I found this 54 Studebaker in a driveway in Martinez CA. in 1999. This is the same car shown later in "My dad's old Studebaker", which, by the way, isn't really his dad's old car. His dad's car went to a close friend of mine. |

Thi is a Studebaker Avanti Promotional film from 1963. The Studebaker Avanti set all kinds of land speed records for a factory stock off the show room floor vehicles. These records remained on the books for many years. Top speed was almost 169 miles per hour. Not bad for something you could buy at your local Studebaker Dealer for 5 grand. |

Clearly not the first muscle cars on the Market, these 1964 Studebaker cars were screamers. This was the second year that Studebaker offered Avanti 289 Engines in all of their models. Like the 57 Golden Hawks and 63 Avantis, these cars were fast. David E. Davis's of Car & Drivers magazine, prediction of Studebaker cars of the future seems a bit off. |

Robin Judd and his hard working crew achieved their personal best time at the Perth Motorplex this afternoon when they ran a great 6.01 second personal best ET over the ΒΌ mile reaching 240.00 mph (386 kmh). Judd's popular 1959 Studebaker literally catapulted from one end of the racetrack to the other on the pass, and it is a credit to him and his team for all of their dedicated work, late nights, and hard efforts to achieve the result.
Judd has become a serious threat and competitor in the popular Australian Top Doorslammer bracket for many years now, and has eliminated some of the biggest players in the game with his Studebaker. The car is powered by a 511 cubic inch Keith Black engine and produces around 3500 horsepower, and today at the Perth Motorplex, everything just came together for the team making the "perfect run". The clutch settings were 100%, the fuel and ignition tune-ups were perfect, and the correct suspension settings helped everything to just come together to help the car to "squat", and perform to its best pass ever.
Judd ran 1.028 seconds to the 60 ft timers, 2.67 to the 330 ft, 3.971 to the 660 ft half-track at 190.85 mph (307 kmh), and 5.076 to the 1000 ft mark, before finally stopping the quarter mile timers in 6.015 seconds.
Judd receives support from William Buck Chartered Accountants, Melville Panel and Paint, Myaree Trimmers, Applied Automotives, Genie Exhausts, Automotive Sports Engineering, Westnet, WA Diffs, Stripemaster, Australian Drag Racing Magazine and Crane Cams. Judd would also like to thank his hard working crew and Crew Chief Lee Brailsford, James and Stuart Rowland, Eric and Frank Gauderi, Andrew Fowler, Les Davenport, his reverse gear, his family, the race-fans for their continued support, and the Perth Motorplex. |

As part of the 17th Australian National Studebaker Meet, a successful official world record attempt was raised to have the most number of World War Two Studebaker US6 trucks assembled in modern times. Seventeen US6's showed up, most of the footage here shows them going on a convoy run. The event was held on the 7th of April 2007 on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. A larger gathering of twenty US6's has been held, also in Australia, but this was not noted as an official record. (This footage taken by MJCQ member Bob). |

Okay, I wasn't going to share this video on YouTube, as I really created it more for myself. However, one of my most recent subscribers, robertmor1954 (and thank you Robert and everyone else who's subscribing!!! I love you guys!) asked to see more of the ol' beastie, so here's the video we shot on our way to go pick it up.
Here's some of the story. I'll relee a vlog this week with the details. This was my grandpa's car. He loved it; It was his baby. He always wanted to make it really special. However, in the mid-80's it was stolen and vandalized. When he recovered the car, he started to fix it, but he died before it could be completed, and the car went to sit in a field for almost two decades.
Anyway, my grandpa was and still is (aside from my wife) the best friend I ever had. He's the reason I am who I am today.
So now, I'm hoping I can realize his dream, and make his baby not only come back, but to become the show car he always wanted it to be.
In the video, you'll note that the tires were not only totally flat, but also buried several inches in the ground. It took the Explorer pulling AND me pushing to get her out of that rut.
The green thing on my head was a t-shirt gone makeshift bandana. We thought we'd have the car loaded up in a couple hours, before it got hot. 8 hours later, it was 110 degrees, and we were just getting the tires freed up.
I'll talk about it more later this week.
By the way, that hot chick with the lug wrench is Mrs. Somecallmejim. :-) |

This commercial features the Lark and Avanti. The Avanti was Studebaker's "Halo" car. It was designed to bring people into the showroom with the hopes of selling them a Lark. The list price for the Avanti was $4.445, this was Cadillac and Lincoln price territory. A mere 3,834 Avantis were produced in 1963. Raymond Lowey, the famous French Industrial Designer and a small team designed this car for Studebaker. |
