A 1926 Ford Fire Truck. A 1929 Ford Mail Truck. A 1941 Chrysler. An incredible Cherry Red color. This Bat Mobile is 1 of 5 that George Barris made for the series. From a few other folks who have looked at it, this one has to be 1 of the 5 form what I am told. Any way below is the slide show video that I made to share with everyone. |
