Stardust Hotel Casino Las Vegas Implosion
Time :

Stardust Las Vegas Hotel Casino Implosion 2007 filmed from the top floor of the Circus Circus Casino parking lot. This is the closest location you can get to the Stardust without actually being on the property. Thick dust came within seconds of the implosion and people started running. The problem was there's no where to run. There is one stairway and two elevators down. And there were about 300 people up there.

While we, the Vanguard University Orchestra and Jazz Band, were in Las Vegas at the Circus Circus Hotel, we were able to see the Stardust implosion right outside of our window. It was really cool. The video is a little dark though because the implosion took place at 2:30 in the morning, also this isn't the best video of the fireworks show that took place before the implosion itself.

"Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" home movie
Time :

Here is a 1960s home movie from old-time Las Vegas, Nevada. Among the pictures exhibited here are the facades of "Circus, Circus" and the "Stardust" casinos. This film shows Las Vegas as it probably looked at the time of the writing of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter S. Thompson. I believe "Circus, Circus" casino is a prominent element in the marvelous film adaptation by director Terry Gilliam and starring Johnny Depp and Benecio Del Torres. I am the owner of this home movie. The music is my original arrangement of the public domain song "Streets of Laredo".

Written by Hoagy Carmichael. He is best known for writing the melody to "Stardust" (1927), one of the most-recorded American songs of all time. Carmichael always spelled it "Star Dust", but the space is usually dispensed with. Alec Wilder, in his study of the American popular song, concluded that Hoagy Carmichael was the "most talented, inventive, sophisticated and jazz-oriented" of the hundreds of writers composing pop songs in the first half of the 20th century. Born in Bloomington, Indiana, Carmichael was the only son of Howard Clyde Carmichael and Lida Robison. He was named Hoagland after a circus troupe "The Hoaglands" who stayed at the Carmichael house during his mother's pregnancy. Howard was a horse-drawn taxi driver and electrician, and Lida a versatile pianist who played accompaniment at silent movies and for parties. The family moved frequently, as Howard sought better employment for his growing family. At six, Carmichael started to sing and play the piano, absorbing easily his mother's keyboard skills. By high school, the piano was the focus of his after-school life, and for inspiration he would listen to ragtime pianists Hank Wells and Hube Hanna. At eighteen, the small, wiry, pale Carmichael was living in Indianapolis, trying to help his family's income working in manual jobs in construction, a bicycle chain factory, and a slaughterhouse. The bleak time was partly spelled by four-handed piano duets with his mother and by his strong friendship with Reg DuValle, black bandleader and pianist known as "the elder statesman of Indiana jazz" and "the Rhythm King", who taught him piano jazz improvization. The death of his three year old sister in 1918 affected him deeply and he wrote "My sister Joanne—the victim of poverty. We couldn't afford a good doctor or good attention, and that's when I vowed I would never be broke again in my lifetime." She may have died from influenza, which had swept the world that year.[6]Carmichael earned his first money ($5.00) as a musician playing at a fraternity dance that year and began his musical career.[7] Carmichael attended Indiana University and the Indiana University School of Law, where he received his Bachelor's degree in 1925 and a law degree in 1926. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and played the piano all around the state with his "Collegians" to support his studies. He met, befriended, and played with Bix Beiderbecke, the great cornetist (and sometime pianist) and fellow Mid-westerner. Under Beiderbecke's spell, Carmichael started to play the cornet as well, but found that he didn't have the lips for it, and only played it for a short while. He was also influenced by Beiderbecke's impressionistic and classical musical ideas. On a visit to Chicago, Carmichael was introduced by Beiderbecke to Louis Armstrong, who was then playing with King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, and with whom he would collaborate later. He began to compose songs, Washboard Blues and Boneyard Shuffle for Curtis Hitch, and also Riverboat Shuffle, recorded by Beiderbecke, which became a staple of "white" jazz and Carmichael's first recorded song. After graduating in 1926, he moved to Miami to join a local law firm but failing the bar exam returned to Indiana in 1927. He joined an Indiana law firm and passed the state bar, but devoted most of his energies to music, arranging band dates, and "writing tunes". He had discovered his method of songwriting, which he described later: "You don't write melodies, you find them...If you find the beginning of a good song, and if your fingers do not stray, the melody should come out of hiding in a short time." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoagy_Carmichael

