I think it's pretty cool. The game was develloped by Ion Storm inc. and published by Edios Interactive.
If you havnen't played the game before I suggest giving it a try. The storyline is awesome and the gameplay is pretty good. |

An error in the analysis:
When I said the picture contains the letters I,N,V,M, I was wrong. They are roman numerals, depicting the Decalogue.
An early analysis of the flashing sequence in the Deus Ex 3 trailer.
I got the names of "Studies of the Shoulder and Neck, A Study of the Spine, and Detail of Anatomical Studies of the Muscles of the Neck, Shoulder, Chest and Arm by Leonardo da Vinci, Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt, Lament For Icarus by Herbert James Draper" from the Deus Ex 3 wikipedia article.

Released in 2000, Deus Ex's depth of narrative and complexity still outshines modern shooters such as Crysis and Bioshock. Playing as UNATCO agent J.C Denton, the player must travel across the globe while unraveling a web of conspiracies that threaten the very concept of freedom. The soundtrack, composed by Alexander Brandon, Michiel van den Bos and Dan Gardopee was released with early versions of the GOTY edition of Deus Ex and masterfully complements the bleak, gritty feel of the game.

C64 Demo Deus Ex Machina (on real C64 captured with tv card).
This time I captured the demo by connecting my tv card to my real C64. No emulator used and better quality than the camrip I did last time. The sound is much better with a real C64 than with an emulator.
This Video ends with the Scroller. I will upload another video with the pictures at the end of the demo and with disabled scroller. |

As I've have said a million times before and will continue to say, the Animus series is an experimental series in which it's only purpose is for me to flex what I can do with Deus Ex filming. The series is not based on story, because it's an experimental series.
I don't want to hear your negative comments, because if you have anything besides constructive criticism, than you are a complete idiot and will be removed from all possible involvement with Global Node.
Animus Chapter I was an introduction. Animus Chapter II was a staged attack. Animus Chapter III was incredibly long takes (the film being completed in only 3 takes). Animus Chapter IV is experimenting with a funeral scene.
I've said too much already.

this cannon was a contest entry at spudfiles.com so thats why it says vote for deus ex machina at the end
Deus Ex Machina (deus ex mâchinâ) is a Latin phrase that when directly translated it means "god out of machine" the phrase is used to describe divine intervention of the gods or a supernatural change in fate
this is the name of my spud gun
it's the first spud gun to use ejecting cartridges
technical stuff: the gun is pneumatically operated and is connected to an air compressor for pneumatic tools or regulated CO2, it uses a sprinkler valve and a blowgun valve modified my me not remains open normally so air from the input goes into the sprinkler valve shuts the diaphragm while filling the chamber/stock with compressed air and when squeezed it closes off the input and releases pressure from the sprinkler valve port making the valve open
the receiver works similar to a bolt action rifle with a fixed magazine, and the cartridges eject when the rim hits a bolt screwed into the opposite side of the ejection port so they flick out of the port
you can learn more by searching the name at spudfiles.com

Deus Ex (2000) was widely praised for its melodious and ambient music which incorporates a number of genres, such as classical, jazz, and techno.
The soundtrack of Deus Ex was extolled by critics for aptly complementing the gritty and haunting atmosphere predominant throughout the game.
All listed tracks were composed by Alexander Brandon, Dan Gardopee, Michiel van den Bos and Reeves Gabrels. A compact disc of the Deus Ex soundtrack was only included in the "Game of the Year" edition and is not available for separate purchase, but all tracks are readily available on the internet. Originally only thirty tracks were included with the re-release, with tracks thirty-one through forty-one considered as extras.
During play, the music will change to a different iteration of the current song based on the player's actions. For instance, this usually occurs when the player starts a conversation, engages in combat, or transitions to the next level. |

