It was the heaviest aircraft of the whole war, beating out even the B-29 by many tons, and physically was the largest aircraft produced by any of the Axis powers in World War II. The Bv 238 V1 prototype first flew on March 11, 1944 after a first jump on March 10th, 1944. Six 1750 hp (1.287 MW) DB 603 V engines built by Daimler-Benz were used in total, arranged in three forward facing integrated engine nacelles in a row on each wing. |

The Blohm und Voss BV 138 was officially named 'Seedrache' (Sea Dragon) but with the unusual configuration of a three engined flying boat with a short hull, high mounted wings and two tail unit beams it quickly became known as "The Flying Clog". The BV 138 was first flown in 1937 and was used by the Luftwaffe all over Europe, the Baltic Sea and Scandinavia - often flying for hours far out over the sea in search of allied convoys. This long-range maritime reconnaissance flying boat was utilized until the end of the war not only for anti-shipping but also for personnel transports whereby ten fully equipped infantry troops could be carried which actually required no modification of the plane. The Luftwaffe's famous special-operations unit, KG 200, used one for this purpose. Fully loaded it could fly over 4000 kilometers and stay up for 16 hours. This range could be increased even further when using RATO packs (Rocket Assisted Take-offs) or when launched from catapults on board seaplane tenders. |

Robert Blohm (born Trenton, New Jersey) is an American and Canadian investment banker, economist and statistician. He helped expand the Japanese capital market in the 1980s to Canadian governments, corporations, utilities and banks. In the early 1990s he argued widely in the US and Canadian press against the economic feasibility of Quebec's separation from Canada, particularly in a series of opinion articles in The Wall Street Journal. He coined the term "the internet economy" in a Wall Street Journal opinion article by that title in 1996. In the later 1990s he published articles in the general and trade press against restructuring the wholesale electric industry into a centralized spot market, and this led to collapse of the California electricity market in 2001 and abandonment of that policy by US, Canadian and Japanese regulators. Blohm has since helped the North American Electric Reliability Council develop risk-based standards for reliably operating the electric system in a competitive market. Robert Blohm is listed in Who's Who in America , Who's Who in the World , Who's Who in Finance and Business. |

Die Maxim Gorkiy (benannt nach dem russischen Schriftsteller Maxim Gorki) ist jetzt ein russisches Kreuzfahrtschiff der Moskauer Reederei Sovcomflot im langjährigen Charter der Phoenix Reisen in Bonn. Sie wurde 1968 im Auftrag der Deutschen Atlantic Linie von der Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG in Hamburg erbaut und konnte 1969 ihre Jungfernfahrt unter dem Namen TS „Hamburg" antreten.
Nach dem Scheitern der Verbindungsverhandlungen von der in Liquiditätsschwierigkeiten -- enormer Kostendruck nach der Ölkrise 1973 -- steckenden Reederei Deutsche Atlantic Linie mit der Hapag-Lloyd erhielt die „Hamburg" 1973 zum Verkauf den traditionsreicheren Namen „Hanseatic". Noch während der Verkaufsverhandlungen mit der Hapag-Llyod über 25 Millionen Euro erreichte ein höheres japanisches Angebot über 34 Millionen Euro die Hamburger Reederei.
Nach deren Insolvenz am 1. Dezember sollte die „Hanseatic" (die dritte dieses Namens) nach Japan verkauft werden, doch der unterschriftsreife Vertrag kam nicht zustande und so wurde sie für rund 31 Millionen Euro zur Deckung von Verbindlichkeiten in die USA abgegeben. Dahinter stand aber die sowjetische Staatsreederei, die das Schiff am 25. Januar 1974 unter dem heutigen Namen „Maxim Gorkiy" (zu Ehren des russischen Schriftstellers) an die Black Sea Shipping Co. übergab.
Seit 2006 fährt die „Maxim Gorkiy" ohne den roten Stern am Bug. Am Schornstein wurde das Logo der russischen Reederei entfernt und durch das Wappentier von Phoenix Reisen -- den Albatros -- ersetzt. Außerdem erhielt sie statt der bisherigen roten eine türkisfarbene „Bauchbinde".
1974 war sie Drehort des britischen Thrillers „18 Stunden bis zur Ewigkeit", in dem sie unter dem Film-Namen „Britannic" Schauplatz einer Erpressung war.
Historische Bedeutung erlangte das Schiff nach dem Mauerfall (9. November) durch das Gipfeltreffen des US-Präsidenten George H. W. Bush mit dem sowjetischen Staatschef Michail Sergejewitsch Gorbatschow zum Abschluss eines Abrüstungsabkommens im Dezember 1989 an Bord vor der Mittelmeerinsel Malta.
Die Maxim Gorkiy wurde ebenfalls durch die Medien bekannt, als sie wenige Monate zuvor im Juni 1989 im Nordmeer vor Spitzbergen in ein Treibeisfeld fuhr und havarierte. Alle Passagiere konnten gerettet werden. Das Schiff drohte zu sinken und konnte nach einer notdürftigen Reparatur zwei Wochen später mit eigener Kraft die Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven anlaufen. Hier wurde sie sechs Wochen überholt und befährt noch heute die Weltmeere.
Im November 2007 wurde angekündigt, das Schiff zum 30. November 2008 außer Dienst zu stellen. Grund hierfür sind vor allem die hohen Betriebskosten, die hauptsächlich auf den Dampfturbinenantrieb zurückzuführen sind. Über den weiteren Verbleib des Schiffes ist derzeit noch nichts bekannt. |

In December 2001, Germany placed an order for five K130 corvettes based on the MEKO A design from the Arge K130 consortium. The Arge K130 consortium consists of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems Blohm +Voss in Hamburg (lead yard) and Nordseewerke in Emden, with Friedrich Lurssen Werft based in Bremen.
The corvettes replace the German Navy's Tiger Class and Albatross Class missile fast patrol boats which no longer meet operational requirements. The K130 corvettes will be based at Warnemunde.
Keel-laying of the first of five new K130 corvettes for the German Navy began in December 2003. The first and the fourth corvette were built by Blohm + Voss, the second and fifth by Lürssen and the third by Nordseewerke.

Am 19.04.2006 wurde die erste Korvette für die Deutsche Marine bei der BLOHM + VOSS in Hamburg auf den Namen BRAUNSCHWEIG getauft.
Fast auf den Tag genau erfolgte zwei Jahre später die Indienststellung.
Das lange Warten hat nun bald ein Ende.
Das 1. Korvettengeschwader wurde am 26.06.2006 in Warmemünde in Dienst gestellt.
Erste Einheit war der Tender DONAU A 516.
Am 11.08.2008 brach dieser östliches Mittelmeer auf um an der UN-Mission UNIFIL teilzunehmen.
Fast ein halbes Jahr später kam er heim und wurde von der Korvette BRAUNSCHWEIG überfreudigst empfangen.

The German Bo-105 is a light twin engine multi purpose utility helicopter initially developed by Bölkow, and then built by Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm (MBB) which now belongs to the Eurocopter Group. Eurocopter sold the Bo 105 until 1997. It was replaced by the new EC 135.
Being the first light twin-engined helicopter in commercial service, it gained widespread use over rural areas (police and EMS / medevac) as well as offshore.The four-blade hingeless main rotor with composite blades ensures high maneuverability. All main systems (hydraulics, electric, fuel, lubrication) were designed to be fully redundant. |
