I've finished a hurried tour of the National Palace Museum and, I must say, it is an impressive intellectual and cultural achievement; I look forward to my return to Taiwan when I can assiduously examine this museum's exhibitions of Chinese artifacts; there is much to see. And indeed it is obvious that an educated, erudite group assembled and documented these collections as their descriptions are lucid, eloquent and full of those polysyllabic, magic words that learned scholars alone would understand.
The museum surely posits an egregious Taiwanese, one-China narrative: awkwardly absent in the museum's fastidious exhibitions is any acknowledgment of the civil war, the event owing to which the nationalist government was able to transfer such prodigious quantities of Chinese treasures to Taiwan; the narrative beguiles, leading readers to believe as though modern Taiwan were the obvious culmination of 5,000 years of continuous culture! The museum does little to discredit this notion. Nonetheless, regardless of its inevitable political tone, the museum is a Chinese gem, one of the greatest museums in the world in my opinion; and verily a must visit for tourists in Taiwan. |

All should be peace and quiet...if it weren't for the fact that at this moment all the objects and pieces in the museum have begun to wake up and are ready to start another night of adventures...

"ITRI's _Flow of Qi_ aims to display the Chinese concept of qi, which plays such an important role in Chinese culture, on a different level. ITRI has employed advanced UWB technology in this work. The viewer's breathing rate is measured in real-time, every 0.1 second. This serves as the basis of the visual element, which in conjunction with the sound of digital music influences the form of four major calligraphic treasures from the Sung Dynasty that are held in the collection of the National Palace Museum."

Taiwan marks the historic arrival of hundreds of visitors from China. Taipei has lifted restrictions on Chinese travelers arriving by ship. Here's more on the story.
STORY:
A record 790 Chinese tourists arrived on Monday in Taiwan. This is just a glimpse of what the island's flagging service sector would see if Beijing and Taipei ease political tensions and sign a broader travel agreement.
This month the cabinet passed a rule allowing Chinese tourists to come from ports outside mainland China. Monday's tourists came from a massive luxury ocean liner that set out from Hong Kong. They were greeted with red carpets leading to a fleet of sightseeing buses.
The Chinese tourists are scheduled to see major attractions in Taiwan.
[Chinese Tourist]:
"The National Palace Museum, the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, but there's no Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall anymore."
While the ocean liner may bring in economic opportunities, the trip was not smooth for everyone. Tourists on board complained about feeling discriminated on the ship.
[Chinese Tourist]:
"It was unbearable, we're yellow-skinned is that why we deserve to be yelled at by white people? I felt discriminated, it was very uncomfortable being yelled at."
The change to tourism laws came just before the Lunar New Year says a spokeswoman for the Taiwan government's Mainland Affairs Council.
The two sides have negotiated an agreement that would allow as many as 1,000 Chinese tourists a day and open direct weekend charter flights. It would be a boon to the island's flagging service sector.
Analysts estimate opening Taiwan to Chinese tourists could provide a boost for the island's relatively small international travel industry. |

國立故宮博物院與太極影音科技公司合作拍攝的3D動畫影片「國寶總動員」，運用擬人化，加上特效手法，讓文物變有趣了。其團隊包括有法國喜劇動作片「Taxi」導演Gerard Pires、美國好萊塢動畫導演Tom Sito及太極影音公司。

On my way into the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan... what do I see? A hoarde of Falun Da Fa protestors! They're spewing 'biaoyu' (slogans); such as "Falun Da Fa is good" and "oppose Human Rights abuses". The nerve of them!!! Sure... Falun Da Fa practitioners are mostly old people exercising in parks... but, but, the CCP has something real to fear! What if more people in China became healthy and started to think for themselves, because of Falun Da Fa? There would be big trouble in little Chinatown!
