Some photos in and around the Dali Museum The Dalí Theatre and Museum (Teatre-Museu Dalí in Catalan language), is a museum of the artist Salvador Dalí in his home town of Figueres, in Catalonia.
The heart of the museum was the building that housed the town's theatre when Dalí was a child, and where one of the first public exhibitions of young Dalí's art was shown. The old theater was bombed in the Spanish Civil War and remained in a state of ruin for decades until Dalí and the mayor of Figueres decided to rebuild it as a museum dedicated to the town's most famous son in 1960. The museum also occupies buildings and courtyards adjacent to the old theater building. |

Figueres (Castilian: Figueras) is the capital of the comarca (district) of Alt Empordà, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain.
The town was the birthplace of artist Salvador Dalí, and houses the Teatre-Museu Gala Salvador Dalí, a large museum designed by Dalí himself which attracts many visitors. It was also the birthplace of Narcís Monturiol i Estarriol, inventor of the first combustion powered submarine and anaerobic engine.
The city is twinned with Perpignan (Pyrénées Orientales), just over the Pyrenees in France. |

"alamat" is a story conceptualized by Patrick Almaden. It was originally staged at the Makati Parks and Garden Amphitheatre to critically acclaimed performances. It is said that it deserves a legitimate venue since it has a very good production and literary values. Moreover, it aims at giving importance to nature as an integral part of man's existence.
The 2nd run takes in Creative Directors Agnes Macabuhay- Medina and Osler Ladia who conspired with Almaden to give the concept a more refreshing and novel treatment. The word surreal came about. The likes of Salvador Dali & Magritte has inspired the artists to create the sets and costumes as something that happens only in the underworld. Strange as it may be, the play will feature characters with elements from nature but with influences of contemporary art and design. The music, composed by Paulo Almaden will exhibit acoustic sounds interspersed with ethnicity to create a fusion of music and art that make up the production. The dances, blocking, and movements are surreal as well, with movements taken from nature and animal entities.
Human elements will be supplied by Daniel and his friends, lost in the forest, where they will experience unexplained happenings around Orkidya.
The script, spiced with contemporary lingo, will also present contrast to the language of the lower gods in their domain, with rich, almost poetic candor.
The concept will enable the audience to lose themselves in enchantment as they realized the value of the environment, the importance of human life and respect for other forms of life, whether spiritual or material.
Alamat takes the centestage again this October 2007 at the Music Museum. For details pls. call 0918-2542354 and look for tope. |

Salvador DALI Monumental Collection sold to Carlos Slim's Museo Soumaya, Mexico City
38 Dali bronzes placed within the Slim collection
R&R BOND GALLERIES, the premier location for the viewing and purchase of Salvador Dali sculpture in the world has recently placed one of the most important collections on monumental sculpture by Spanish Master Salvador DALI into the collection of Carlos Slim Helú (#2 on the FORBES 500- http://www.forbes.com/lists/2008/10/billionaires08_Carlos-Slim-Helu-family_WYDJ.html)
A collection of 19 Monumental bronzes including, "Space Venus", "Dance of Time", "Space Elephant", "Cabinet Anthropomorphic", "Venus Giraffe", "Profil du Temps" and others were placed along with 19 collector-scale bronzes such as "Surrealist Piano", "Surrealist Warrior", "St. George & the Dragon", "Horse Saddled with Time" and others. This marks the largest single acquisition of Salvador Dali sculptures to date, 38 bronzes. The collection was placed as part of R&R Bond's efforts to create a bridge into the 21st century for the works of Dali, as we prepare for the 2009 release of the Salvador Dali biopic, "Dali & I: The Surreal Story", with international superstar Al Pacino in the title role.
Mr. Slim will be placing many of these works in the new Museo Soumaya whose design was recently completed by renowned Mexican Architect Fernando Romero and the Laboratory of Architecture who also completed Mr. Slim's Grupo Inbursa Headquarters and Casa Telmex in Mexico City. (www.lar-fernandoromero.com) During construction, which is set for completion in 2010, Mr. Slim will display the works throughout Mexico City as a cultural and historic exposition on this major Spanish visionary whose work formed the psychological, scientific and aesthetic basis of much of 20th and 21st Century art. The film was first shown in 1936 at Julian Levy's New York City gallery in a matinee program featuring short films from Cornell's collection. Levy called the program "Goofy Newsreels." This took place around the same time as the first surrealism exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art.
Salvador Dalí was in the audience, but halfway through the film, he knocked over the projector in a rage. "My idea for a film is exactly that, and I was going to propose it to someone who would pay to have it made," he said. "I never wrote it down or told anyone, but it is as if he had stolen it." Other versions of Dalí's accusation tend to the more poetic: "He stole it from my subconscious!" or even "He stole my dreams!"
After the Dalí incident, Cornell did not show the film again until the 1960s, when, at the behest of Jonas Mekas, it was screened again for a public audience. When the first print was made from Cornell's original in 1969, Cornell chose a 'rose' tint instead of the normal blue. (wikipedia) |

