Yes, the movie has plot holes and factual errors, but who cares - it still is an eye candy... ;-D
The fact that it was filmed in my hometown, (let's not talk about the sad truth that I didn't know that at the time *argh*) makes me somewhat biased, though. :o))
If you're looking for the cool fight scenes, keep on searching. This video doesn't include any as I've always found the actual storyline to be much more interesting than the action sequences...

La storia di un'amicizia atipica, raccontata magnificamente

Tratto dal racconto di Dick King-Smith, già autore del fortunato Babe - Maialino coraggioso e ambientato in Scozia durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, Water Horse - La leggenda degli abissi racconta la storia di una splendida quanto inusuale amicizia.
Angus, vivace ragazzino il cui padre è impegnato al fronte, trova per caso sulle rive del lago Loch Ness uno strano uovo: durante la notte nasce una creatura simile ad un dinosauro e dotata di un appetito insaziabile. Per nulla intimorito dal suo atipico aspetto, Angus battezza l'animale Crusoe ed instaura con esso uno splendido rapporto di amicizia. Purtroppo però, cannoni della Guerra incombono e anche Crusoe cresce a vista d'occhio...
Di questi tempi è raro trovare film che coniughino una sceneggiatura brillante ed effetti speciali all'avanguardia: troppo spesso infatti, i secondi tendono a soverchiare e mettere in secondo piano la prima. L'eccezione (che conferma la regola?) è data da Water Horse - La leggenda degli abissi, film british fino al midollo, che mette in scena una classica storia di amicizia "diversa", strizzando l'occhio ai classici del genere e aggiungendo un plus di simpatia ed emozioni. Come per esplorare il fondale di un lago bisogna necessariamente buttarsi in acqua infatti, anche per valutare tutti gli input e gli spunti di riflessione offerti dal film, è necessario andare a fondo nella storia: il background bellico, la nascita di una leggenda (il mostro di Lochness) , il rapporto quasi parentale tra il protagonista e la creatura, pur accennati, infatti, dimostrano che lo script di Robert Nelson Jacobs è ben più denso di quanto non si creda ad una lettura superficiale.
Se la regia di Jay Russel non appare particolarmente brillante, a permettere a Water Horse - La Leggenda degli abissi il salto di qualità sono senz'altro gli straordinari effetti speciali della Weta: Crusoe è infatti una creatura viva, pulsante, meravigliosamente animata e le due "scene madri" del film che la vedono protagonista (la corsa per la casa durante il ricevimento ed il bombardamento del lago) dimostrano l'altissimo livello raggiunto dai tecnici nel creare sequenze realistiche, in cui elementi reali e fittizi interagiscono alla perfezione.
Ottimo il cast... umano: la veterana Emily Watson offre un'altra prova di bravura, interpretando ottimamente la figura di una madre volitiva e al tempo stesso stanca della persistente minaccia imposta dalla Guerra, mentre Alex Etel dimostra nuovamente il suo talento dopo l'ottima performance di qualche anno fa nel simpatico Millions. A metà strada tra Free Willy ed E.T., Water Horse - La Leggenda degli abissi pur non offrendo nulla di particolarmente originale o innovativo riesce alla perfezione in quello che ogni film per famiglie dovrebbe avere come unico scopo: intrattenere, divertire e far riflettere. Da vedere. |

Miss Potter is a 2006 Chris Noonan film. It is a biopic of children's author and illustrator Beatrix Potter, and combines stories from her own life with animated sequences featuring characters from her stories, such as Peter Rabbit.
Scripted by Richard Maltby, Jr., the director of the Tony-winning Broadway revue, Fosse, the film stars Renée Zellweger in the title role; Ewan McGregor as her publisher and fiancé, Norman Warne; and Lloyd Owen as solicitor William Heelis. Emily Watson also stars as Warne's sister, Millie.Lucy Boynton also stars as the young beatrix potter.
It was filmed in Cecil Court, Covent Garden, the Isle of Man and the Lake District. Miss Potter was released on 29 December 2006 so that the film could compete for the 2007 Academy Awards. The film was intended to be released generally on 12 January 2007, however Variety.com reported that the Weinstein Company had decided to push a wider release date until after the Academy Awards on February 25, 2007.[1] It was felt that this strategy would give the film a chance to shine in what was already a very crowded movie season. The date seemed to fluctuate a number of times, but the Weinstein Company website ultimately listed its release date as March 9.
The film received generally positive reviews[2] and earned Zellweger her sixth Golden Globe nomination.
Early buzz was overall positive by those few who had been able to see the film during numerous sneak preview showings, but occasionally sprinkled with discussions regarding some of the historical inaccuracies in the film. There also have been both praise and criticism of the casting of this important figure in British literature with American actress Zellweger. These discussions are reminiscent of the initial uproar when Zellweger was cast in the British film role of Bridget Jones, which was developed into a sequel. Zellweger previously had co-starred with McGregor in the 2003 film Down with Love.
