This was filmed at the end of august 2006 in Pittsburgh just outside the Andy Warhol Museum.
You will see the Andy Warhol Bridge, also known as the Seventh Street Bridge, spanning the Allegheny River in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and it's the only bridge in the United States named for a visual artist.
The bridge was renamed for Warhol on March 18, 2005, as part of the tenth anniversary celebration for the Andy Warhol Museum. The museum is nearby at 117 Sandusky Street, a street which leads to the bridge from the north side of the river |

The Warhol is ever-changing and constantly re-defining itself in relation to contemporary life, using its unique collections and dynamic, interactive programming as tools.
Located on the North Shore of Pittsburgh, The Warhol is one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh and is a collaborative project of the Carnegie Institute, Dia Center for the Arts, and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc. Opened in 1994, the Museum features extensive permanent collections of art and archives on one of the most influential American artists of the twentieth century. It is also a primary resource for anyone seeking insights into contemporary art and popular culture. |

Warhol owned a taxidermy Great Dane named Cecil, reportedly named for possible former owner Cecil B. Demille.
The stuffed dog once stood guard at the entrance to Warhol's Factory studio in New York and appeared in the artist's Pop Art portraits. Cecil is now on display at the Andy Warhol Museum.

Andy Warhol Art Exhibition Queensland Australia 2008
Exclusive to Brisbane, Australia's first major Andy Warhol retrospective brings together more than 300 works spanning all areas of his practice from the 1950s until his death in 1987 — paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, photographs, films, videos and installations.
One of the most influential and important artists of the late twentieth century and the figurehead of Pop art, Andy Warhol created some of the most recognisable images of modern culture. The exhibition includes his important 'Death in America' works; iconic images of Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Onassis, Mao Zedong and Elvis Presley; and his Campbell's soup cans. The exhibition will show for the first time in Australia Warhol's early commercial work, Interview magazine as well as his late monumental paintings. 'Andy Warhol' will also investigate how the artist represented himself through his art practice, including his Self-Portrait paintings, Time Capsules, drawings, films and videos.
In addition to works from The Andy Warhol Museum, the exhibition includes loans from the National Gallery of Australia; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo; the National Gallery of Victoria; and private collections. |

James Kalm responds to a gracious invitation from MoMA to attend the press preview of this timely exhibition. Like the coming of summer, or the swallows returning to Capistrano, the cycles in the art world have returned to focus on the practice of painting. Organized by Anne Umland, this show spotlights 50 works of art that are painting, or relate to, the question, "What is Painting?" and displays works from the museum's permanent collection. Ann Temkin, curator in the Department of Painting and Sculpture leads viewers through a brief walk-through and delivers an insightful explanation of the works. Artists represented include Francis Bacon, Robert Colescott, Gene Davis,Carroll Dunham, Wade Guyton, Al Held, Shirazeh Houshiary, Martin Kippenberger, Sherrie Levine, Andy Warhol, Agnes Martin, Elizabeth Murray et al. |

ART FAG ALERT!
No, I don't hit every line in the prose-poem verbatim.
Yes, I wrote it. It's ancient history, actually...but I chose the piece as a 'sampling of my wares'--so to speak--because it's self-contained and just under the 10 minute mark.
BACKGROUND INFO: this monologue was filmed on the day that basically determined whether or not I'd have a sample of my art hanging in the Andy Warhol museum. By "hanging," I mean via 50 inch flat-screen monitor and bitchen sound system with my monologue on endless repeat (entering the room on 'Opening Night' and hearing my far-from-soothing voice bouncing around the pristine white walls? SURREAL... and something I'm still processing.)
That Once-In-A-Lifetime pressure +
5 1/2 single-spaced pages of text?
I'm just glad I pulled it off...
And of course, exponentially more grateful to glenn kaino for including me as one of his "Uberstars" in the 8-year retrospective of his sculpture/photography in the reknown Andy Warhol museum in Pittsburgh!
I'll be servin' Catalottalisp from May 3 - August 31st, 2008 thanks to Mr. kaino and the curators' hospitality.
This clip would not exist without the camera skills of Nhat Nguyen and editing prowess of Diego Garza.
Effing PROPS, all y'all!
