Boeing 747 The Boeing 747, which is also known as the jumbo jet, is the largest passenger airliner in service. However, it will be surpassed by the Airbus A380 which is scheduled to enter service in late 2006. The four engine 747, produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, uses a two deck configuration where the small upper deck is usually used for business class. A typical three class layout accommodates about 400 passengers while a one class layout accommodates a maximum of 600 passengers. The hump created by the upper deck has made the 747 a highly recognizable icon of air travel.

It is designed to perform VTOL missions like a conventional helicopter while also having the long-range cruise abilities of a twin turboprop aircraft. See in the first minute or so, the helicopter takes off and than the engines are leaned forward, so it can fly horizontaly as a twin turboprop aircraft! Amazing!

READ ME FIRST: Upon attending a fund raiser for a school, I won the bid for an hour in a professional flight simulator. The joke here is that the people that go to this facility are ALL professional pilots who are getting cross-trained on different planes or re-certified. And here I am, basically walking in 'off the street', and sitting at the control console of a Boeing 747. It was an absolute incredible experience. I really have a lot of respect for commercial airline pilots, since there are many activities going on in the cockpit at the same time! I'm glad I brought the video camera, so I can share a few minutes of this exciting adventure with you all. Enjoy! Alfred

Boeing F-15 Emergency Landing
Time :
6 : 27
USAF F-15 emergency landing. The Boeing (formerly McDonnell Douglas) F-15 Eagle is an all-weather tactical fighter designed to gain and maintain air superiority in aerial combat. It was developed for the U.S. Air Force, and first flew in July 1972. The F-15E Strike Eagle derivative is an all-weather strike fighter that entered service in 1989.In the Korean War, the swept-wing F-86 Sabre was the only US fighter that could challenge and defeat the Soviets' MiG-15. Later, in 1965, the fighter community was shocked when post-Korean War era MiG-17s shot down sophisticated Mach 2 F-105 Thunderchiefs on a bombing mission over Vietnam. Air Force intelligence was later shocked to find that the Soviet Union was building a large fighter aircraft, known as the MiG-25 Foxbat. It was not known in the West at the time that the MiG-25 was designed as a high-speed interceptor, not an air superiority fighter; as such, its primary asset was speed, not maneuverability. The MiG-25's huge tailplanes and fins hinted at a very maneuverable aircraft, which worried the Air Force that its performance might be higher than its American counterparts. In reality, the MiG's large stabilizer and stabilators were necessary to prevent the aircraft from encountering inertia coupling in high-speed, high-altitude flight. The F-4 Phantom II of the USAF and US Navy was the only fighter with enough power, range and maneuverability to be given the primary task of dealing with the threat of old Soviet fighters while flying with visual engagement rules. As a matter of policy, the Phantoms could not engage targets without positive visual identification, so they could not engage targets at long ranges as designed. Medium-range AIM-7 Sparrow missiles, and to a lesser degree even the AIM-9 Sidewinder, were often unreliable and ineffective at close ranges where it was found that guns were often the only effective weapon. The Phantom did not originally have a gun, as it was intended that only missiles would be used to engage slowly moving and maneuvering Warsaw Pact bombers and fighter aircraft at longer ranges. When experience in Vietnam showed this not to be the case, attempts to use external gun pods had mixed results: not only was drag increased, but hardpoint mounting of the gun pod generated tremendous vibrations and proved too unstable for precise aiming; later a gun, the 20mm M61 Vulcan, was integrated internally into the Phantom. There was a clear need for a new fighter that overcame the close-range limitation of the Phantom while still retaining long-range air superiority. After rejecting the US Navy VFX program (which led to the F-14 Tomcat) as being unsuited to its needs, the US Air Force issued its own requirements for the FX (Fighter Experimental), a specification for a relatively lightweight air superiority fighter. Three companies submitted proposals: Fairchild Republic, North American Rockwell, and McDonnell Douglas. The Air Force announced the selection of McDonnell Douglas on December 23, 1969. The winning design resembled the twin-tailed F-14, but with fixed wings. It would not be significantly lighter or smaller than the F-4 that it was to replace. The initial version, designated F-15A for the single-seat configuration and F-15B for the twin-seat, would be powered by new Pratt & Whitney F100 engines to achieve a combat thrust-to-weight ratio in excess of 1 to 1. A proposed 25 mm Ford-Philco GAU-7 cannon with caseless ammunition was dropped in favor of the standard M61 Vulcan gun due to development problems. The F-15 retained conformal carriage of four Sparrow missiles like the Phantom. The fixed wing was put onto a flat, wide fuselage that also provided an effective wing lifting surface. Some questioned if the zoom performance of the F-15 with Sparrow missiles was enough to deal with the new threat of the high-flying MiG-25 Foxbat; its capability would eventually be demonstrated in combat. The F-15's maneuverability is derived from low wing loading (weight to wing area ratio) with a high thrust-to-weight ratio enabling the aircraft to turn tightly without losing airspeed. The F-15 can climb to 30,000 feet (10,000 m) in around 60 seconds. The thrust output of the dual engines is greater than the aircraft's weight, thus giving it the ability to accelerate in a vertical climb. The weapons and flight control systems are designed so that one person can safely and effectively perform air-to-air combat.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner Rollout 7/8/07 Mary Win's unique view

