The Continental GT Speed is the most powerful production Bentley ever and the first to top 200mph (322km/h). A potent addition to the company's highly successful Continental series, the GT Speed extends the appeal of the Continental GT coupe to driving enthusiasts who place a high value on outright performance and agile handling.
The exterior style of the new Continental GT and GT Speed models is defined by a wider, lower air intake and more upright radiator grille that also provide increased airflow to the more powerful GT Speed. Its 600bhp (610PS) W12 engine develops 15 percent more torque and nine percent more power than the standard Continental GT, while engine efficiency is optimised by the use of lower friction, lighter-weight components and a new engine management system. The resultant performance is exceptional, with a top speed of 202mph (326km/h), a zero to 60mph sprint time of just 4.3 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.5s) and effortless overtaking capability.
Complementing the Continental GT Speed's high performance is its unique chassis tune that delivers tauter handling and improved agility, with new, wider 9.5J 20-inch wheels and bespoke performance tyres as standard fitment. Fade-resistant carbon ceramic brakes are available as an option. Subtle design touches, including a dark-tinted front grille and larger sports tailpipes, reinforce the sporting character of the Continental GT Speed.
Inspiration for the GT Speed came from the legendary 'Speed' models that first appeared in 1923. The standard Bentley 3-litre had already established Bentley's engineering superiority in terms of roadholding, handling and braking, but W.O. Bentley, the company's founder, recognised the market potential for a more potent version aimed at the enthusiast driver who demanded superior performance. His response, the 3-litre 'Speed Model', complete with twin SU carburettors and a higher compression ratio engine, became one of the most coveted of all Bentleys.
Both the GT Speed and the 552bhp (560PS) Continental GT benefit from internal efficiency improvements to deliver reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The Continental GT remains outstandingly quick -- its top speed is unchanged at 198mph (318km/h), with a 0-60mph sprint time of 4.6 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.8s).
The all-wheel drive Continental GT changed the face of the luxury coupe market and attracted a wider audience to the Bentley marque. It also represented the first step in Bentley's renaissance, positioning the company at the pinnacle of both technology and consumer aspiration. Since its launch, demand for a sportier version of the Continental GT was met by the successful introduction of the 2005 GT Mulliner Driving Specification and the limited edition GT Diamond Series in 2006, to celebrate 60 years of Bentley at Crewe. Now, with the launch of the Continental GT Speed, customers will enjoy even greater choice. Fonzworth Bentley (b. February 13, 1974) formerly known as Farnsworth Bentley, is a hip hop artist, entertainer, and fashion designer, best known for being a personal assistant to American celebrity Sean "Diddy" Combs. Bentley now markets his own line of umbrellas.
Bentley was born Derek Watkins in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended North Atlanta High School. He is a graduate of Morehouse College with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. His younger brother, Dion, is a recent graduate of University of Southern California's film school. His cousin, Jonathan Watkins plays in the drumline at Auburn University. His uncle, a band director, played him Beethoven's 5th Symphony at 18 months and, by the time Watkins was 2-1/2 years old, he was learning to play violin via the Suzuki method. He would later become concert master in his high school orchestra. Watkins gained an appreciated for dance and fashion in Atlanta. After graduating from Morehouse, with a bachelor of science degree, he took a job at a local Polo store in Atlanta where his customers included his childhood friend Andre 3000 of Outkast and future employer Sean "P. Diddy" Combs. When offered a job at The Polo Mansion, Watkins relocated to New York City, where he encountered Combs. After leaving Polo, Watkins became an apprentice for designer Alan Flusser. Later he was maitre d' at a New York restaurant. Watkins later reconsidered his position as maitre d' and sought a career in entertainment. He was later hired as Combs' personal assistant. Watkins worked for Combs for two years. In 2002 he resigned as Combs' personal assistant to pursue an acting career.
In 2003, Bentley was featured on the "Good Day, Good Sir" skit on OutKast's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. In 2005, he was featured on a remix of Kanye West's "New Workout Plan". He is currently signed to West's GOOD Music label.

The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Bentley's Gonna Sort You Out!' by Bentley Rhythm Ace.
"Bentley Rhythm Ace (BRA) is a band formed in birmingham, england in the late 1990s, by former members of the band Pop Will Eat Itself, with guest appearances by Milf, a member of indie band EMF.
Their self-titled debut ('Bentley Rhythm Ace') was released in 1997 and spawned the hugely popular single 'Bentley's Gonna Sort You Out'. A second album, 'For Your Ears Only', was released in 2000 but was less popular. A further single 'Madam, Your Carriage Awaits' was released. The group also compiled a 2CD 'FSUK' compilation (FSUK 3 (Mixed by Bentley Rhythm Ace) (disc 1); FSUK 3 (Mixed by Bentley Rhythm Ace) (disc 2)).
The name likely refers to the Rhythm Ace line of analogue drum machines manufactured by Ace Tone, some of which were rebranded and distributed by Bentley Pianos in the uk.
The group epitomises the big beat era. Signed to skint records, they have enjoyed much commercial success with their music being used on television advertisements and with an enormous underground following.
The group have all but split, playing the occasional low-key DJ set and have released no further material since 2000."

Earlene Bentley returns with the fabulous "Ashes To Ashes". This is one of the key songs from our album, "Northern Soul 2007", which we released last September on Centre City Records and is still available to buy. There are still some small minded people who call themselves fans of Northern Soul who refuse to accept that anybody can make a new record that sounds like the real thing. Well if this isn't Northern Soul, then I'm a country and western singer from Outer Mongolia. This to me is the real McCoy, and I am so proud and excited with it. On September 3rd 2007, we finally released my utterly fabulous exciting new album called "Northern Soul 2007", distributed by Expansion Records and Passion Music. This new album consisted of twenty four brand new 2007 songs by soul and disco legends, including Leee John, Gee Morris, The Flirtations, Voices With Soul, Ebony Alleyne, Noel McKoy, and lots of others. Each song has an accompanying video of the artist basically performing it the studio and in outside locations. Because a lot of my fans on MySpace and YouTube have been begging me to do this, I decided to get up and make it happen, so there is a giveaway DVD with the CD showing the same twenty-some songs, all being performed in the same running order as the CD. The work that we have all put into this project is quite staggering, and I hope it will break down the barriers between the older Northern Soul stalwarts and a new generation who need younger acts who still produce the same vibe we all witnessed forty years ago for Motown's glory years. Play the CD, watch the DVD, and give new Northern Soul a chance this time. This is by Earlene Bentley, the utterly outrageous New York Diva, and best friend of Miquel Brown. Earlene's first song for Record Shack, "The Boys Come To Town" was featured in the movie "Police Academy". Three more classic twelve inches followed, "I'm Living My Own Life", "Caught In The Act" and "Stargazing" which was a duet with the late great Sylvester. Then "Point Of No Return" saw her in much more mellow soulful form, and very unlike the big Record Shack high energy classics. I was pestered for months, by all the High Energy fans, to put up videos of her big four twelve inch songs from the Record Shack days, but as "Caught In The Act" was the only one ever filmed, and all that footage is lost forever, and Earlene always refused to revisit her old songs, that always seemed impossible. Now thankfully, the grand diva herself had a change of mind, and we put a video of it here on YouTube, and just think - it only took twenty three years for us to bring it to you. We already posted up the song, "Water Under The Bridge", which has to be her best recording ever, we think. But "Ashes To Ashes" has grown and grown on us all, till we all now like it just as much. |