Saab 2,8 Turbo V6 (p.o.v) driving through the City of Stockholm - Sweden. In the background you hear the noise from the local Policeradio.
Stockholm ['stɔkhɔlm] is the largest city and capital of Sweden. It is the site of the national Swedish government, the parliament, and the official residence of the Swedish monarch.
Stockholm has been the political and economic centre of Sweden since the 13th century. Today Stockholm Municipality is the largest of the municipalities of Sweden, with a population of 795,163 (December 2007), and Stockholm urban area with a population of 1,252,020 (2005) is Sweden's largest continuously built-up area. The metropolitan area of Stockholm has a population of 1,949,516 (December 2007).[1] Its strategic location on several islands on the east coast of Sweden at the mouth of Lake Mälaren, by the Stockholm archipelago, has been historically important.
Stockholm is one of the most crowded museum-cities in the world with some 70 museums, visited by over 9 million people per year.
The most renowned national museum is the Nationalmuseum, with Sweden's largest collection of art: 16,000 paintings and 30,000 objects of art handicraft. The collection dates back to the days of Gustav Vasa in the 16th century, and has since been expanded with works by artists such as Rembrandt, and Antoine Watteau, as well as constituting a main part of Sweden's art heritage, manifested in the works of Alexander Roslin, Anders Zorn, Johan Tobias Sergel, Carl Larsson, Carl Fredrik Hill and Ernst Josephson.
The Museum of Modern Art, or Moderna Museet, is Sweden's national museum of modern art. It has works by famous modern artists such as Picasso and Salvador Dalí.

The Place du Tertre, is a square in Paris' XVIIIe arrondissement. Only a few streets away from Montmartre's Basilica of the Sacré Cœur and the Lapin Agile, it is the heart of the city's elevated Montmartre quarter.
With its many artists setting up their easels each day for the tourists, the Place du Tertre is a reminder of the time when Montmartre was the mecca of modern art. At the beginning of the 20th century, many penniless painters including Picasso and Utrillo were living there.
L'Espace Salvador Dalí, a museum principally dedicated to the sculpture and drawings of Salvador Dalí, can be found a few steps from Place du Tertre.

Brief documentation of the "Spellbound" video installation (aka "An Allegorical Portrait of J Robert Oppenheimer") as it appeared in the Disinformation solo exhibition at Fabrica, Brighton, Nov-Dec 2001. A written prospectus for the "Spellbound" concept was originally exhibited in paper form only in the Raphael Cartoon Room at London's Victoria and Albert Museum, before the finished work was commissioned by Fabrica. Visible in the clip are Matthew Miller, sound mirror photographer Julian Hills, Joe Banks and Paul Thomas, the voice of Ruth Jarman from the group Semiconductor (who were artists in residence during the Disinformation show) can also be heard in the background. "Spellbound" is silent, but sounds of Disinformation's "Theophany", "The Origin of Painting" and "National Grid" exhibits can all be heard. The "Spellbound" title is a homage to the imagery in Salvador Dali's dream-sequence for the Alfred Hitchcock film of the same name, and uses original photographs by JJ Mike Michnovicz and Bernard Waldman. Special thanks to Susan McCormack at the V&A, and to Jonathan Swain, Matthew Miller and Liz Whitehead of Fabrica. |
