It might be the lesser version of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 that we've already driven, but the 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T is still a serious muscle coupe. After all, it has a Hemi V8, too. More important, you can match it to a manual transmission. |

Everything changes; that includes the '60's muscle car era during which Norman Kraus (Mr. Norm) rocketed to Number One Dodge dealer in the world, and became known all over the country for his dealer's high-performance shop and parts department.
His newspaper ads got many a young boy (including yours truly) interested in muscle cars.
I hope he kept a few of those super-stock Chargers, Daytonas, SuperBees, Darts, and Challengers for himself; the asking prices for them are either headed for six figures or are there already.
POSTSCRIPT: A 1970 Hemi 'Cuda convertible sold at this year's Barrett-Jackson Auction for $2 MILLION. That's 2 with six zeros after it. I'm crying; I remember as a 17-year old when Mr. Norm's Sunday used-car ads listed these and Hemi Challengers, in cherry condition, for a thousand bucks. But it was the first energy crunch in '73-'74, and you couldn't give them away. How times have changed.
POST POSTSCRIPT: Thanks to a guy named Patrick Krook, I had the opportunity to interview Mr. Norm on tape June 24 at the Chrysler Show in Fox Lake (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkqyjTd6PF4). Also got to ride in my first MoPar muscle car, a '68 Plymouth GTX. Wow! |

One of our favorite moments at the 11th Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival (September 28-October 1, 2006) was the reading by Taha Muhammad Ali and Peter Cole of Taha's unpublished poem Revenge.
In 1948, Taha fled from Galilee to Lebanon with his family when their village came under heavy bombardment during the Arab-Israeli war. A year later, still a teenager, he slipped back across the border and settled in Nazareth where he still lives, now as an Israeli citizen. When he is not reading and writing poetry, he runs a souvenir shop.
As you will see from the audience reaction at the end, all of us who were there wished the deep humanity of this poem could be shared with the widest possible audience -- and this is a start.
