The CMT Awards just nominated Kellie for Performance of the Year. Congrats, Kellie!
Kellie Pickler, America's small town sweetheart, sings the song she co-wrote about her mom who left when she was two.
This is one of Kellie's best performances ever of "I Wonder." The Country Music Award audience gave a standing ovation after Kellie tearfully spoke the words, "I'm in Tennessee." Kellie's little brother Eric was crying as Kellie's best friend from Albemarle held him up so he could see his big sister above the crowd. Words can hardly describe the emotion that night.
Ironically, Fox 8 in High Point, NC aired an interview with Kellie's "missing mom" Cynthia Malone on their 10 pm broadcast, just as Kellie was about to go on stage live in Nashville.

Kellie Pickler gave an exclusive gut-wrenching interview to the local ABC affiliate in Raleigh, North Carolina which aired the same day Kellie tearfully sang "I Wonder" at the Country Music Awards in Nashville.
Upset, Kellie addresses Cynthia Malone's version of what happened years ago when she left Kellie to be raised by her grandparents in Albemarle, NC. She looks directly into the camera and talks to her estranged mom.

This is a Signature Song.
Every singer/band has one.
'Bohemian Rhapsody,' simply stated, IS 'Queen.'
Kellie Pickler is the bubbly bouncy country gal who turned in good and not-so-good performances.
She was very memorable.
Very ditzy.
Very cute.
But could she pull off this Queen trademark?
I don't think she did.
But in this rare case, I don't think it matters.
The song started out ok.
She looked rather Zombie-ish, with the dark eye shadow and platinum blonde frizzy hair.
And the part where she's supposed to let loose and rip the stage apart with hardcore animal-like rage, she holds back and resorts to simple knee bouncing and angry head-shaking at Simon.
But, did we expect this to be 'great?'
Or...
Did we expect it to be Kellie?
Did we all think 'Queen' week would be the time where she had some sort of an epiphany and where she'd begin singing better?
She did what she did best: Be Herself.
And while the 'animal-like' rage was more like 'mean kitty,' it worked.

Ah, sweet lovable Kellie Pickler.
I'm probably beatng a dead horse, but my first season of Idol was Season 4.
So... seeing anyone with blonde hair and slight country twang felt like a subpar version of Carrie Underwood.
I sure as hell wasn't gonna be rootin for no wannabe Carrie.
I saw Kellie and thought: Ugh. This girl is so FAKE. Is she honestly trying to be the next Idol by being this naive twit of a Country Gal??
But she was so darn cute and ditzy...
Like a moth to a flame, I watched her cutesy antics and I wondered: What could Kellie Pickler try to pull off this time?
I don't think she was the 'best' vocalist of the season.
But she was a 'character' and those tend to do pretty well in the competition.
And she made good eye candy.
When she was good, she was great.
When she was bad, she was awful.
I like the little foxy-ness she put on this little number.
Something weird happens after the performance; some technical difficulties.
I think it was floor mic she accidently stepped on.
And that lady off stage yelled: USE YOUR HAND MIC!!

Wow. I loved this performance.
I absolutely loved it.
It was the first Kellie Pickler choice to make me go:
"Hm... she is pretty good."
She threw herself on the floor (literally), shook her head all over tha place, frazzled her hair, pointed into the camera, and sang her little heart out.
I loved everything about this one.
I loved the growling.
Loved the fire.
I loved her smart dog Comet.
And how can this be?
I've said time and time again: Kellie was one of the weaker female vocalists of the season.
So how can I come to her defense?
Well, it's complicated.
Kellie had a good voice. She didn't showcase it that much, but it was there. Somewhere. Buried beneath the Albemarle Accent.
And her Kellie-ness helped her gain a country load of fans, me being one of them.
She was likeable.
A decent voice is key, but personality is the winning factor.
You can't enter the competition and be an awful singer with a good wit; that'll get you knocked off before Top 6.
A good voice and charm?
Kellie Pickler Status.
A Great voice and Charm?
Kelly Clarkson.

