Alber Elbaz credits the women, who regularly visit his boutique, as being his muses for the Fall 2008 collection. The designer also draws inspiration from his mother who recently passed away. From skirts to blouses to dresses, Elbaz shows true craftsmanship injecting many pieces with pleats. There is even a pleated fur coat! The idea of lines, both vertical and horizontal (think: bold striped dress) is a big theme. It's almost as if he made pieces from a single thread that continually wrapped around the body. The collection's color palette was muted and dark, lots of black and pale grey with shots of red and navy. Pants were not as prominent on the runway though the skinny silhouette seems to still reign supreme. |

The Chanel show kicks-off with a series of boucle suits, a look the label is famous for. Ladies-Who-Lunch will have plenty of new styles to feast on next fall from interesting combinations of blue red tweed to the classic black and gray. But when you want a break from separates dressing, Karl Lagerfeld spun-out some hip knits including tunic style black turtlenecks with exaggerated sleeves and mini dresses in grey and white. Eveningwear's main focus is on delicate chiffon styles with feminine touches like bows, thin belts and ribbon details but for tough girls there's a metallic leather shift. Lagerfeld also plays with the idea of longer lengths being worked into daytime with dusters and column skirts. There are very few pants in the collection. |

Call him Giorgio the Legionnaire.
Fashion Wire Daily has learned that Giorgio Armani is to be awarded the Legion of Honor, and no less a figure than French President Nicholas Sarkozy will pin the medal on the designer.
Sarkozy will confer the honor on Amani this summer in Paris when the Italian designer will be in town to stage the latest collection from his haute couture line, Armani Prive, on Monday, June 30.
A spokesman for Armani declined any comment, but well informed sources told FWD that Sarkozy has invited Armani to the presidential residence in the Elysees Palace to receive his recognition.
Most designers and actors - such as Valentino, Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz or thespian Jack Nicholson - are traditionally presented their ribboned Legion of Honor at a ceremony in the grand and gilded salon of the Ministry of Culture on rue de Valois, the heart of the Palais Royal, arguably the world's most beautiful apartment building.
His new wife, Italian model and singer, the former Carla Bruni Tedeschi, will join the hyper energetic president at the ceremony. Speculation will be rife about what Madame Sarkozy will wear to the ceremony. On Sarkozy's much-publicized state visit to the UK in March, Carla's wardrobe was Christian Dior.
However, Carla is not unfamiliar with Giorgio's oeuvre; she wore a silvery white evening dress by Armani when she carried the Italian flag at the opening ceremony of the XX Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
Armani will also receive the distinction just before he celebrates his 74th birthday on July 11.
Armani, a one-time student of medicine and subsequently a department store window dresser, founded his fashion house in 1974. He went on to create a label that last year scored annual sales of 1.7 billion euros, or $2.95 billion.
Arguably the world's most famous contemporary designer, Armani is famed for his minimalist silhouette, "non-color" palette and revolutionary men's fashion concepts, such as dressing guys in fabrics traditionally used by women. |

"This collection was more emotional than ever. It's all about a story, which Luca will recount, particularly on the subject of the design - the details, the cuts and the proportions. It wasn't a story of a style or of one sole encounter or a look, but it applied to all men. It was more like a story to introduce emotion and fantasy into the male wardrobe.

"What we wanted to do was to recreate the tradition of the house because Monsieur Smalto began with bespoke tailoring so we have a small committee and we're inviting journalists to come and see it like an exhibition. Men still like luxury items, luxury fabrics, but they don't want to feel confined in their clothes so I wanted to create a casual side.
We made short suit trousers and knitted waistcoats to show this relaxed style. There doesn't have to be a barrier between three piece suits and sportswear so I always try to mix them up.
At the top of the steps you can see outfits that are sort of evening wear, but also quite casual, not necessarily in black but in grey. Inside the room you can see more formal clothing, ready to be worn anywhere... to a party, on a beach or just to go shopping."

FRANCE, Paris : Ultra hip Swedish brand ACNE Jeans opens its first boutique in Paris, in the Palais Royal gardens.

The jeans label Acne has been talking for a number of years about finally opening its first boutique in Paris, in the gardens of the Palais Royale. It is an intimate location where you can discover the different world of this Swedish label created by young designer Johnny Johansson. A huge library of denim sparks your interest at the entrance of the boutique, the prêt a porter fashion for men and women with its sixties style is displayed on elegant racks. The accessories and shoes are also worth a visit. The novelty which draws people in is a children's collection, not forgetting the jeans which are to be designed by Alber Elbaz. Watch this space.

"The make offers many silhouettes and attempts to reinterpret the heritage of jeans and the heritage of the wardrobe for the men and women of today. We offer many models which are made on old machines which date back to the fifties and which have been repurchased from Japan. Many of our models are made from Japanese canvas and the majority is hand made, which explains our distinctiveness.
The make 'Acne' exists in a time where identity is rooted in ready to wear fashion but 'Acne' is genuinely a creative multi pole. It has a communication agency, a publicity agency and a weekly review which will certainly soon become a publishing house called 'Acne paper.' All of these branches work together in the same building in Stockholm, each on its own floor, but everyone knows each other, allowing them to influence each others work."
