Other Problems: Chrysler refused to replace the transmission with a new transmission. Instead they wanted to send it to a repair shop and have it rebuilt. This was not an option for me, as my previous Dodge truck had a manual transmission that failed and I had it rebuilt. They used poor quality parts and the transmission had to be rebuilt again in less than 10,000 miles. My point about the rusted doors (see other video) is that an '01 truck should not have rusted out doors by 2006. (I've seen many of these trucks with rusted doors). Now the rear bumper is rusting out. To add to the list of woes, The AC core in the dashboard died, the power window died, I'm on my third trackbar, and the cheesy brakelines that go from the front of the truck to the back rusted out, and I had to remove the gas tank to replace them. Before replacing the gas tank, the fuel gauge was intermittent. Two months after buying the truck, the check engine light came on, due to and evaporative system problem.
Maybe all this is due to hard service this truck gets, driving back and forth to work on the highway everyday only.
All I can tell you now is the truck has 105,000 miles on it, and the transmission works flawlessly.

May 14 - Private equity firm Cerberus is to buy the majority of DaimlerChrysler's struggling Chrysler Group for $7.4 billion.The sum is a fraction of the $36 billion deal that created the transatlantic car union nine years ago. Cerberus Capital Management gets an 80.1% stake in Chrysler and its related financial services business, in a deal which will not trigger any more job cuts beyond the 13,000 announced by Chrysler in February. |

This is a 1963 Daimler 250 V8 Automatic, owned by a neighbour's son. Due to him being in Australia for many years, the car, complete with an incredibly compact 2.5 litre V8 engine, was laid up completely untouched - for 25 long years (yes - an entire quarter century) in the one place, at the back of a darkened basement - from 1982 to 2007.
This collection of shots were taken the day before it was shifted, purchased by a new owner to be restored, and placed back onto the road.
While the car's condition looked incredibly aged, I was just glad that it was parked in a dry lockup, rather than a boggy field. There are not many of these cars left, likely due to being driven incredibly hard when new, rust and being candidates (they were cheap in the 1970s) for the banger track! Appearances in TV shows like The Sweeney and The Professionals where they were often smashed up did not help much either!

This was part of the Norwich Union Rally on Sunday 14th October when nearly 700 Classic cars, starting from 6 venues, drove a 150 mile route to finish at Silverstone. The weather was perfect, the route superb, and the company marvellous.
A note to the racing pros among you -- this was my 1st time ever on a race track, and at Silverstone there are no kerbs so it is nigh impossible to see where the track goes until you're on the bend (and some of them go on and on!). I spent all the time in 3rd gear and overdrive 3rd, with a maximum of 90mph on the straight. I'll be faster next time! But listen for the rasping tyres - there wasn't much more adhesion left! |

This is the 2nd half of the 120 mile drive North West to Silverstone. Some of the roads this time are narrower and not nearly so smooth! Since a Daimler's rear suspension consists of simply 2 cart springs, when you hit a dip in the road at speed, you know all about it! They're strong though, and nothing broke! |