Taylor Swift and Kellie Pickler are celebrating big wins from last night's Country Music Television Awards last night. Swift took two trophies including the top prize of video of the year for "Our Song." Pickler, who couldn't make the ceremony, took 3 awards including breakthrough video...which she accepted via satellite.
Other winners included the Rascal Flatts who took best group video for "Take Me There" and Sugarland who won the duo video award for "Stay." Trace Adkins also scored male video of the year for "I got My Game on" and Brad Paisley took the prize for comedy video for his song "Online."
Rob Lowe's former nanny is accusing him of sexual harassment. According to a lawsuit filed yesterday, the actor's household employee says he exposed himself to her and touched her inappropriately. This comes several days after Lowe posted a statement on a blog accusing the nanny of extortion...saying she had threatened to leak details about him and his wife unless they gave him 1.5 million dollars. The woman worked for the actor and his wife for 7 years on and off.
Pete Wentz is rejecting rumors that his fiancé Ashlee Simpson is pregnant. In an email to MTV the fall out boy bassist says the reports are crazy and it's "all news to him" if Simpson is expecting. Several publications said yesterday that sources had leaked the pregnancy. The couple announced their engagement last week.
Toni Braxton is canceling several upcoming shows to rest and recuperate. The singer reportedly called off performances in Las Vegas until at least May. She's apparently going to undergo medical tests to figure out why she has been sick lately. Braxton was hospitalized last week for chest pains. She also has spoken publicly about having a heart condition.

There were people who liked and hated Ms. Kellie Pickler.
I belonged in column 'B' for a while.
While I thought she was cute and ditzy (Lord knows I love me a floopy blonde), I kept thinking 'Carrie Underwood.'
Didn't everybody?
And since Kellie wasn't as 'great' as the winner of Season 4, I didn't feel she was any good as a contender for the title of Season 5.
Her first performance in the Top 24 was just awful. I really thought she was headed home.
But something about her slight country twang and bubbly-self kept her around.
Every season has a contestant who gets by on less-then-stellar vocals.
It's either the 'Outfits' (Ryan Starr), the 'Hair' (Sanjaya), the 'Region' (Jasmine Trias), the 'Beat Boxing' (Blake Lewis), the 'Shouting' (Taylor Hicks), the 'Sex Appeal' (Chris Richardson), The Sassy-ness (Mikalah Gordon), and you know the rest.
And sometimes, I prefer them to those who can only offer a good vocal.
Kellie's had very few 'amazing' performances.

Ah... I'm veering off course yet again.
I find it hard to stay on track writing these reviews when I can't stop thinking of crazy contestant antics.
I mean, a finalist can sing well and I could simply write a review around vocal technicalities.
But when the contestants performances are like clockwork (cute but not-the-best), I know what to expect.
She wasn't the best singer, so I could expect 'adequate' song choices and good times.
I wasn't surprised with the mediocre reviews; she wasn't going to 'magically' just start getting better.
But Kellie's personality was floopy and it was her unplanned commentary that was the star.
What she said before and after singing is what we remembered.
'Calamari' and 'Minc!!'
This night went off a hell of a lot better than what (I thought) was a poor start in the Top 24.
But that's not what we cared about.
I'm sure the singing may have been a 'small' part of the Pickler charm, but we were always hoping for another course of the 'Calamari.' |

What a funny name for a song.
And of course, every Idol critic who's seen this performance will do a play on words because of how un-great this Pickler Performance was.
'You didn't even need to bother with the Bewtiched and the Bothered did you? You could've just done Bewildered.'
Oh Simon... you're so clever...
The song started off fine, but I think towards the middle I started realizing this song wasn't going anywhere; it remained on the ground.
There was nothing special about this performance.
There was a point where Simon dropped his head in an exagerrated way, and I totally think Kellie saw it.
Her eyes looked right at him, and she did that smile we all do when we're trying to convince ourselves it's alright (that awkward grin we do when our faces blush and we want to avoid embarasssment, so we smile to show everyone we're unphased, which is totally untrue, and totally noticeable).
