Improving the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X is no easy task. It hits 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and blasts through the quarter-mile in 13.6 seconds at 101 mph.
It performs even more amazing feats when its steering wheel is turned. Physics-defying electronics and magic all-wheel-drive torque distribution help rotate this sport sedan about its axis with brilliant control and consistency. It produces a 0.99g performance on the skid pad, and that's enough grip to match the Dodge Viper and trounce no less than the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and Porsche 911 Turbo.
In other words, the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is a lot of car for $33 grand.
But for another thousand bucks it can be a lot better. All it takes are a few electronic modifications. That's where the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution by Vishnu Performance systems comes in. |

The i MiEV Sport is Mitsubishi's flagship environmentally friendly electric vehicle. Based on the i MiEV first exhibited in 2006, the Sport features an aerodynamic fastback silhouette concealing an aluminium frame.
The three motor system utilizes two in-wheel motors driving the front wheels and one powering the rear wheels for a maximum speed of 180 km/h and a driving range per charge of 200 km. It also features the S-AWC system which uses torque vectoring technology to send a different amount of torque to any wheel at any given time, which will also be present on the new Lancer Evo 10.
With a long wheel base, the battery is stored under the floor with the motor, inverter and charger beneath the luggage compartment, this layout lowers the center of gravity, optimizes weight distribution and increases the safety of the occupants in the event of a rear end collision.
Using PLC technology, which uses a household power socket as a LAN port and the indoor power wiring as LAN cable, allows the user to connect the car to their home computer to do things such as: preset vehicle recharging, update navigation systems, send or receive email and collect vehicle maintenance information.
Mitsubishi are also developing a microwave wireless charging system to make recharging more convenient, which they hope will boost the future prospect of the electric vehicle. |

This is the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. Though Mitsu has lightly disguised it as the Prototype X concept car for the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, this turbocharged, all-wheel-drive sedan is the Evo X. No doubt about it. We're so sure about it that we'll just refer to the Prototype X as the next Evo X for the rest of this report. |

Though there are no great changes to the 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse you'll see at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show, it will look more like the Evolution X — and sharing a likeness with a hero car is never a bad thing.
The split-grille schnoz that made us slightly uncomfortable in the presence of earlier Eclipse coupes and Eclipse Spyders is gone. It's replaced by the maw of Mitsubishi's new corporate trapezoidal grille. The retrofit suits the Eclipse, as if the car has always been meant to look this mouthy. On GT models, you'll also note a standard set of high-intensity-discharge headlamps — a feature never before offered on Mitsu's coupe and convertible. |
