Raised in Vancouver and Toronto, Severn Cullis-Suzuki has been camping and hiking all her life. When she was 9 she started the Environmental Children's Organization (ECO), a small group of children committed to learning and teaching other kids about environmental issues. They were successful in many projects before 1992, when they raised enough money to go to the UN's Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Their aim was to remind the decision-makers of who their actions or inactions would ultimately affect. The goal was reached when 12 yr old Severn closed a Plenary Session with a powerful speech that received a standing ovation.

Suzuki SV400S
スズキ株式会社は、４００ccＶ型２気筒エンジン搭載の新型スポーツバイク「ＳＶ４００／ＳＶ４００Ｓ」を、９月２８日より全国一斉に発売する。
４００ccクラスは普通二輪免許で乗れる最大クラスであり、スポーツバイクの分野で重要な市場となっている。今回発売する「ＳＶ４００／ＳＶ４００Ｓ」は、この４００ccクラスのネイキッド（車体全体を覆う風防がないタイプ）バイクにないアルミ製フレームや小型風防装備車を設定し、Ｖ型２気筒エンジンを搭載するなど新しい考え方を取り入れて開発したもの。今後４００ccクラスにおけるスズキの中核機種として拡販を図る。
主な特長は次の通り。
１． 乾燥重量１５９kgの軽さを追求した車体
・ 新設計の軽量Ｖツインエンジンを搭載し、またフレームをネイキッドタイプにはないアルミ製とするなど軽さを追求した結果、乾燥重量１５９kg（SV400）という大幅な軽量化を実現した。これにより旋回性や取り回しに優れ抜群のスポーツ性能を満喫できるバイクとした。
２． ４００cc水冷９０度ＶツインＤＯＨＣ４バルブエンジンを搭載
・ クラス最高レベルの最大トルク４．２kg-m／8000rpmを発揮する、トルクの豊かな４００cc水冷９０度Ｖツイン（Ｖ型２気筒）DOHC４バルブエンジンを搭載した。
・ また最高出力５３馬力を10500rpmの高回転域で発揮する設定とし、低中回転から高回転まで伸びのある出力特性とした。
３． 高剛性かつ軽量な楕円断面アルミトラスフレーム
・ 頑丈なトラス構造（三角形を単位とした構造）を持つ高剛性かつ軽量な楕円断面アルミトラスフレームを採用した。
４． 乗る人の好みに合わせた２タイプのバリエーションを設定
・ 乗る人の好みに合わせ、軽快なネイキッドのＳＶ４００と、小型風防を装備したスポーティなＳＶ４００Ｓを設定した。

・ 外観、装備... マルチリフレクターヘッドライトの採用など、従来のネイキッドタイプと比べ高級感のある装備とした。

・ 外観、装備... 流麗なデザインの小型風防を装備。またヘッドライトには、片側がプロジェクターランプの精悍な２灯式ヘッドライトを採用した。

日本国内での歴史
日本では1912年に日本陸軍が初めて輸入を行ない、後にサイドカーを中心として軍用車両として用いられた。一時期は国内で「陸王」の名でサイドバルブエンジン搭載の車両がライセンス生産・販売されたこともあったが、製造メーカーが倒産した後は再び代理店による輸入販売のみとなり、現在は 1989年に日本法人のハーレーダビッドソンジャパン（株）が設立され正規販売を行なっている。
同社の設立以降個人平行輸入が激減し大規模販売ルートを確立させた。各地に正規販売店、レターショップ(販売網)を置きフランチャイズ契約を行う。 それらのショップにはHOG(Harley Owners Group)Chapterを置き、ツーリングや地域活動に貢献している。

