The Western Development Museum in Saskatoon represents the 1910 Boomtown Era. This museum has reconstructed a typical main street from a thriving prairie town during this era. Walk through 1910 Boomtown and visit old time shops, churches, doctor's offices and banks. Each building is filled with antiques that would have been in service in 1910. In behind the main street is a comprehensive collection of massive farm machinery in the agricultural and transportation galleries that complement the main museum. |

The Astra Folk Civilization Museum is located four kilometers from Sibiu in the middle of a 993 ha reservation. The reservation also holds a 16 ha lake. This place occupying 100 ha is a real folk museum. 340 country houses had been brought here from all over the country, with original sets of furniture, tools of handicraftsman and former means of transportation. The 35.240 folk pieces help us see way rural people did agriculture, stock-breeding, apiculture, fishing and hunting. A special space is accorded for the display of the former mills(hand, wind, water, animal operated mills). Enjoy!! Video Edit: DiazSprite |

Another clip of Elizabeth (aka "Lily Goodluck" aka "The Purple Jester" of LRF fame) Ceili dancing on Saturday night at the Mississippi Kelt Fest. The Fest was held on the grounds of the Mississippi Agricultural Museum in Jackson, Mississippi, on 7-9 September 2007. The dance ran from 8pm to midnight, but Elizabeth only danced three high-energy, foot-stomping sets that evening! In this clip, Elizabeth joined a side-stepping line dance taking the gentleman's role as there just weren't enough young men willing to dance. For more views of Elizabeth dancing the night away, check out the other two "just Ceili" clips, here on YouTube! To learn more about the Mississippi Keltic Fest, go to www.celticfestms.org |

To create a children's ... (more)
Added: December 20, 2007
It started with a dream.
To create a children's museum: a magical and inviting place for young people that would stir their curiosity and imagination. In this quickly moving world of technology, children's museums give families an opportunity to slow down and actively share in their children's growth. These wonderful places of discovery are designed to provide interactive experiences that foster curiosity in children and create a lifelong love of self-directed learning. The Children's Museum of the East End (CMEE - we pronounce it "see me") was formed to make this dream a reality.
In 1997, CMEE launched a pilot project exhibit to gauge community interest in a children's museum on the East End of Long Island. The exhibit was built with the volunteer efforts of many talented carpenters, artists, and educators, and the generous support of local businesses and families. In just fourteen weeks at Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton, a record-breaking five thousand people visited the exhibit and supported the belief that the East End needs a children's museum.
The 10,000 square foot facility was designed by Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership. This team has created over fifty children's museum projects throughout the country and is responsible for the outstanding design of the pilot project. Also contributing to the project was renowned landscape architect Edmund Hollander.
Interactive exhibits are both permanent and rotating. The permanent exhibit focuses on what makes the East End a special place, with an emphasis on the people and living creatures who inhabit it. Themes include agriculture, fishing, world celebrations, and community.
In addition to the indoor activities, visitors are encouraged to explore outdoor exhibits, mazes and gardens. There is space for year-round workshops, performances, and special events, as well as a permanent art workshop for children to explore their own creativity.

The dance ran four hours from 8pm to midnight, but Elizabeth only participated in three high-energy, foot-stomping sets that evening. Manali, (alt. 1,950 m or 6,398 ft) in the Beas River valley, is an important hill station in the Himalayan mountains of Himachal Pradesh, India, near the northern end of the Kullu Valley. It is administratively a part of the Kullu District. The population is approx. 30,000. The small town was the beginning of an ancient trade route to Ladakh and, from there, over the Karakoram Pass on to Yarkand and Khotan in the Tarim Basin. Manali and its surrounding areas are of great significance to the Indian culture and heritage as it was the home and abode of the Saptarshi or seven sages. The ancient cave temple, Hidimba Devi Temple, is not far from town.
In ancient times, the valley was sparsely populated by nomadic hunters known as "rakshas". The next arrivals were the shepherds who arrived from the Kangra valley and settled to take up agriculture. Some of the earliest inhabitants of the region are the 'naur' or 'nar' which is a caste unique to the Kullu valley. Only a few naur families are known to exist now. A naur family in the village Soyal near Haripur on the west bank of Manali was famous for the vast land they owned and their practice of having 'rakshas' as their labourers.
The British were responsible for introducing apples and trout which were not native to Manali. It is said that when apple trees were first planted the fruits were so plentiful that often branches, unable to bear the weight would collapse. To this day apple along with plum and pear remains the best source of income for the majority of its inhabitants.
Tourism in Manali received a real boost after the rise of militancy in Kashmir in the late 1980s. This once quiet village was transformed into a bustling town with hundreds of hotels and restaurants.
Manali is also the name of an old district of Armenia c. 400-800
Many films have been shot in Manali including Henna, Laal Dupatta Malmal Ka, Krrish etc. In the month of May 2007 parts of the film Jab We Met were shot in Manali starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. |
