NEW YORK, September 14, 2006 -- Calvin Klein's Francisco Costa took home the Designer of the Year award from the CFDA earlier this summer. That's a lot to live up to, but from the looks of his spring collection, no one put quite as much pressure on Costa as he did himself. Today, he second-guessed his way off his own forward-moving trajectory and seemed to wind up in the archives of Helmut Lang. Yes, there was a lightness to portions of this collection that recalled the work he began last year. But unlike those A-line tent dresses, the transparent fabrics he used today were shirred, pleated, tucked, and folded to the nth degree. In short, they were sorely lacking in simplicity.
A more streamlined grouping of sporty layered tank dresses, along with cropped jackets and skirts cut from tech-y fabric that resembled breathable athletic mesh had a bit more American ease. And it should be noted that the collection wasn't entirely without fabulous items. He put a great oversized black parka on Natalia Vodianova, who was back on his runway exclusively for the first time after giving birth to her second child this spring. Before starting work on next season, Costa will have to learn to trust his own proven instincts again. |

The Obsession commercial, which took just a day to shoot, aired way before the pair were well known. And although Graham admits it was a pleasant experience kissing the hunky actor, she insists Del Toro hasn't got anything on her current boyfriend Heath Ledger. She says, "It was a while ago, and Benicio's a very sexy guy, but I like my boyfriend." |

Francisco Costa's collection for Calvin Klein is all about bringing back tailoring and
avoiding looking sloppy. The construction of the clothes ... highly influenced by modern architecture... speak to this idea of sharpness. Everything from trousers to skirts to dresses is fitted precisely to the body. Fabrics like wool crepe also play an important role this season infusing pieces with stretch for comfort and allowing for easy wrinkle-free travel. Outerwear is also easy -- lots of cocoon shaped coats. Jackets have slopped shoulders and are paired with V or scoop necks. For evening, dresses are long and flowing. The palette was largely neutral from a beige suit to every shade of navy acting as the new black. |

La couleur gris khôl ultrasophistiquée domine, obsessionnelle. La silhouette prise dans une robe appuyée, ourlet largement sous le genou, délaisse les plates-formes pour les escarpins classiques, confirmant la tendance observée depuis le début de la Fashion Week. Sur la base de cette ligne 1950 entravée, Costa ménage des effets de volumes : plis soufflés, poches volumineuses au-devant dune jupe, manches dolman qui arrondissent les épaules des manteaux, ampleurs cubiques des vestes, maille généreuse au point irlandais coupée aux omoplates. Pour donner encore plus de modernité à ses silhouettes, il place des capuches, travaille tee-shirts ou jupes dans des matières stretch, pose un blouson de cuir sur un bord côtes ou ménage la surprise dune robe bustier en jersey de laine bleu lapis, « sculptée » de deux plis pincés sur les hanches Une collection élégantissime et sans faute. |