de·us ex ma·chi·na
1 : a god introduced by means of a crane in ancient Greek and Roman drama to decide the final outcome
2 : a person or thing (as in fiction or drama) that appears or is introduced suddenly and unexpectedly and provides a contrived solution to an apparently insoluble difficulty
This is the first in a series of short silent films put to music set in nature. 'Deux Ex Machina' which loosely translates from Latin as 'God from Machine' is the title for this series. I think this is an appropriate title because nature is what God has created and I have captured it on my digital camera (the machine).
Just a forewarning about the quality of this video: No, it wasn't shot on an actual video camera and the video you see is Quicktime video (MOV) converted to the common Microsoft video format (AVI) and then layered with music and edited in Windows Movie Maker for the final product.
That is just the way my camera shoots video, so do not criticize it on quality of conversion because it looks excellent on the camera playback, but horrible after it is ported. It was also early in the evening (about 7:30), so that would explain why it is so dark. I just didn't have good lighting. Maybe next time I'll shoot earlier or find a decent portable light source.
It is also an amateur attempt to create an independent short form video like many at the Sundance film festival might enjoy. At best, I would say it fits some of the criteria to make it a 'Dogme 95' avant-garde film.
Some of my future projects may include real sound but only if I bring my mp3 player that records WAV sound along and shoot the sound simultaneously with the video (as my camera can only shoot motion picture).
Enough of the technical mumbo-jumbo, on to the director's explanation of the meaning behind the video.
Yes, the title is 'Deux Ex Machina Vol. I', but what does that mean to me? This video describes the feeling of a lucid dream. A dream in which you feel like you are actually there and interacting with your surroundings. That is why this video was shot from Point of View. The actual 'deux ex machina' described in the title is one's awakening (the device) from this dreamland. That is why you will notice me running away at the end. That is my awakening.
The song I chose for this film was 'Isobel' by one of my favorite artists, Björk. I love her music and whenever I listen to it I feel like I am being transported to another world of relaxation and happiness. The song 'Isobel' is about a girl by the same name who was born of and raised by the forest and is suddenly startled by her changing surroundings filled with modern amenities such as cities, buildings, and factories spewing filth into the sky. She is surprised and scared because it is unlike anything she has ever seen before. I think the song is appropriate because it describes the feeling of the dream scape and the harsh reality of awakening to the modern world.
As I draw to a close, I hope that everyone enjoys 'Deux Ex Machina Vol. I' and I hope that everyone will stay tuned for its inevitable sequel as well as other projects I plan to make in the future.
Thank you for watching!
Lates,
Andy ^_^

Ok, before everyone spams me with rude messages declaring planescape (Or BG2, or KOTOR, ect...) to have better moments of severe non-linearity, let me explain: Deus Ex was a shooter, and much like System Shock before it, the game was deep enough to make people confuse it with RPGs.
The moment you are watching here is one in which you are told to kill the leader of the rebel group you have been hired to eliminate. Throughout the game, you are given clues that reveal the true (insidious) nature of your employers. So, you might think...could I kill my superior officer and save the rebel leader without breaking the game?
Amazingly, you can...and the game's storyline changes because of it. I know with Bioshock it has now become old hat...but I always thought Deus Ex was a game of epic proportions that was way ahead of its time.
all useless hyperbole aside, this moment is what had sold me on the game when I first played it, and it really stands out as one of the best "non-linear" story moments in gaming. |

C64 Demo Deus Ex Machina on my real C64 - i filmed my TV while my C64 was playing the demo.
It is amazing what is possible with such a slow cpu and such a small memory.
It is funny how the flickering effects (can be seen only on the video, did not occur on the tv screen) are going with the music at the beginning.
I had to cut a bit of the beginning to fit the video into the 10 minutes limit. |

In 2004 my band recorded our first album, titled Deus ex Machina. I went back and looked at all the footage that David C. had shot and re-edited down to a more viewable length. Most of it had music already in it so I did my best to work around it. There is some music that isn't ours but a couple of the songs are from the finished CD. (FYI the bald guy is our recording engineer.) Add us on myspace.com/netzer and the cd is available at cdbaby.com/cd/netzer. |
