1947, France is in the midst of reconstruction after the war. Although fabric is being rationed, a young designer wins the world over to his daring visions of feminine elegance. He once again establishes Paris as the capitol of fashion. His name, Christian Dior, is destined to reach the realm of myth. This man, however, who so completely changed and glamorized haute couture from 1947 to 1957, contradicts the extroverted, flamboyant image the public has of fashion designers. Christian Dior, never comfortable with his celebrity, was a reserved, conservative man who hadn't even considered working in the fashion industry. |

John Galliano's collection for Christian Dior was presented on 3 October 2006 to the usual floor of celebrities in the sombre décor of the large planks of whitened wood in the Grand Palais. John Gallaino takes us by surprise as per usual, but this time with the sombreness of his collection and with his savoir faire of the cut. Numerous, classic Dior grey, tweed suits open the catwalk, all worked in different ways, and a number of small cocktail and evening dresses are twisted and draped à la Galliano. His appearance on the podium was representative of his collection : dignified and elegant! |

By looking at the French seams and other intricacies, he learned about couture construction through the true masters of design. This hobby quickly became a collection of more than 25000 fashion items, primarily 20th century European designs, with a number of them extending back to the 1920s and 30s. "In 1968, Jackie married Greek shipping magnate, Aristotle Onassis. Onassis died in 1975, and from 1978 until her death in 1994, Jackie worked as an editor for Doubleday in New York City." "At first, I didn't quite understand why so many people were interested in seeing these clothes," says Francisco.