http://www.inoldlasvegas.com Tony West Music. A Historic Look at Las Vegas' Beginnings. IN OLD LAS VEGAS - ®™ - Website Preview A Photo-History of Old Las Vegas' Early Days from 1905-1975 by Erik Wunstell. My new website InOldLasVegas.com just opened. I am a photographer who has been photographing Las Vegas since 1974. I have loads of vintage, old Vegas photos that I've restored and hand-painted with my mouse (for hours on end) in order to bring the past fully back to life. I can honestly say that I am the foremost expert and historian on the 'real history' of Las Vegas and intend to present the full, complete story over the coming months. Please be sure to visit regularly to see this new website's continual growth. This WILL NOT be the corporate version of Las Vegas or the perpetuation of popular myths. Instead, InOldLasVegas.com will show and tell the unseen and unheard tale of one of the most unique destination cities in the entire world. The history of Las Vegas is a story about Design, Architecture, Signage, Advertising and Interior Decoration. It is more a story about Popular American Culture than anything else - since Las Vegas is the Showcase City for evolution in the arts, entertainment and technological fields. You won't find any stories glorifying Bugsy Seigel, the Mafia, Mob or gangsters on this website. Their contribution was nil, over-exaggerated and basically irrelevant to this city's expansion (and I'll tell you why later). Instead - this website will tell the story of the pioneers, entertainment promoters, publicity departments, ad agencies, hotel designers, sign-makers, hospitality workers, photographers, taxi drivers, strippers, burlesque dancers, tango parlor ladies, showgirls and all the thousands of people that actually had the most impact on making Las Vegas what it is today - The Entertainment Capital of the World. I'll show you the days when Las Vegas was just a whistle-stop train station, the 1905 town-lot auction, the arrival of Hoover Dam and its impact, the beginning of Glitter Gulch and the Birth and Growth of the Las Vegas Strip. There will be stories and photos of all the popular casinos and hotels...from Downtown and on the Strip (including): * 1941 El Rancho * 1942 Last Frontier * 1946 Flamingo * 1948 Thunderbird * 1952 Sahara * 1952 Sands * 1955 Royal Nevada * 1955 Dunes * 1955 Riviera * 1957 Tropicana * 1958 Stardust * 1966 Aladdin * 1966 Caesars Palace * 1968 Circus Circus * 1973 MGM Grand along with all the various expansions made to these Hotel-Casinos thru 1975. Believe me. I know the 'true history' of this town and will show and tell you most of all I know and learned over the last 38 years (plus the stories and adventures I heard driving a taxi here from 1999-2006). If you think anyone knows Las Vegas history the way I do - please think again. Casino owners, 90 year old gamblers, life long residents or even history professors and authors see Las Vegas history with a much different perspective. They view the story from the 'top down' instead of from the 'bottom up'...usually with a narrow and slanted view and without an accurate historic observation. I see it from a photographic historian's observational point-of-view and will openly show and tell you what I know. I invite you to come and take a look at the beauty of Las Vegas' past, glory days on my all-new website - InOldLasVegas.com And if you want to see what is happening in New Las Vegas, please check my WestVegas.com website for a complete guide to every hotel show, lounge and nightclub - along with photos of all the new hotels -from Wynn's Encore, the new Aladdin, Palms, Palazzo and all the rest. All India Radio - Persist
Time :

New video 'Persist' taken from All India Radio's forthcoming new album 'Fall' due for release June 08. All India Radio commissioned award winning Australian animator Lucy Dyson to create the quirky and moving video for 'Persist' based on the true story of Topsy the circus elephant. Lucy's recent projects include music videos for rising star Gotye, Dan Kelly, Bird Blobs, TZU, The Stardust Five, and an award winning music video for Sarah Blasko. About the video: On a dreary January morning in 1903, a crowd estimated at some 1,500 gathered in the off-season quiet of Coney Island, in the yet-unfinished environs of Luna Park, to witness what The New York Times termed "a rather inglorious affair." Topsy, a six-ton, 10-foot-high female Indian elephant had recently developed a bad temper, and had killed three men in as many years. They had all in one way or another abused her. Fredrick Thompson, co-owner of Luna Park and consummate showman, decided that Topsy had to be put to sleep and advertised the event. Over 1,000 people filled a Luna Park arena to watch Topsy be fed cyanide-laced carrots. The carrots had no effect. So Thompson announced that man-killer Topsy would be publicly hanged for her crimes. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals protested: Hanging was a cruel and inhuman punishment. New York had recently abandoned the gallows for the electric chair, so Thompson made plans for an electrocution. In stepped Thomas Edison. Topsy offered an opportunity that Edison couldn't resist. On Jan. 5, 1903, 1500 people, gathered to see her be put down. At 2:45pm the current was activated. For 10 seconds 6,600 volts coursed through Topsy's body. "The big beast died without a trumpet or a groan", The Commercial Advertiser noted. The New York Times added: "There had been no sound and hardly a conscious movement of the body". The elephant convulsed and dropped over, withering, dead. Thompson preserved part of Topsy's hide for an office chair. Edison's film of the event "Electrocuting an Elephant" was seen by audiences through out the United States.

Animal Abuse!! Bobby Berosini torturing, beating orangutans
Time :

a video camera hidden backstage at the Stardust hotel-casino recorded headliner Bobby Berosini hitting his orangutans across the back with a rod while handlers held the apes' hands. The treatment is repeated on tape several nights, moments before Berosini and his apes take the stage for their act of gags and tricks during the Lido de Paris floor show. An animal rights organization got hold of the tape and sent copies to primate experts around the world. Most, including famed researcher Jane Goodall, complained that it depicted gross abuse. The tape and the charges found their way onto national television, first on "Entertainment Tonight," then on the networks. Berosini, who contends that he was only "correcting" his reddish-brown, waist-high apes, is suing for slander and invasion of privacy, and seeking $80 million in damages. The chimps, that were "dumped" at the zoo, were animals used in such movies as"Planet of the Apes," with Mark Whalberg, and others. Go to www.peta.org for more information on this pretty sick act from this guy!
