If you've never seen Butler perform, take some time to watch the videos. It will blow you away. He creates his own musical instruments with ordinary and unusual items, and his musical abilities are also superb.
Butler has been featured in different venues, including MTV. If you remember M2 when it first came on the air there were quick clips instead of commercials featuring a man playing unusual instruments. That was Butler.

The following info is from Wikipedia ...
Another iconic display is the parallel skeleton and model of a blue whale. The display of the skeleton, weighing 10 tons and some 25m long, was only made possible in 1934 with the building of the New Whale Hall (now the Large Mammals Hall), though it had been in storage for 42 years since its stranding on sandbanks at Wexford Bay. Discussion of the idea of a life-size model also began around this time, and work was undertaken within the Whale Hall itself. Since taking a cast of such a large animal was deemed prohibitively expensive, scale models were used to meticulously piece the structure together. During construction, workmen left a trapdoor within the whale's stomach, which they would use for surreptitious cigarette breaks. Before the door was closed and sealed forever, some coins and a telephone directory were placed inside - this soon growing to an urban myth that a time capsule was left inside. The work was completed - entirely within the hall and in full view of the public - in 1938. At the time it was the largest such model in the world, at 28.3m in length, though the construction details were later borrowed by several American museums, who scaled the plans further.
The Darwin Centre is host to Archie, an 8 metre long giant squid taken alive in a fishing net near the Falkland Islands in 2004. The squid is not on general display, but stored in the large tank room in the basement of the Phase 1 building. On arrival at the museum, the specimen was immediately frozen while preparations commenced for its permanent storage. Since few complete and reasonably fresh examples of the species exist, 'wet storage' was chosen, leaving the squid undissected. A 9.45m acrylic tank was constructed (by the same team that provide tanks to Damian Hirst), and the body preserved using a mixture of formalin and saline solution.
The museum holds the remains and bones of the River Thames Whale that lost its way on 20 January 2006 and swam into the Thames. Although primarily used for research purposes, and held at the museum's storage site at Wandsworth, the skeleton has been put on temporary public display. |

Národní muzeum (NM) je přední česká muzejní instituce. Někdy se tento termín používá i pro její hlavní budovu na Václavském náměstí na Praze 1.
Muzeum bylo založeno roku 1818 pod názvem Vlastenecké muzeum v Čechách. Od roku 1848 neslo název České muzeum, v období let 1854--1919 pak Muzeum Království českého. Před postavením nové budovy muzeum sídlilo provizorně ve Šternberském (1821--1846) a Nostickém paláci (1846--1892).
Novorenesanční stavba od projektanta Josefa Schulze s centrálním prostorem Panteonu a výzdobou od umělců generace Národního divadla pochází z let 1885--1890 a tvoří dominantu celého Václavského náměstí. Projekt kladl důraz především na monumentalitu, zčásti na úkor funkčnosti.
V roce 1968 byla jeho přední fasáda poškozena střelami sovětské armády, ohroženo bylo rovněž i během výstavby pražského metra v první polovině 70. let minulého století (při výstavbě vestibulu stanice Muzeum došlo k poničení některých stěn, vestibul musel být lépe vyztužen). Budova nebyla nikdy celkově rekonstruována, na začátku 21. století je tak již ve velmi špatném stavu[1].
V roce 2006 byla muzeu přislíbena budova bývalého Federálního shromáždění[2].

The National museum (Czech: Národní muzeum) is a Czech museum institution intended to systematically establish, prepare and publicly exhibit natural scientific and historical collections. It was founded 1818 in Prague by Kašpar Maria Šternberk. Historian František Palacký was also strongly involved.
At present the National Museum shelters almost 14 million items from the area of natural history, history, arts, music and librarianship, located in tens of buildings.
The founding of the National Museum should be seen in the context of the times, where after the French Revolution, royal and private collections of art, science, and culture were being made available to the public. The beginnings of the museum can be seen as far back as 1796, when the private Society of Patriotic Friends of the Arts was founded by Count Casper Sternberk-Manderschied and a group of other prominent nobles. The avowed purpose of the society was "the renewed promotion of art and taste", and during the time of Joseph II, it would be adamantly opposed to the King. In 1800 the group founded the Academy of Fine Arts, which would train students in progressive forms of art and history.

Angefangen hat alles mit Sammlungen böhmischer Aristokraten. Einige der patriotisch gesinnten Adeligen, unter Führung des Gelehrten Paläontologen Graf Kaspar Maria von Sternberg, unterschrieben am 15. April 1818 einen Aufruf zur Gründung eines Museums, dessen Bau 1820 von der Wiener Regierung befürwortet wurde. Die neu entstandene Gesellschaft des nationalen Museum in Böhmen, als Eigentümerin und Verwalterin der Sammlungen, organisierte auch die gesamte Abwicklung aller Aufgaben. Erster Vorsitzender wurde Graf Sternberg. Eigentümerin blieb die Gesellschaft bis 1934, danach wurde die Verwaltung und das Eigentum verstaatlicht.
