According to will.i.am, founding member and frontman of Black Eyed Peas, the "Yes We Can Song" was inspired by Senator Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign and especially the speech Obama gave following the New Hampshire primary. He states, "It made me reflect on the freedoms I have, going to school where I went to school, and the people that came before Obama like Martin Luther King, presidents like Abraham Lincoln that paved the way for me. . . ." Dylan says, "The speech was inspiring about making change in America and I believe what it says and I hope everybody votes."
The music video includes excerpts from Obama's speech and appearances from several celebrities: Scarlett Johansson, John Legend, Herbie Hancock, Kate Walsh, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Adam Rodriquez, Kelly Hu, Adam Rodriquez, Amber Valetta, and Nick Cannon. Celebrity-filled music videos have been used to support many social movements, from famine relief for Africa, to support for American farmers, to opposition to apartheid in South Africa.
But rarely have celebrities and musicians banded together to create new music in the heat of a presidential campaign.
The Black Eyed Peas' frontman, songwriter and producer known as will.i.am, along with director and filmmaker Jesse Dylan, son of another socially active musician, Bob Dylan, released a new song Friday that attempts to do just that.
The music video "Yes We Can" premiered on ABCNewsNow's "What's the Buzz" on Friday. It was inspired, will.i.am told ABC's Alisha Davis, by Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign and in particular by the speech he has gave after the New Hampshire primary.

When word got out about the song, will.i.am and Dylan said people were eager to participate.

Dylan and will.i.am say they did not coordinate the production or release of this video with the Obama campaign and the filmmakers say they don't even know if Obama is aware of the video.

Yes, We Can! - Si, Se Puede!
Celebrity-filled music videos have been used to support many social movements, from famine relief for Africa, to support for American farmers, to opposition to apartheid in South Africa. But rarely have celebrities and musicians banded together to create new music in the heat of a presidential campaign.
The music video "Yes We Can" premiered on Friday, February 1st, 2008. It was inspired, will.i.am told ABC's Alisha Davis, by Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign and in particular by the speech he has gave after the New Hampshire primary.
Celebrities featured include: will.i.am, Scarlett Johansson, Kelly Hu, Tatyana Ali, John Legend, Adam Rodriquez, Herbie Hancock, Kate Walsh, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Adam Rodriquez, Amber Valetta and Nick Cannon

Bimba Bosé participa con la ONG "Oceana".
Ella misma nos explica esa labor: "Es una fundación internacional, creada en EEUU, que se dedica a la investigación y la protección de los océanos mediante el impulso de leyes, la vigilancia de su cumplimiento y la educación de la ciudadanía".
Viaje hasta Palma de Mallorca, donde el biólogo marino Xavier Pastor, uno de los fundadores de Greenpeace en España, nos espera a bordo del 'Oceana Ranger', el buque insignia de la ONG. El 'Ranger', un catamarán de 23,5 metros de eslora y 10,5 de manga, es un ecosistema sostenible en sí mismo. Su labor investigadora se centra en auscultar el fondo marino para determinar el avance de su deterioro y los posibles caminos para evitarlo. Dispone de un robot que, conectado a un ordenador, recoge todo tipo de información para su posterior estudio.
La modelo, convertida en sirena con traje de neopreno, acompaña durante unos días a la tripulación de buzos, científicos y marineros que en este momento desarrollan una expedición que comenzó el 8 de mayo en Tarragona y terminará en septiembre. "Su labor consiste en documentar sus exploraciones con vídeo y fotos, apenas toman muestras físicas. Son tan respetuosos con los fondos marinos que hemos estado dando vueltas durante media hora en busca del lugar idóneo, donde no haya algas, para echar el ancla", cuenta Bimba.
Luego, el material se analiza para elaborar informes que sirvan a los poderes públicos encargados de desarrollar leyes de protección medioambiental. Las propuestas de Oceana son muy específicas. Sus científicos han podido comprobar que la captura accidental de tortugas se evitaría si los pescadores dejaran de lanzar sus redes a la luz del día y si utilizaran anzuelos redondos, de los que puede liberar con facilidad. Cada año, 25.000 ejemplares agonizan de esta forma absurda.
Tras recibir unas clases de buceo, Bimba se sumerge en las aguas del Mediterráneo. Sólo entonces puede apreciar las nefastas consecuencias para el mundo submarino: "Es alucinante acercarse a la vida que hay bajo el mar. Cuando estás allí, ves perfectamente cómo las anclas de los yates dejan marcas en las praderas de algas o rompen los corales".
Unos ponen el talento y otros, como Bimba, Miguel Bosé, los actores Antonio Banderas, Pierce Brosnan o Ted Danson ('Cheers') o la modelo Amber Valetta, su imagen y compromiso. Son personajes públicos "que ayudan a que nuestras denuncias tengan mayor repercusión y multiplican por mil el resultado de nuestro trabajo", destaca en la cubierta del 'Ranger' María Eugenia Girón, miembro de la junta directiva internacional y responsable de la implicación de Bimba.