Hi Everyone, You know, even though I am a musician, I'm also a big fan of Science, Nature and Technology. So, when I heard that Boeing was going to rollout the new 787 Dreamliner and since I live just a few miles away, I just had to go. I figured that the plane's unveiling was an event that the international YouTube community would appreciate viewing. The weather was perfect (low 70's) and the crowd was large and enthusiastic. When the plane first appears in this video it is really the rollout to the "Rollout" and was filmed while it was leaving the painting facility on its way to the "Big Rollout Gala" at the assembly plant. So, as far as I know my video has the only footage on YouTube of this "pre-rollout " :) A special shout-out to my new friend Heather, whom I met today, and hails from Brisbane, Australia. Cheers, Mary Win P.S. To my subscribers who only subscribed for my music. When the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner will be unveiled on Sunday, July 8 at its official Premiere in Seattle, it will roll out with two next generation Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines - the leading powerplant for all versions of the 787. The Trent 1000's design has been focused on delivering world-best levels of fuel burn, noise and emissions. With its next generation technology and Trent pedigree, the Trent 1000 will deliver the lowest fuel burn economics over the life of the engine. Rig and engine testing have produced excellent results, and continuing introduction of new technology will ensure that the Trent 1000 delivers the lowest emissions for the 787, with significant margin to current and future legislation. With the largest fan on the 787, the Trent 1000 will also be the quietest. The Trent 1000 will also power the aircraft on its maiden flight later this year and will be the first to enter service with launch customer ANA (All Nippon Airways) in 2008.

Introduction to Boeing AH-64 Apache (Part2)
Time :
3 : 14
The United States Army issued a request for proposals (RFP) in 1972 for an Advanced Attack Helicopter (AAH). From an initial list of 5 manufacturers, Boeing-Vertol, Bell, Hughes, Lockheed, and Sikorsky, the finalists selected were Hughes Aircraft's Toolco Aircraft Division (later Hughes Helicopters) and Bell. Hughes' Model 77/YAH-64 was selected over Bell's Model 409/YAH-63 in 1976. First flight of a development prototype occurred on September 30, 1975 but it was not until 1982 that a production contract was signed. In 1983 the first production helicopter was rolled out at Hughes Helicopter's facility at Mesa, Arizona. In 1984 Hughes Helicopters was purchased by McDonnell Douglas for $500 million. Hughes later became part of The Boeing Company with the merger of Boeing and McDonnell Douglas in August 1997.
Story of Boeing's Hydrogen Fuel Cell Aircraft
Time :
1 : 59
Boeing has flown a manned aircraft on hydrogen fuel cell power. The full text of Boeing's release follows: MADRID, Spain, April 03, 2008 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] announced today that it has, for the first time in aviation history, flown a manned airplane powered by hydrogen fuel cells. The recent milestone is the work of an engineering team at Boeing Research & Technology Europe (BR&TE) in Madrid, with assistance from industry partners in Austria, France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. "Boeing is actively working to develop new technologies for environmentally progressive aerospace products," said Francisco Escarti, BR&TE's managing director. "We are proud of our pioneering work during the past five years on the Fuel Cell Demonstrator Airplane project. It is a tangible example of how we are exploring future leaps in environmental performance, as well as a credit to the talents and innovative spirit of our team." A fuel cell is an electrochemical device that converts hydrogen directly into electricity and heat with none of the products of combustion such as carbon dioxide. Other than heat, water is its only exhaust. A two-seat Dimona motor-glider with a 16.3 meter (53.5 foot) wingspan was used as the airframe. Built by Diamond Aircraft Industries of Austria, it was modified by BR&TE to include a Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell/lithium-ion battery hybrid system to power an electric motor coupled to a conventional propeller. Three test flights took place in February and March at the airfield in Ocaña, south of Madrid, operated by the Spanish company SENASA. During the flights, the pilot of the experimental airplane climbed to an altitude of 1,000 meters (3,300 feet) above sea level using a combination of battery power and power generated by hydrogen fuel cells. Then, after reaching the cruise altitude and disconnecting the batteries, the pilot flew straight and level at a cruising speed of 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour) for approximately 20 minutes on power solely generated by the fuel cells. According to Boeing researchers, PEM fuel cell technology potentially could power small manned and unmanned air vehicles. Over the longer term, solid oxide fuel cells could be applied to secondary power-generating systems, such as auxiliary power units for large commercial airplanes. Boeing does not envision that fuel cells will ever provide primary power for large passenger airplanes, but the company will continue to investigate their potential, as well as other sustainable alternative fuel and energy sources that improve environmental performance. BR&TE, part of the Boeing Phantom Works advanced R&D unit, has worked closely with Boeing Commercial Airplanes and a network of partners since 2003 to design, assemble and fly the experimental craft. The group of companies, universities and institutions participating in this project includes: Austria -- Diamond Aircraft Industries France -- SAFT France Germany -- Gore an
