The 8th Annual Miami-Dade Walk Now for Autism took place on Sunday, February 10 at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, Fla. Over 10,000 walkers enjoyed a stroll along the beach in perfect weather, raising over $460,000. Nearly 350 teams participated, a 40% increase over 2007's event.
Geoffrey the Giraffe represented Toys"R"Us, a national sponsor of Walk Now for Autism, by greeting the crowd. Telemundo TV personalities Maria Celeste and Jose Diaz Balart emceed the event and introduced Autism Speaks co-founders Bob and Suzanne Wright, who spoke about the insurance bill initiative and the upcoming Autism Speaks Week in South Florida. Also on stage to welcome the walkers were walk chairs Lola Reyes and Patricia Menendez-Cambo. Students from Gloria Floyd Elementary School and The West Lab Girl Scouts performed the National Anthem. Entertainment was provided by Gary Kazoo, who deejayed the event, and the Hip Hop Kidz Dance Troop.
The resource fair showcased twelve booths, including Nutricia (a national sponsor that distributed product samples), The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, and The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism and Alternative Approaches. Thanks to Baptist Health Systems for providing tremendous in-kind support, including a first aid tent, as well as for fielding a 200 person walk team. Additional thanks to the Miami-Dade County Commissioners for absorbing nearly $25,000 in fees, and to all the in-kind food sponsors for their contributions. More than ten other businesses, media partners and individuals who served as sponsors, helped make the event a success.
Visit the Miami-Dade walk page or go to the Walk Now for Autism site to find a walk in your area. |

Amar você
É feito uma canção que eu consegui fazer
É como um livro bom que eu acabei de ler
É tudo amar você
É dar prazer
E ter ao mesmo tempo um desfalecer
E acordar a tempo de reacender
É tudo que há de bom amar você
Horas, dias, meses, anos-luz
A te amar
Ontem, hoje, sempre

Music Sunday at the North Shore Unitarian Church, Deerfield, Illinois ... Another powerful piece sung by the choir, under the direction of Wayland Rogers, Musical Director ... "SONG FOR THE MIRA", composed by Allister MacGillivray, arranged by Stuart Calvert.
"SONG FOR THE MIRA" was written in 1973 in a Celtic style by Allister MacGillivray. Its lyrics speak of a longing for the Mira River region of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. It has become somehwat of an unofficial anthem of Canada's second smallest province, as well as a favorite of music lovers ranging from Holland to Japan.

ONE WORLD, MANY VOICES
Wayland writes the introduction as follows:
One of the most important ways of understanding a culture different form our own is to sing and play its songs, read and hear its poetry, learn to speak its language and dance to its rhythms. We hope that today's service devoted to music and poetry from around the globe does its part in helping to transcend the boundaries of language and culture to bring us to a deeper understanding of "other". Our celebration of diversity begins with two pieces from the African tradition. PROCESSION FOR PEACE is the first.

Music Sunday at the North Shore Unitarian Church, Deerfield, Illinois ... A gentle and touching piece sung by the choir, under the direction of Wayland Rogers, Musical Director ... "VEM KAN SEGLA", Swedish Folk song arranged by Wayland Rogers, Gregg Rodriguez-Baritone.
"VEM KAN SEGLA" (Who Can Sail?) is one of Sweden's favorite folk songs. Its touching sentiment of bidding farewell to a friend is a fitting benediction to this, our "Music Sunday" offerings.
"Who can sail without a wind? Who can row a boat without oars? Who can bid farewell to a friend without shedding tears? I can sail with a wind. I can row without oars. But I cannot say farewell to a friend without shedding tears."
