James Kalm brings you along for this preview of "Shapes of Space". Guggenheim Museum Chief Curator, Nancy Spector, briefly discusses the concepts behind this exhibition and introduces the team of curatorial assistants who organized this intriguing show. For artists, space isn't the final frontier, but rather the primal frontier. "Shapes of Space" brings together examples of work from the museum's permanent collection which illuminate themes and shared responses to creating and representing space. This exhibition includes works by: Matthew Ritchie, Mark Rothko, Ad Reinhardt, Carl Andre, Tom Friedman, Roni Horn, Louise Bourgeois, Lee Bontecou, Vasily Kandinsky, Maria Elena González, Robert Gober et al. Featuring a guided tour with explanations by Assistant Curators Nat Troutman and Kevin Lotery |

Bilbao celebrated the 10th anniversary of the opening of Bilbao's Guggenheim museum Friday night. Fireworks, light and sound exhibition, inaugurated the work of Duren in La Salve bridge.
In ten years time, the Guggenheim, took Bilbao out of a difficult moment, having more than ten million visitors, putting the Basque country in a better place. |

James Kalm is pleases to bring viewers exclusive unauthorized footage of this major exhibition. Richard Prince's style is one of the most recognizable in contemporary art. Since the late seventies, with his series of appropriated advertising photos, most notably the "Marlborough Man" images, Prince has used his particular perspective to critique American culture. Much of the resonance of the work comes from his recycling and redevelopment of previous motifs repeated, like his bawdy joke lines, until they become self-referentially antonymous. James Kalm, once again, goes on the "low down" to bring viewers exclusive footage of this historical exhibition. Richard Pousette-Dart (1916-1992) was the youngest of the first generation Abstract Expressionists. With a vision that is both poetic and spiritual, typifying the American Transcendental legacy, Pousette-Dart is just beginning to receive the attention that has previously been lauded on his other, more obstreperous, contemporaries. This show traces his development from chunky cubist portraits, through his early mythic abstraction, to the heavily textured mandala like meditative forms that exemplify his mature style. Apologies for bad framing and shaky camera, which are due to security prohibition against photography. |

Taken from the top of the spiral gallery at New York's Guggenheim Museum in March 2006. I had to take this footage quickly before any of the staff spotted me as I had already had my wrist slapped earlier for taking a picture of a 'Jackson Pollock'. I had a wonderful day at the Guggenheim (and was one of the highlights of my trip to New York) and as you can see it is such a beautiful place. |