Die Suzuki BMXMasters zwischen dem 21. und 23. Juli im Kölner Jugendpark waren ein voller Erfolg. 440 Fahrer der internationalen Spitzenklasse aus 30 Ländern starteten vor über 12.000 begeisterten Besuchern und brachten die Stimmung mit ihren waghalsigen Manövern zum Brodeln.
Eines der absoluten Highlights war ohne Zweifel das Pro-Finale auf der Spine Ramp am Samstag-Abend. Die 17 Teilnehmer zeigten dem Publikum bei dieser spektakulären Disziplin BMX auf dem höchsten Niveau. Nach einigen Anläfen schaffte Phil Aller (England) tatsächlich einen schwierigen fufanu", doch Mark Webb (England) schnappte ihm den ersten Platz vor der Nase weg. Zurecht, denn er bot in Serie schier unglaubliche Tricks und riss damit neben den Zuschauern auch die Judges von ihren Plätzen.
Ebenso radikal war das Vert-Finale am Sonntag. Simon Tabron (England), Peter Geys (Belgien) sowie Condor Mat Hoffman (USA) zeigten Höchstleistungen. „Alley Oop No Hand 540", „Turndown 540" sowie "Can-Can Look-Backs" sind dabei nur ein kurzer Auszug aus ihrem Repertoire. Auch wenn Simon den Titel gewann, der weltbeste Fahrer in dieser Disziplin ist und bleibt Mat Hofmann, der nach einer vierjährigen Pause erstmals wieder an den Start ging. Mit seinen Läufen brachte er die Massen zum Toben und kam auf den zweiten Platz.
Beim Street-Contest war der Italiener Alessandro Barbero einfach nicht zu stoppen. Mit atemberaubenden Tricks räumte er die meisten Punkte ab und verwies seine Mitbewerber Chris Doyle (USA) sowie Hector Garcia (Mexiko) auf die Plätze.
Auch die Besucher im Flatland Zelt wurden im Finale am Samstag, bei dem 35 Fahrer an den Start gingen, bestens unterhalten. Justin Miller (USA) überzeugte die Juroren und landete unter anderem mit seinem „Hitchhiker to Backpacker Kickflip" auf Platz eins. Auch Martti Kuoppa (Finland) und Adam Kun (Ungarn) zeigten beeindruckende Läufe, die das Publikum folglich auch mit tosendem Beifall honorierte.
Der Dirt-Parcours kam nicht nur bei den Fahrern selbst, sondern auch bei dem Publikum besonders gut an. Denn die Sicht auf den spektakulären Parcours, der unter anderem Sprünge über fünf Erdhügel bereithielt, war für alle Zuschauer ideal. Hier zeigte der US-Amerikaner Chris Doyle seine Überlegenheit in dieser Disziplin und mit Tricks wie „one foot x-up backflip" oder „360 turndown" errang er vor Alejandro Caro aus Kolumbien und Kye Forte (England) den ersten Platz.
Neben sportlichen Höchstleistungen gab es wieder zahlreiche Rahmenevents wie zum Beispiel die internationale Grafitti Competition sowie Barbecue und Musik. Besonders gut kamen die kostenfreien Zusatzattraktionen bei den Besuchern an. Interessierte konnten sich auf einem der Suzuki-Mini-Bikes oder einem Quad im 40 mal 40 Meter großen Areal austoben, auf dem zudem ein kleines Showrennen stattfand. Auch das spektakuläre Speedboat namens Hoppetosse zog die Besucher massenweise an und sorgte für jede Menge Spaß auf dem Rhein. (www.suzuki-active.de)

The second Suzuki BMXMasters in the Cologne Youthpark was a total success.
Cologne, July 23, 2006 440 international top riders from 30 nations started at the second Suzuki BMXMasters in Cologne and enthused around 12,000 spectators.
One of the absolute highlights was without any doubt the spine ramp Pro final on Saturday evening which was held on the Braun cruZer Spine ramp. The 17 competing riders gave the public what they wanted to see -- BMX riding on the highest level. After several try's Phil Aller pulled a fufanu on the backrail of the platform. Mark Webb took the first place with incredible runs and tricks such as double tailwhip tiretab or x-up flair and impressed the spectators as well as the judges. The crowd was loud and off the hook.
