IN THIS VIDEO, watch as the C-141 takes the stage at McGuire AFB. The first aircraft you see is the aircraft that performs the Container Delivery System demonstration (basically a container airdrop), while three C-141s make two passes with members of the 82nd Airborne exiting the aircraft. Those Starlifters go on to land and then depart (their departure is not shown), while the Starlifter that performed the CDS demo flies a short demonstration, and also doubles as the jump ship for the Wings of Blue Parachute Team.

The Ilyushin Il-76 (NATO reporting name: "Candid") is a 4-engined strategic airlifter in widespread use in eastern Europe, Asia and Africa. The aircraft was first conceived by Ilyushin in 1967 to meet a requirement for a freighter able to carry a payload of 40 tons (88,000 lb) over a range of 5,000 km (2,700 nautical miles (3,100 statute miles;) in less than six hours, able to operate from short and unprepared airstrips, and capable of coping with the worst weather conditions likely to be experienced in Siberia and the Soviet Union's arctic regions. The basic layout of the plane was similar to the U.S.-built Lockheed C-141 Starlifter, but the new design had a larger cargo hold area and more powerful engines to achieve the desired performance. It first flew on March 25, 1971, and is still in production in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. |

Swiss Raid Commando - Démonstrations
SWISS RAID COMMANDO® (SRC) is one of the most prominent, internationally recognized military sports competitions for elite troops. The event exemplifies the deserved reputations for Swiss quality, Swiss precision, and, of course, Swiss hospitality. In response to heavy demand from abroad for an airborne element in the competition, SRC has added a "Para" section to the event in addition of the regular "Raider" section. In 1997, paratroops from competing nations will fly direct to Switzerland and begin their competition with a tactical parachute jump. Current plans call for teams to jump into both land and water drop zones, in and near Lake Neuchâtel. Participating airborne teams will receive, through their embassies, one month before the competition the mission statement, Swiss Air Force aerial reconnaissance photos of the drop zones (DZs), and the time window for their drop. participating teams will thus be able to maximize the training value of the competition by planning for an actual combat deployment into the SRC. Traveling in a variety of their nations' military transports, which could include C-130 Hercules, C-141 Starlifters, and C-160, as well as helicopters, the Para teams will jump into their assigned DZs at predesignated time windows. Immediately after assembling on the DZ, Para teams will proceed directly to a Para Competition for the jumping teams, and then on to the regular Raider Competition. Non-jumping teams will begin directly with the Raider Competition. To prevent congestion and delays, non-jumping teams must select one of three staggered start times: 1330, 1630, and 1800 hours (Swiss local time) on 3 October 1997.
Swiss Defence Minister and Federal Councilor Adolf Ogi, and the Swiss Air Force are proud to contribute the famous PATROUILLE SUISSE high performance jet team to perform in the official opening celebration of the SWISS RAID COMMANDO® on Friday 3 October 1997. During the evening of Saturday 4 October 1997, there will be a party in the Colombier Castle for the SRC participants and their guests to commemorate the Raid's successful end. The weekend officially concludes with the prize awards ceremony on Sunday morning in the Colombier Castle. |
